I just grabbed a used Colt Mustang Pocketlite off Gunbroker. It has some finish wear and some dings, but otherwise it’s in good shape. I was amazed how well it sits in the hand. Much better than my Smith Bodyguard. The safety is easy to use and after application of a little orange sight paint, it’s easy to pick up front sight. Can’t wait to get to the range!

Congrats on a cool gun! I saw one used a few weeks ago, and I had to say no. (Or my finances said no.) Have fun!

Looks pretty. Magazines are readily available, too. Just need to be made for the Mustang.

I have to admit I kind of miss mine; but I'm ok with happy having replaced it with a Colt Government Model .380

I missed a great buy on one of those once at a gun show, a black one. I'm sure it was well under $300, but that was long ago and my pockets were empty.

Great Scot: Great Choice!

I have had my Colt Mustang since they first came out. It's been my all-time favorite .380, well at least until the SIG P238 came out. Now they share the honors. The Mustang is slightly more ergonomic with it's rounded edges and has a better trigger. The P238 has the better sights (night sights at that). Both are very comfortable to shoot, extremely reliable, and fairly accurate for the job at hand.

Check firearmsid.com/Recalls for info on the sear spring. Seems the sear spring could be bent while the gun was being assembled/disassembled and could come loose. Colt designed a small clip which would hold it in place. I sent in for the clip and put it in; very easy fix to do. Never any problems before or after installation. The Colt Mustang has been one the nicest (and the most perfectly sized), .380s I have ever owned.

Haven't tried the P238 magazines in the Mustang but I do know that the slightly longer Colt Government .380 magazines work perfectly in the Mustang.

Good choice. Their owners all seem to love them. My hands are very large, so I got the Colt Government .380 instead. (It's pretty much the same pistol, but slightly larger.) It is an excellent pistol that I very much enjoy shooting.

Sorry! Magazines?
With the early Sig P238s, use of a Mustang magazine was hit or miss. They'd fit but sometimes you would get a failure to feed or something similar.

In the first year of production of the P238, it had several problems which many folks attempted to fix using Mustang springs and magazines. As the P238 evolved in the first year or two, Sig changed the follower several times and finally settled on a flat main spring. (Note, Kimber now offers a flat main spring for the Micro) One difference between the Mustang and P238, the P238 barrel cams down a bit farther than the Mustang changing the angle relative to the frame that cartridge feeds into the barrel.

As Sig magazines became more available, I just bought them for my P238 and kept the Mustang magazines for my mid-1980 vintage Mustang.

After Sig fixed the operation of the early P238s and mine ran flawlessly, I stopped paying attention to what the forums were saying about P238s and Mustangs.

I recently bought a Kimber Micro and have not tried mixing magazines with it. The Micro does not depart as much from the design of the Mustang as much as the P238, but I have not done a detail comparison either. The Micro works with Micro magazines.

Magazines for all three should be readily available these days and I do not think the prices vary very much. But I could be wrong, it has been a while since I bought magazines for any of these guns.

I'd just get the ones designed for your Mustang and be safe.

Colt 380 Government magazines and even a Mustang 10 round magazine work just fine in my Mustang. The only difference is the length of the magazines. I have a 10 round magazine that I used regularly in mine when I shot it regularly.

From my experience Kimber Micro, Colt Mustang and Sig P238 six round mags all work with each gun. The seven round mags do as well, but the polymer pinky extensions on Sig and Kimbers may need to be filed to properly fit. The guns are so very similar, but there are many slight differences.

I know the colt magazines do fit and work well in the 238, and cost half as much as the sig versions, for whatever reason.

Having both a Mustang and gov't .380 I have to say I like the Gov't model better. They share a common ancestry with the Star D series.

Both are great! To me the slightly smaller Mustang was what a .380 for CCW was all about. Sort of like how I like the Combat Commander compared to the full size Government Model.
