NYC Vacation=Lack of CCW

Reading stuff like this makes me want to scream. I was the victim of a crime in a so called gun free zone. So I'm very outspoken about our 2nd Amendment rights. Like others I refuse to go places that don't understand the words SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED.

New York and many other so called sanctuary cities protect illegals who break our immigration AND labor laws, yet they'll put us away for years for exercising our Constitutional rights with THEIR ILLEGAL LAWS.

Wosrse I'm in a state that has an election coming up that may affect my freedoms. Thankfully the carpet bagging criminal in the governor's mansion can't run again. But the junior senator who was a horrible governor and an embarrassment as a VP candidate is up for reelection, and the Dem running is as bad as him.

So sorry if I'm ranting but I'm not willing to give up my freedoms and hope others will keep their money out of places that violate our basic rights. To paraphrase the NRA saying, not only am I a member but I also vote, and I support our rights with my wallet!

No hope, certainty.
I've only missed one election in all the years I've been eligible. And it was a local primary that wound up being a landslide. So yes, I'll be voting. In fact, I'm trying to figure out how to help get the right folks elected.

Only way we cane fix things legally.

The more I think about this... "I will never go anywhere I can't carry" So no more airline travel? Drive only? Hard burden you folks put on your selves.

You need to learn more about conceal carry and gun laws.
Air travel is legal with firearms and ammo. They have to be checked, declaimed, and secured properly.

That said, given the choice I'll pass on flying if I can avoid it.

And no WE didn't put the burden on us. People like you who don't know the laws and who don't speak up and fight with us put the burden on us.

Having been trapped in a classroom that was shot up but a student and had his shotgun pointed at me, I'm not willing to be in that situation if I can avoid it. So if I'm a bit snarky, so be it. I'm not going to stop fighting for our rights until we get real sane laws not the nonsense some call sane. And by that I mean national conceal carry is a great start. Elimination of so called gun free zones would be another big victory.

At this point , there is no way I am going to purposely travel where I will be at the mercy of wolves. Great American cities, and iconic landmarks are great and all, but where is the next terrorist attack coming from? Being killed outright might be tragic enough, but watching a loved one be maimed or killed (while unarmed) would be very hard to bear.

Your talking about Horn & Hardart. I grew up on LI, and my parents would take us kids to the city on the weekend. My favorite place was the automat. My father would give us change, and we could buy anything available in those little glass window boxes with the twist of a knob!

I did not mean to come off in my first post as my wife and I being a couple of country bumpkins that have never been outside our hometown. My wife has been to NYC, she told me once was enough. We've both been to DC more than once, again no desire to go back. And I've been to Cali twice and gone from LAX down into Mexico. Certainly no desire to go back to Cali.

On air travel, I've only been on a plane 3-4 times in my life and I can say without a doubt that not flying is not an issue. One dream trip the wife and I would like to take at some point is renting an RV and driving all over the country to destinations of our choosing.

Driving is like shooting a SA revolver. It makes you slow down and enjoy things. Besides, how much of the country can you see from 30k ft?

Without being too political... why would I want to spend one penny in a political enclave that denies citizens the opportunity of self defense; while mixing into the population illegal aliens, unvetted refugees, foreign nationals, and criminals that are out wandering around after being convicted of their first half dozen or so of their last felony offenses?

How much of the country can you see from 30K feet? A whole lot. I spent a good portion of my recent cross-country flight just watching the world go by below. It is a beautiful perspective of the earth that you can't get from the ground.

The world is also a great big place and you can't get to much of it by car and most of it you can't carry a gun. My wife and I just did a 2 week motorcycle trip from Bucharest, Romania down to Istanbul, Turkey and then back up along the Black Sea. We had a fantastic time and were welcomed everywhere we went. When people asked where we were visiting from we didn't hesitate to say "from the United States" and the most common response we got was to go home and tell our friends to come for a visit. (Apparently, US tourism to the area has dropped off significantly in the past year or so) So go today while the crowds are gone and you can get rent an apartment in a 5 star resort for $70 a night!

I can also appreciate RVing across the USA. My wife and I are trying to get to all of the National Parks and to date have visited just over half of them. Most of those visits have involved camping and hiking the backcountry. It can be nice to take it slow as well. (We just spent the weekend disbursement camping in our converted van in the Oregon Coastal Range)

To the OP: Go to NYC, have fun, don't sweat the small stuff, and when you get back you will laugh that you were worried in the first place. Remember the most dangerous thing most of us do is drive cars and eat cheeseburgers.

Unless you're of native American stock on both sides, I guess when your family first arrived here they were also "foreign nationals". Even one prior conviction enhances your sentence as a "prior felony offender" in NY. Three felony convictions usually puts you away for a long time, I know it does in NY as you become a "persistent felony offender".

Everyone has their own fears, if NYC scares you, probably best to stay away I guess. In 40 years as a LEO in NYC, I only had to draw my gun once off duty, and that was way back when in the bad old days. I like to think of what's between my ears as my best weapon.
