Perusing YouTube, I can't find any test results on this ammo.
It's easy to find, the 85gr SilverTip is rare.
Has anybody got any data?

That is for FMJ. I am also curious how WWB JHP's stack up, since it seems no one with the equipment will test this ammo against other, more pricey ammo.
 
For 380 ACP I sorta think there is XTP - like Precision One, then there is a group of "OK" like Hydra-Shok (which I don't think WWB is in), then the next group = Really SUCKS

I'm thinking WWB hollow points really suck - but its always good to look at an actual gel test if possible...
 
I use Winchester 'WinClean' flat point FMJ for my Ruger LCP and Glock 43. I depend on expansion from a .380.

And I don't want the bad guys breathing lead smoke. That might harm them.

I am not aware of a WWB 380 jhp. There is the Winchester Defend, a 95 grain jhp at 950 fps from a 3.75 inch barrel and an SXT 95 grain at 1000 fps from the same barrel, and the 85 grain Silvertip.

I use the WWB Q4206 95 grain FN but might move to something else one of these days.

Thanks for the heads up on the XTP's from Freedom Munitions, I was actually looking at placing an order with them and picking some of these up in the process :)

Yah ?, well, I always thought the whole 12" basis was a bit absurd to begin with. If you're standing in front of somebody and you shoot them, by the time the bullet has passed 12" from the point of impact the chances are it has already exited and is headed into the backdrop. So, so what if some of the 380 rounds don't penetrate that far, it's still a 9mm & chances are it won't leave an exit wound. Besides, if you're accurate with your shot placement you really don't have much to worry about in the first place :p

IMG_0038.JPG AcademySports sells a White box 95gr JHP. 50rd box instead of silly 25rd box of Train/Defend JHP load. 50 for same price as 25 Defend. Bullet looks same but white box has brass case instead of nickel plated. They chrono ~850fps from my S&W Bodyguard. Nice large hollow point cavity. Like the 85gr Silvertip.
Walmart did too, before ObamaAmmogeddon.

A projectile that can go through a jean jacket, a shirt, a T-shirt, a bicep, another layer of T-shirt, another layer of shirt, another layer of jean jacket, another layer of jean jacket, another layer of shirt, another layer of T-shirt and still reach vital organs.

It's called a cross shot.
 
Goose Gestapo, I cannot find those rounds on Winchester's website at all. What is the product symbol? I'm not sure I've ever seen them. Very interesting.

You realize that gelatin is not a one-to-one simulation of flesh and blood, right? The 12" standard in gelatin is to get acceptable penetration in living targets. If you don't hit something important, shot placement won't help.

:confused: I almost had to laugh when I read this one!

First, WWB is — without doubt — one of the crappiest rounds that Walmart sells. Second, back in 1986 the use of Winchester Silvertips in their S&W Model 459's is one of the two principal reasons 'Why' those brave, but unfortunate, FBI Agents got themselves, literally, 'shot to smithereens'. A better bullet than the Silvertip might very well have stopped Michael Lee Platt and ended that gunfight BEFORE it had ever really begun.
 
On the above point and others related to the Miami incident this fellow has interesting things to say, imo:

More to the point, there are lots of better rounds than WWB, but that's been covered well already.

the fact that Platt had a high capacity rifle had nothing to do with it, did it?:uhoh:

Penetrated into 4th milk jug perforating back of 4th jug where a 2x8 was resting against it to arrest penetration. Slug was in bottom of 4th jug. Distance was 15'.

As can be seen, slight expansion occurred with two petals of jacket peeled back.
Better than I'd been lead to expect. Minimal acceptable expansion in my opinion. Not exactly "crappy" as some surmised. Rupture and spray from #1 jug surprised me. Screw on cap of jug was thrown 15' in the air and landed 10' away. Not quite an XTP, but at half the price, acceptable.
 
As regards the FBI shootout, iirc, they were carrying the Winchester 9mm 147gr JHP "Subsonic"(except for agent with .38spl) which chrono about the same speed as this .380 from my experience (875-925fps actual), Not the Winchester SilverTips.

I once attended a Georgia Governors 20 (I was one of...) banquet where the Senior agent in charge of the FBI detail at Miami-Dade spoke. He was accompanied by a Democrat U.S. representative running for reelection to U.S. House. He basically insulted the intelligence of the audience that included most of the firearms training staffs of the U.S. Border Patrol and FLETC. He went on a tirade about "assault" weapons, and the "excessive power" of the .223/5.56x45 and 7.62x39. I was not impressed in a favorable way, and given his attitude and lack of knowledge of things firearms and ammunition; if he is representative of the rest of the squad, it's not too surprising they got into trouble. Hubris and political correctness are the best words I can find to describe what I heard. Based on the VERY cool response he and Rep. Buddy Darden got following the speech, they immediately departed. (He WASN'T preaching to the choir!).

Here's an important tip for ya: Next time, before you jump right in and post another one of your inimitable observations, stop a moment TO ACTUALLY READ what the other guy said BEFORE you go ahead and add your two cents.
