This is just for around the home, not when travelling any distance, Basically for hanging out on your property or just at the pool? I have been carrying a PM9 for around the house the past 8 years, because it weighs very little and is reliable, and easy to hide in a pocket. But picked up a Taurus 357 and still can't get into carrying a Revolver again. Shootability wise I can shoot both accurately, it's really 5 powerful rounds vs 7 or 8 less powerful rounds
I also use a speed loader when carrying the snubby and 2 spare mags for the 9. "it weighs 16 ozs vs 24, that is really the determining factor, but if I have to let a 357 go, it will have a lot more stopping power considering decent shot placement. I carry 38+p and 5 more 357 in the speed loader..

... and don't forget easier to conceal the semi. I carried a S&W 642 for a while, but the revolver cylinder always felt like it was jabbing me. I know some people claim to carry them in the jeans pocket, but I don't buy jeans that big.

Between a 5 shot .357 or a 6 or 7 shot 9mm. I would probably go with the 9mm., in this instance a Kahr CM9. Now if it was a 5 shot .38 Special, say a S&W J frame like a Model 638, then I would say either one would serve the intended purpose perfectly.

Whatever works for the moment, IMHO. Neither is uncapable. I suppose tactically, the auto is superior in terms of reloading speed, if you're carrying a spare mag.

This is just for around the home, not when travelling any distance,
Given those parameters it would be a 4" 357 loaded with hard cast 158 gr. SWC's loaded in 38 Spl. cases to +P+ levels and it's not normally carried around at home but it's usually close at hand. Although a 9mm Glock 19 is sometimes close by in a small zip up bag that looks nothing like anything that would have a gun in it.

9mm for me. If it's good enough for the FBI, LEO's and the military, it's good enough for me.

I have several 357's but they are all too big and heavy to carry. A K frame is about as small as I want to go with a 357. That's a big revolver, even with a 2.5" barrel. Plain clothes cops used to carry those in a shoulder holster. It can be done but why would you want to?

I guess the two questions are which would shoot better at the same time being easier to carry? The 9mm carries more rounds, is more portable, not as loud, and probably more ergonomic. The revolver could be considered to be more reliable and shoots, perhaps, a slightly more potent round. I am not so well "gun endowed' that I can afford a separate piece for "...just for around the home, not when traveling any distance, Basically for hanging out on your property or just at the pool..." So, the choice would also be my EDC.

Answer: 9mm.

The only time I carry a revolver is when I am hiking out in the woods.

The 9mm would be more my speed. However, I tend to gravitate toward a pocket .380 for concealment and a full size 9mm for carry.

Generally speaking, either is acceptable to me. Specifically, I have several SP101 .357 revolvers, 2.25" and 3.1" barrels. For various reasons, my several previously-owned single-column-mag 9mm pistols have been sold, traded, or gifted, though I have my eye on eventually acquiring a Walther PPS M2.

One factor is that the OEM SP101 grip is a truly very good fit for my hand; I can get all of my skinny fingers firmly into place, and the angle is perfect. Compact Revolver Nirvana.

When the size of the revolver frame moves up a notch, K/L/GP100, I prefer a 4" barrel, or longer.

Got no use for semiauto's around where I live, so spring / summer it's either a 640 Performance Center Pro Series .357 loaded with one snake shot up and 4 Buffalo Bore Outdoorsman hard cast 158 grain SWC 38 special +P.

I carry extra reloads in two coyote nylon belt carriers with Tuff Products quick strips and moon clips filled with same load and also extra moon clips with 158 grain JSP magnums, plus a moon clip with BB 180 grain hard cast RNFP-GC magnums or the old boar bear that occasionally wanders through (in case he forgets to be neighborly), in vest pocket.

OR I rotate to a 7-shot S&W 386 Night Guard stoked with one snake shot and six 180 grain BB cast RNFP-GC magnums. Carry either gun in a OWB open top pancake on strong side, just in front of my Ontario Bushcraft knife. A loose vest covers all, as does a Duluth Trading light weight twill sport coat, if I have to make a hasty trip to town and don't want to clean up.

This caliber arrangement changes in the fall / winter months. No particular reason...just cause I wanna...Then I carry either a Charter Arms 3" Classic Bulldog loaded with 44 special BB Manstopper 200 grain cast wadcutters or a S&W short barrel model 69 Combat Magnum stoked with heavy 250 grain SWC 44 Specials or BB 250 grain cast SWC-GC magnums. Also pack these in OWB open top pancakes. The Model 69 fits same holster that the 386 Night Guard fits...got a two-for.

Dress-up-go-to-Town gun is a M&P 340 loaded with 38 special 158 grain JHP. It's really light. I only break out a 9mm Shield when going down to Atlanta, then pack four extra mags plus a car gun. But that's how I roll...

That's a question I ask often. The choice is between an SP101 and a S&W 3913 (8-round magazine). Both are in my regular carry rotation.

Personally I prefer a double stack with a greater round count when I carry (MD doesn't have shall issue so I can only carry when out of state on a UT non-res permit). However, I have several small snubs which I used to carry (usually carried the Taurus 85CH when I carried one, often the 442 in a pocket holster, sometimes both, I've never carried either of my Rossis). I also have a couple small autos (LCP, Kel Tec Pf-9, SIG P290RS). Once I got the SIG P290 I almost never carried the small snubs again. The small 9 is probably easier to shoot accurately which is more important than anything but reliability, and I'm sure your Kahr is fine on that count. I also prefer greater round count all else being equal (hence I carry double stacks now when I can carry). If I could only choose between what you have I'd go with the Kahr. Then I'd save until I could afford something like the S&W M&P Compact or Glock 26/27 for more capability while still remaining small (I assume you aren't willing to go to the bigger compact guns like a CZ PCR or Glock 19/23).
