Moved from general discussion.
Hi I got a colt upper receiver for Christmas last year. I have an 80% lower with a colt trigger on it at the moment but I really feel I need a better lower for it. Right I found a complete colt lower for $399 and an lmt lower for $369. Which lower would be a better buy for my colt? Or should I just get a stripped $40 Anderson lower and transfer my parts over?

Are those prices for a stripped lower? You can get a Colt OEM lower on Gunbroker for $345 plus $40 shipping

The lower receiver is a parts holder, keep it under $100 with a $200 trigger and a Good LPK. Let your vanity be your guide. Unless there is a flaired magwell or your life could on its strength when you use it as a club. I paid $300 for a Alexander Arms lower, it doesn't do anything better than the lowers I get 25 miles from my house and I can watch him mill it out if I want to.

Unless there is something physically wrong with a lower, there is no performance benefit to switching. AR money is almost always best spent on trigger, barrel, BCG, optic and ammo.

This. While I would avoid any cast or 6061 lowers in general, and feel that polymer ones are appropriate only in certain circumstances and with their shortcomings well known, an in-spec forged 7075 lower is an in-spec forged 7075 lower, no matter what roll mark (if any) it bears.

Thanks for the help everyone. I’ll just go with an Anderson lower for now. And then maybe get a colt another time just so I can have a full colt rifle

When I started out asking about ARs, everyone told me, except for Hesse and 6061 lowers, that a lower is a lower, pick a logo you like and get it. That said, there are some differences in how mag wells are cut etc, but I have multiple brands of lowers and they all work. Anderson is one of them. I built two for my sons.

Too the original question, either would serve you well, but if you like the parts you have now, transferring them to a stripped lower will work too.

lol, yea, but I have had good luck with my mix and match uppers/lowers. I guess all mine are "in spec". Dunno.
