Recoil reduction on an over and under shotgun

I have Mag na Port on a Citori. Works but makes to much noise.

Have the forcing cones opened up to modern long shape, like 4 -5 inches or more long, compared to the old style 3/4", backbore the barrel, and have the barrel ported. Magnaport is not the only option, its common in shotgun use.

Which recoil pad also makes a difference. Decelerator, Kickeez are both good pads. Theres probably others.Make sure the length is correct for you, or whoever. If cutting it makes you cringe, then accept that it may never fit well and be at its best. Have the angle of the buttpad changed to slightly undercut, it helps keep muzzle rise down on the second shot. I have mine done so the toe is about 1/8 to 1/4" in from square with the comb. Any up to date shotgun gunsmith should know all this stuff. Go visit a couple active shotgun forums also.

Inertia reducers in the stock drawbolt hole work.
(So does dead weight like lead shot or a roll of coins)

Shotgun fit, adding weight to the shotgun and a better recoil pad.

Porting works but some don't like the attendant increase in noise, including me.

I've used shotguns that had the forcing cones lengthened, before and after. I couldn't tell a difference in recoil.

In my opinion, heavier shotguns and reduced shot loads have a better effect on reducing recoil. While I was shooting skeet competitively, my 20 gauge averages were better than my 12 gauge averages with the same shotgun. I have a tube set for my competition gun.

My skeet shotgun is ported and has the forcing cones lengthened. The recoil benefit was marginal. I feel the porting helped reduced muzzle flip but there are others that do not agree with that.

With shotguns, I never felt there was a noticeable increase in noise with porting. Rifles are another matter. If I were to buy a new skeet shotgun today, I would not bother getting it ported.

I've never tried the recoil reducing devices that fit in the stock of a shotgun.

I just filled the stock bolt hole of my 870 with #8's.

The basic principal obviously doesn't reduce recoil. It effectively spreads it out over a broader area then just the recoil pad contact area.

I use the EvoShield, it works.

After a shoulder strain some 10 years ago I use it for the heavier stuff. Really tames slugs

I've used a piece of 1/2" copper pipe cut to the length of the draw bolt hole, filled about 3/4 full of shot, and capped on both ends. The shot sort of sloshes back and forth in the pipe; think of a dead-blow hammer. Such a rig will also fit in the magazine tube of a pump or autoloader, taking the place of the plug.

I remember these being big twenty or so years ago with shotgun and sufari rifles. Not sure how well they work, but some people seem to like them. https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1...mercury-recoil-reducer-standard-7-8-x-4-14-oz I had the stock on my 870 cut and the angle slightly contoured to fit me, and it helped (I did this to improve skeet, but recoil is easier to handle), though No one I know seems to find it comfortable, but I think its more of a "this isn't what im used to" kind of uncomfortable, but may be something to consider as well.

Beretta offered the Kick-Off on their now discontinued SV-10 Prevail models. Try and find one of those. They didn't sell well because of more contemporary styling than the traditional Berettas, but were very good guns.
