The Ruger LCR has been out for a while now. I'm interested in them because they seem to feel a little better to me than a J-frame. It's hard to beat those J-frames for summer carry, but that LCR might be a viable option for me. What are your opinions on the LCR? Thanks in advance.

I owned one. It had a very nice double action trigger, but note the reset is the very last tiny click as you let the trigger return. It was easy to short stroke it when not in practice. The hogue tamer grips really help mitigate recoil in such a light revolver. I would not want to shoot one without them. The down side is that they're tacky enough that a cover garment can get caught on them. The hogues included on the 3" models are really excellent.

I would own another one, but would choose the 3" variant.

I've had one for several years. It's the original .38 DA only model.
The DA trigger is excellent.
No corrosion worries with polymer and stainless.
Can't beat it for a small carry revolver.

Thanks. Good to know about the trigger. Also, I wonder if that tacky rubber grip can cause some printing under a T-shirt. Hmmmm

I got a chance to handle the LCR, Charter Arms 9mm PITBULL, and the Taurus 905 side by side by side.

There is no doubt that the Ruger LCR had the best DA trigger of the three guns.

I've short stroked my Charter Arms PITBULL but I've never done it with the LCR and when I practice with Snap Caps I have no recoil to deal with and I can pull the trigger a lot faster than when I'm actually firing bullets out of it.

Have a 327...it's a handful with full power loads, I imagine 357 would be most unpleasant. As mentioned the DA pull is exceptional. They are a bit larger than other DA only options like Js or Charters with boot grips.

I currently have two 327 LCRs and used to have a 38 and 9 mm. I really like them. The 327 has six rounds versus five and the recoil isn't that bad with the 327 Federal low recoil Hydra Shoks. They are quite tame with 32 H&R Magnum. They are very loud, however. I would not want to shoot 327 indoors with no ear pro.

I haven't found the grip to be a problem but you can get a bantam boot grip that is smaller and smoother if it becomes an issue. It has the same recoil absorbing pad on the backstrap but gives you less to hold onto.

I've been carrying a snubby for forty nine years. All S&W until 2011, at which time I switched to an LCR. I own three at this time.

They have better triggers and handle recoil better than the J-frames. I carry both on the belt and in the pocket. A great gun!

I carry both on the belt and in the pocket.

What kind of pocket holster are you using?

I have a Sticky pocket holster and the butt is right at the top of the pocket opening. For Levi jeans, Lee, Wrangler and Walmart brand jeans, unless I have an untucked shirt, anyone to the right of me can easily see I've got a gun in my pocket. When I drop just the revolver in my pocket, minus the holster, it sits further down in the pocket, the top of the pocket material kind of folds over and you can't see the butt of the gun, but I'm not going to carry a gun without it being in a holster. I'm thinking maybe there is a better pocket holster out there that lets the LCR sit deeper in the pocket.

A .357 LCR has been my primary carry gun for a few years now. I pocket carry it in an Uncle Mike's fabric holster. I won't say it's fun to shoot, but a good medium level .357 load such as the Remington Golden Saber is manageable and offers more oomph than a .38 Special. I'm still waiting for Ruger to make the 3-inch version in .357 Magnum.

https://mikaspocketholsters.com/ I don't use it with jeans.

Been carrying a .357 LCR for a couple years now , gives you a wide choice of ammo you can use. In my pocket in a DeSantis Nemesis Holster. It has the Crimson Trace grip. Absolutely love it and no one has ever spotted me carrying it . As a matter of fact people who know I carry often ask me if I have it on me.

The LCR .357 is my carry gun, I use 38+p for my self defense carry. I shot moderate .357 loads out of it at the range. I carry it in a maxxrange holster in my front pocket. Unless I am sitting with my leg pressed against the gun, you can't even tell I have anything in my pocket. It's the gun I keep on my nightstand.

I've had a couple of them, and I always foolishly trade them off. I'm thinking a .357 is in my future. Fantastic triggers, handle sweat and wet with no issues, and reliable as the day.

I've had a .357 LCR for 4-5 years now. I use it for pocket carry when it's either too hot for a cover garment, or I just don't feel like dealing with belt carry. I carry and shoot .38s in it, but I love it. Fantastic little pistol.

I have had my .38+P LCRx for a couple of years. It has a good DA trigger and I practice shooting DA quite often. I must confess, though, I like the visible hammer and still prefer to shoot SA. I often carry it in my jeans pocket without a holster and don't really have a problem with the hammer snagging. I prefer to shoot .38 special loads with 158 grain bullets for POA to be POI. I did add a Crimson Trace red laser grip sight to mine for low light conditions.

I started shooting the LCR9mm when it first came out. I have to say that I truly love this gun. I classify it not only as a nice self defense weapon, but as a "Fun" gun at the range. I have put quite a bit of ammo through the gun in the past two years and of course my proficiency at shooting a small 2 inch snubby has improved tremendously. But it did take a lot of practice for sure.
I like the 9mm. It has just enough recoil to make the gun pleasant to shoot, but any more would be crossing the line. The gun is extremely reliable. Yes, you will get crimp jump on some cheap range ammo, but they are very easily and quickly sorted out and good ammo that will not produce this effect is abundant. I love Fiocchi and American Eagle and PPU. I shoot Hornady Critical Duty 135 gr. for carry or Fiocchi Extrema.
I love the moon clips. Fast, easy to load. I load up about 40 clips before a range session the night before, and makes for easy loading. And they are low in cost. I buy mine from Seebeeze.
Yes I love this gun. I carry in a Mitch Rosen belt holster which brings the gun very tight toward the body. I went through a number of grips but found the "Hogue Bantam/Boot grip" to be far superior than all the others. This was a surprise to me, since it is also the smallest.
I have to agree with most every thing "Bruce from Pocket Guns and Gear" had to say about the 9mm revolver. The ballistics of the 9mm are excellent. More powerful than the 38 special and none of the high recoil of the 38 plus P or especially the 357. Which I would not attempt to shoot and I am NOT recoil sensitve
Genitron list the recoil of a 38, the Plus P and the 9mm to approx 7 lbs vs the 357 at a whopping 19. Plus more flash and noise. JMO.

I have a number of 9mm and alway's plenty of ammo.

Another way to carry camping, hiking etc. Holds three moon clips with a total of 15 rounds. Can also use Plastic Squeeze bottle.

There is a great article to read on this revolver.

The grip is comfortable and trigger pull good. With new Federal 'Micro' .38 Spl loads it would make an excellent defensive handgun.

I have had a 38 special version for a year or so and it is the one I carry most often. It's lighter than a J-frame, so it doesn't drag your pocket down as much. I normally carry it in the large lower pocket of cargo shorts (with a holster, of course). The trigger is excellent and it is accurate as any other snubby revolver I've shot.

Are those purpose-built moonclip carriers for 9mm? I have been having trouble finding some. The plastic caps on the ends of the rounds are nice too.

I have the same revolver and I totally agree with you!

I have one and I keep it mostly for my wife, when I have to go out of town. She doesn't always go with me anymore on trips. The trigger pull is not a problem for with the LCR,like it is with the J-Frames I own. I really doesn't have anything bad to say it. It's the LCR .38 SPL+P 5 shot.

I love everything about my .38 special LCR except the recoil and the aesthetics. They're not beautiful to behold but if you're using a snubby the way they were intended no one will ever know. They sting pretty good with Golden Saber 125gr +p and hotter ammunition, though your impressions will vary. I rented the slightly heavier .357 model before purchasing and decided that magnums were not ever going to be a reasonable option for me in this platform.

I have had a .38 LCR for several years now. Due to clothing restraints, pocket carry is usually my best option and the LCR was my main choice for a few years. I still like it but have moved on to an LC9s. It is slimmer, has 7+1 rounds (8+1 with the extended mag) and has a trigger that is about the best I have seen out of the box.

If you are dead set on a pocket style revolver, I would still highly recommend the LCR. Even though I don't carry mine much any more, it isn't leaving my collection.

They're nothing to look at but IMO better than the J Frame. The LCR has one of the best if not THE best double action trigger pull on the market.
