Recently acquired a Shield 9 from fellow THR member jdmb03 for a nice price. Pistol was the no safety with night sights.

The gun was received by my FFL in the described manner is a speedy fashion.

Gave the gun a cleaning, but it was already pretty clean to begin with.

We to my local range yesterday to give it a testing. I ran 100 rounds of 9mm 115gr FMJ and a mag of hollow points. The FLJ ammo was a 50/50 mix of WWB and Wolf. No FTEs, no FTFs, all ran flawless.

As far as accuracy, the gun shot about 1" left at 5-7 yards in my hands. I did not bring my range toolbox to drift the rear sight, but the gun is definitely more than accurate enough for CCW distances. I was getting about 3-4" groups at these ranges which is good enough. I tried shooting left handed (I am a righty), limp wristed, and still could not get the gun to jam. All in all the Shield 9 is worthy of all the positive reviews it gets.

I can now feel comfortable carrying the gun.

What is a "rage toolbox" and where do I get one for those times when I am really angry? Sounds.... useful.

Just kidding I know what you meant, glad you're happy with your new blaster.

My wife has one. You do NOT want to know what's in it.

Just the way I like them. Simple!

Seriously, the M&P 9 Shield is an excellent, accurate, highly utilitarian gun. Probably the easiest to carry of anything I own.

My example of the Shield 9mm, I made two changes. A set TruGlo night sights and the Apex Duty/Carry triggering system kit. Primarily shoot it at 10-7&3Yds, draw from concealment, rapid fire sequences along with movement while firing.

I had a shield 9, but when Glock released the 43 I got rid of my shield (stupid). It turned out- at least for me- that the shield was more comfortable, recoiled less, and was easier to carry (I am nearly an exclusive Glock user). To me, the 43 fell short of my expectations. I recently got rid of the 43 and got a new shield.

I got mine recently with the whole rebate thing. Manuf date may 6, 2017. The trigger is really crisp, enough that many times I get surprised when it goes the first time while squeezing (which many times ends up with a first shot bullseye). The reset is also very pronounced and short. I've put a few boxes of 9mm through and at this point at the range I run all my mags through it once and put it away, and then move on to practicing with the pistols that are harder for me to shoot accurately.

Excellent choice. I have been carrying my shield 9mm every day for over three years now. I use 7 round flush mags in the summer and 8 round mags in cooler months. Can't believe how soft shooting and accurate it is.

Do those night sights allow for racking the slide on a belt or holster? Don't like the fact the factory three dot don't allow me to do so.

Ever since I handled one the other day, and with the prices on them lately, plus the rebate, I have been having a hard time resisting getting one.

I heartily agree. Similar to your comments, my first Shield 9 was obtained by way of a trade. It too was a well maintained pistol. The former owner’s care was evident and that Shield has operated without failure each time it is used at the range.

Since then, I have purchased two additional Shield 9 pistols and am completely satisfied and pleased with them.

The Shield is a defensive protector. It is not a recreational target pistol. As such, I have found its accuracy up to seven yards to print small lethal patterns on target. Beyond that distance, in my aging hands and sighting through diminished eyesight, my accuracy with this small pistol scatters to larger patterns at fifteen yards; nevertheless, they would be fatal if put on a living target.

My Shield 9 2014.jpg If I want to hit anything at twenty-five yards, I must switch to a full size pistol or a longer barrel revolver.

Even without the rebates, I consider the Shield to be the most excellent pistol of its size.

Despite its low price, the Shield is a solid performer. Get two (I did).

Walkalong,

The standard pressure 124g HST is what I use for carry ammo. They shoot soft and are reliable.

Same here, in 9MM anyway. My XDm OSP eats them like candy, so does my EMP, but my younger son has pretty much commandeered that one.

I got a Shield in 45, and also am EXTREMELY impressed with it. It shoots like it's a full framed gun. Shot this from 5-25 yards. 5 @ 5 yards from my back, then 5 ea @ 10, 15, 20, and 25 yards.

I really like my new 9mm shield. I very quickly determined that it's a reliable, accurate little pistol that I can trust. I can operate the slide and everything with the manual safety engaged. My only minor complaints would be that the grip is a tad longer than it really needs to be which cuts its concealability a bit compared to other compacts. Also field stripping is just a bit more involved than I would like it to be.

You must have some really small hands as opposed to my XL hands, thus I use the eight round magazine to acquire better grasping purchase area.:)

I have 1 octave + 3 key reach with my hands. I have an old gen2 glock 20 I put hogue grips on to make it fit better. Most pistols are way too small but you learn to deal with it when everything is too small. I carried a p3at for a while, talk about not fun to shoot...

Update: took it to the range today with a couple of other pistols. I shoot the shield about as well as I do my tanfoglio CZ clone. I only ever take it out to test reliability with each mag in +1 configuration, then put it away.

A couple other compact pistols I have I'm still trying to figure out their triggers and currently shoot them low (but not left). Both of them I can easily fire using my second knuckle if I want. The shield's trigger engages much earlier.

Love my Shield 9 performance center. Shoots great low recoil and accurate. But I have a new toy I pick up this Saturday Kimber K6,Im hoping to be just as pleased ,it is Christmas in July.:D:D:thumbup::thumbup:

I'm considered to be a Glock fanboy, but I sold my 43 and picked up TWO Shields on the rebate. I still love my Glocks, and the 43 was a fantastic pistol - just not for me. I couldn't get it out of the holster/get a good grip to present. Once in my hand it was great, but... For a lot of people, the 43 is THE answer to carrying a true CCW 9mm weapon - I wish I were one of them.

The Shield is everything you mentioned in your post above. For ME, it's as if someone took a G19 and a G43, put them in a blender and the Shield popped out :)

I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked my Shield 9mm. It was nice straight out of the box, didn't REALLY need an Apex Duty/Carry trigger, but that's nice too. I bought seven extra 8 rd mags, all of which function as flawlessly as the original 7 & 8 rounders. Now I see some sales of mags @ $9.95 ea, I paid about $23 ea for mine, which was still better than the $38 the LGS wanted. It's the only thing about the Shield I can complain about, S&W made a real winner! Oh, bought mine a year back, no rebate for me.
