One of an entire collection of guns I want to build. Figured this would be the easiest starting point. No historical basis, really, but it's cool in its own ugly way. I ran out of time on the finish, so at some point I intend to go back and put his one through a good rust-bluing.

They don't show up too well there, but this was also my first experiment in gripmaking. Carved that set out of a piece of walnut one of my classmates was throwing out...for free trash wood I don't think it came out too bad.

Get out your hacksaw and files and get to work! Share your results here!

Okay, you asked for it. I got this old thing at the gunshow for $40, it was ugly and the cylinder rubs the forcing cone just a little but works fine. I chopped the barrel, rounded the grip, and antiqued it. It's a real bad guy gun with kill notches and everything.

I left the loading lever screw so I can make a quick detach pin to hold the mechanism and make it loadable on the move.
I have wanted one of these since I first saw them here.

After I do a couple of these and make my Remington Bulldog, I want to get an old S&W Model 10 and make a Fitz Special too.
One thing is been curious about is doing a Richards/Mason conversion on a steel frame into .45 Colt to make a backpacking pistol and hunting companion piece. I need to study them a bit more for how strong a load it'll take but I really like the idea of making a historic piece like that.

Aerodillo, I like yours, looks like a gamblers gun or pistolero's back up, with some character, something I could see carrying. The beautiful one JohnnyCremains did...I wouldn't want to shoot it, too pretty to fire. Gorgeous revolver.

Thanks. Though it's wearing a conversion cylinder, I've still got the original C&B cylinder...figure one of these days I'll take it out to do some night shooting.

I'd like to do another someday. I'm thinking an 1851 there, same Lightning-type grip, but leave the barrel longer and do a gated conversion. Another fantasy piece, I suppose, but hey...those things turn heads.

Was perusing Google images looking for a Holster for my 1851 Sheriff's 44 and came across this gun.

(Note this is not my gun.)

I might have to turn a brasser into that.

I have a brasser I wonder if I could just get a good used barrel and cut it so I could have my regular barrel plus this snubnose barrel two for one! :)

I had a similar idea. I wanted a short barrel for 1 of my 2 1860 Army Piettas. Found it was cheaper to buy a whole gun than just a spare new barrel. I bought the below 51 Sheriff's 44 from Cabela's in August on sale for $159.99 shipped.

I then realized what I really "needed" was steel frame for the Sheriff. I don't feel like messing with 2 powder flasks, yet...
So I bought this:

Now I'll have a real bastardized fantasy 51/60.

I like the engraving. It's a nice touch.

It also occurs to me that a disproportionate share of repop 1860s (at least those getting cut into pocket guns) have the provision for mounting a stock...not sure why this detail sticks out, exactly, though the idea of a blackpowder snub with a stock affixed promises a certain absurd novelty.

I believe the version Pietta sells in based on an 1860.

Side note - looks like the OP's gun did well on Gunbroker:

I second the notion put forth by Tinker about using imgur for your image hosting. Easy to set-up with downloading your photos and easy to use with no problems to report so far.

Anyone know if there is any way to edit old posts? It seems like the option disappears after a certain time. I'd love to edit my first post so there are images in the post rather than those annoying Photobucket messages.
If not I may just start a whole new Avenging Angel thread.
