Walther Pistols...

For me, it would be a toss up between a P5 or a P88.

Another vote for the 7.65 PP. Classic and classy. Some guns have a presence and weight beyond their functionality.

I have owned the WALTHER PP and PPK in .32ACP and the WALTHER P99AS, P99AS Compact and QA. The only one I still have is the PPK. I found that it really lived up to the reputation for reliability, accuracy and overall quality. The PP I had was a very nice gun, but was harder to shoot than the smaller PPK, because the PPK had a more ergonomic grip. The PP has a square shape at the rear of the grip, while the PPK is more rounded.
I really liked the P99AS. It was excellent at everything, but as I have gotten older, I have found that most polymer guns are TOO LIGHT for me to hold really steady. I now prefer to shoot heavier guns like the SIG 225 (original version) and BERETTA 92C.

You know I was going to say a GSP to re capture a bit of my youth when I could really shoot.

I considered a P-38/P1 because of one I bought at the Rod & Gun club at Graffenhower and had some stories attached that I traded away.

Then I remembered that my first semi auto centerfire shots were fired with a PP in .32ACP.

But once I remembered coming out of the theater with my buddies all fired up and those nights of dropping the novels on my face way later than school night bed time I decided that if there had to be but one it would be a PPk in .32ACP.......cause "Nobody does it better......."

Put me down as undecided ... I'm with the guy who can't decide between the P-5 and the P-88 ...

Former PPK and PPK/S owner, decent pistols with cachet, but much prefer the SIG P-230/232 for a .380.

Had a PPS in .40. While I liked the gun its excessive recoil prevents me from recommending it. The Walther .308 has a thumb snap sharper than many other .380's so I can not recommend it. Overall, the quality of both guns has been superior. But, if there is an ideal Walther I just haven't found it yet. My top 3 brands for a semi auto pistol would be SIG, FN, and Walther. I also do like Berettas.

Well, I can't do a lot of comparing of their models to say which one I like best, but I definitely can recommend the PPQ (mine is the M1 or classic in 9mm). I absolutely love it and there is nothing I dislike about it. In the beginning of my shooting life, I shot a 1911 and now mine is retired. Then I got an HK 45C and really liked it and still shoot it, but like the PPQ much better, all things considered. Absolutely everyone who has shot my PPQ likes it, and most like it a LOT. And that includes some pretty die-hard Glock and HK fans.

So, if I could only have one, I would be really happy with the PPQ.

For fun shooting, I'd say my Walther P 1(P 38) is truly one of my favorites, but it's far from a great gun by modern standards. Modest capacity for it's large size, single stack mag, shoots a bit low, not very concealable and mine really only likes WWB ammo, yet it's a blast. Cool features. Even fun to take apart and put back together

I have 8 Walthers and I rather like the P88 Compact.

My first P38 was a byf43, made by Mauser. While it was a bit challenged it terms of it's overall fit and finish it functioned just fine. Eventually I traded it in on a surplus P1 that Interarms use to import that also came with a spare mag and flap holster.

I'd have to go with a PPK in 7.65. I actually picked up another one not in the photo. A Stainless Interarms in .32.

My first trip to the Rod & Gun Graf was as an enlisted and it was on main post. We were living in a tent city and the Company provided a Deuce-n-a-half that ran back and forth a couple of three times one night. They would not sell to a person less than E7 without the permission slip from your CO so it was not as much fun. The thing they had that night that blew my skirts up was a Vz52 with a high gloss blue finish and in 9x19mm. I have been called a liar over this gun, but apparently Frankonia refinished and rebarreled them for the European market in the early 1970s. As there was this thing called the Iron Curtain back then, shoot the reason 380,000 of us GI were at places like Graf, the US had a "NO IMPORT" policy on all things "red." When you make $346 a month you do not spend $150 on a gun you will have to abandon in two years......though I wish I had. Actually a few folks DID buy Walther PPks knowing they would have to abandon them thanks to GCA'68 and most got the money back. Sort of Cool being stationed in Neu Ulm with Walther only being across the river in Ulm. "Buy Local" and that is how I bought my little Anshutz sporter rifle. I shot a Russian made .22 Trainer/match pistol a good bit at my German SHooting club and Frankonia sold those with a wooden range box, three magazines, a selection of barrel weights, cleaning kit and a Russian instruction book for about the same thing as a Ruger MkI in a card board box. Again I did not get one of my own as I could not import it, besides Herr Meyer let me use his stored at the club whenever I wanted to.

Walther provided the club with a GSP and wanted feed back on the gun, I gather the convertible .22LR/ .32Long WC only was new at the time. I shot it a good bit on the turning targets of the club's Olympic Rapid fire course and did quite well with it, though not well enough to think about that Olympic word. Also shot that course with an ancient High Standard in .22short but you had to work to get close to the scores one shot with modern Rapid Fire course pistol.

Walther also provided the club with an ISU 50 meter rifle I shot a lot and well enough to attract attention with. I have never heard of a Walther center fire rifle elsewhere but we had a .308 bolt action running bore rifle. Nice scope, I think it was a Steiner IIRC and the rifle swung well, but shooting running game with a center fire rather than the .22 or later the air rifle was a bit rough!

I bought my P1 at the Graf Rod &Gun after it moved off post and after I used my GI bill to get commissioned. Walked in with the cash and out with the gun, a spare mag, holster and 100 rounds of Geco FMJ. My boss said he was sure I had something the next morning as he said I had a look about me that made him sure I had access to some sort of weapon. I smiled and went about my business, though I did worry that the P-1 Mexican carried under my BDU blouse might fall down my trouser leg if I had to say do some gyrations to help out in the motor pool or some such. Eventually I found I could carry concealed in the military holster it came with thanks to my wearing Tall BDU shirts and was much more comfortable.

I have owned a PPK in .380, PPQ M1 9mm and a PPS M1 in 9mm. For carry it would be the PPS and for general all around use the PPQ.

Lately Walther is throwing 9mm guns against the wall to see what will stick, teh Creed, and PPX seems to be the least expensive 9mm handgun with a high cap mag and trigger from the PPQ, with a price below everything else thay make. The CCP seems to have bombed, the PPQ is fading for some reason, and now they released a Target version along with the full sized model. I just wish they would release more PPK's models in 380. As even though I don't carry a 380 other than a backup, I had one for 25 years, and would like another.

I only have two Walthers in my small collection, a 1st generation P99 AS .40 and a P38. I purchased the P38 because of the novelty of the gun, and, 10 to 12 years ago there was a quick flood of them on the market and they were cheap, $200 to $250 with box, cleaning kit and flap holster. Its turned out to be a really fun gun at the range. I changed the bakelite grips to some nicer wood grips. I purchased the P99 for the obvious reasons, buttery smooth A/S Double action/single action trigger with the decocker, and it also had the best ergonomics of any pistol on the market at that time. I still have both.

Used to carry a W. German PPK/S off duty, foolishly sold it. Wouldn't mind having another one.

I don't currently own anything made by Walther, but a PPK is the main one I would like to have.
