Shot a Colt SMG 9mm today at the range. Very cool. My first full auto. I've fired M4s on burst but never a full auto. Recoil was very manageable. At 8 yards the first magazine was all over the target, but I wrapped by thumb around the handguards and really leaned into it and pulsed the trigger. Nicely accurate after that. It was such a lightweight and tiny gun, but so nice. It also didn't jamb over 150 rounds.

I'll have to say, though, while I enjoyed it greatly, I can't say it was any more fun than the Remington 870 Police with 1 oz slugs we were shooting as well. I don't understand how some guys would spend $25,000+ for such a firearm, but that is their business and of course they can be a large investment. Me? I'll stick with my black powders and normal "civilian" guns though. Anytime I feel the itch I'll just go to the range and rent one.

I never liked the ergo on the Colt 9mm. It's not bad, just never seemed to suit me.

Get Hughes repealed, the prices would be almost reasonable. Cost of ammo would be the limitation after that.

So, yeah, rental takes the edge off. Over in Fort Worth, Defender Outdoors is running a deal, "Full Auto Fridays" where rentals are half-off.
 
Three round burst is full auto.
Shot an M16K at Second Chance, long ago. Up hill at 100 plus yards. Wanted to buy a dozen.
"...full auto M14/FAL/G3..." Uncontrollable due to the weight. Our FNC2 LMG had a heavy barrel and was fired mostly from the bipod. Way better than an FAL or M-14 rifle.
Anyway, there's a gun shop in Las Vegas you can go play with MG's assorted. Suggest you leave the credit cards at home. MG's are great fun.

I used to be into full auto stuff and shot dozens of various full auto weapons (I only own one myself). The club I used to be in before I moved had full auto matches and so I knew a lot of guys who owned a lot of guns and I have been to Big Sandy and Knob Creek.

The point to all this is that out of all the full auto guns I fired, I personally like the Colt SMG the best. It was sort of my holy grail subgun. It just has more going for it than anything else in my opinion.

I will almost certainly never own one, but I put together an SBR based on the Colt SMG starting off with a Colt factory 9mm carbine and adding the 10" barrelled upper, (and tax stamp).

This kind of stuff really doesn't pull my chain at the moment and I almost never shoot the 9mm SBR, but my opinion of the Colt SMG has never changed.
 
Very cool! I'd love to go to Machine Gun Vegas or the Big Sandy. When I go out west soon, I will try both! I believe though, if I could fire any full-auto weapon out there, it would be this:



40mm Bofors? YES PLEASE!!! :D

You will be sorely disappointed in the full-auto AK. About as easy to control as the M14-armoredman's shipmate might be able to. I found 2-3 round bursts were the only way to keep it on target, and I could darn near shoot it as fast semi, and definitely more accurately.
The most fun I've shot? Tied between the M2HB, and the MP5SD3.
 
Extremely cool. I have heard the 5.45mm AK-74M is a lot more controlable vs the older AKM.

Shooting the semi auto civilian versions of each, I believe it. The 5.45 feels like a .22, but is a wicked little needle of a cartridge.

I recently finished converting a Vz.58 to full-auto and I don't have a problem controlling it. I wonder why the AK47 is that much worse to shoot. I have an 11" barrel to put on the Vz once I figure out how to press out the existing barrel. I wanted to SBR the Vz for a long time and so had a spare barrel cut down to around 11" and threaded 1/2"-28 for a custom KEYMOUNT brake with a bore sized for .30 cal. It's going to be awesome!
 
One of the most fun FA toys I'll never (probably) get to play with again was the Mk 18 40mm grenade launcher.
Bloop,bloop, bloop, bloop-great fun, really, even with inert training rounds.

CapnMac, I have to agree with you the Mk19 has got to be the most awesomeness of FA I've played with. You could see the rounds as they went downrange. I did like the MaDeuce as well. But my absolute favorite was an old Sterling we had laying around the armory in Kirkuk Air Base. That thing ran like a sewing machine. Holding center mass at 25 yards was a breeze.

Yeah it's much more sensible to spend it on a Rolex, many times that on an RV that looses value instantly as soon as it's in your name, a wedding, vacation, sex change...

Lots of people spend money on things others wouldn't, no need to understand, just do what you think feels right to you.

I have played with lots of them and my current favorite is this one.

I have had people get on me about what I spend on guns and I point out that they own a Harley, a boat, an RV, a vacation home, four wheelers, toy haulers and a big truck to pull it............................................ And they are talking about me ????
Guns are just another recreational activity. Some people think it is perfectly reasonable to spend 10 grand on a vacation. Whereas that would be wasted on me because that doesn't pull my chain.

Neat! Does it really make the "bloop bloop" noise from the movies? How loud is the actual gun? I've always wondered this!

The 40mm grenade uses an Hi-Lo pressure system to launch the grenade. There's a captive space in the base of the round that contains a majority of the powder combustion, and at high pressure. Which is then vented into the space between the cartridge spase and the base of the grenade, which is vented at relatively low pressure. But at respectable velocity.

Makes for fascinating weapon design, as the breech needs to be sturdy, but the barrel can be light, light like a mortar tube.

So, when the rounds leave the muzzle there's no real 'bang" as there's no high pressure gas meeting free oxygen at ambient temperature. Instead, it's a lot like a mortar, which a bunch of gas going "whoosh" with a "ploof"/"plop" sort of noise like pulling the end of a mailing tube. With a bit of a "thump" as the propelling charge detonates. All mixed together in a way that tries to defy simple description. Hence all the gibberish above.

Extremely cool. I'd love to fire one. I think my all time dream gun ever would be an M79 with unlimited free grenades. :)

Yes but those don't look like a giant shotgun and don't come with wood. :D

Also I have read some special ops guys still choose the M79 as its longer barrel increases range and accuracy over the M203 and I believe HK 302.
 
I'll grant you that. But, the 79 is pain to sling around as it's "pokey" in quite a number of places, all of which it will find on your person.
It's just a tad funky to shoulder, especially with the sight raised--which you want to do, until you've gone through a big box of training grenades to "eyeball" sight the thing.

Whereas, with a 203, you are halfway to getting the point down just in knowing how to operat an AR.

That being said, I always like "left handing" a 203. Basically, you pull the support hand back to the mag well and swap shoulders. If nobody was watching to chide techniques, I'd cup-n-saucer the end of the pistol grip. If operating for form's sake, right hand would go to the 203 slide, the way the manual shows.
