In the past couple of years of looking for bargains and project guns, i have ended up with two ugly Glock 17 frames.
One is a gen2 frame that is shortened to Glock 19 length - the frame was a LE trade and had such severe wear at the bottom that the jagged plastic edge would draw blood if you brushed against it. It is a stripped frame with no internal parts right now.
The other is a gen1 frame that has a "bubba" grip & stipple job by the prior owner. The back strap was filled with white epoxy then ground so far that the white shows (until I painted it), and it is stippled all over, and I do mean all over. This frame does have all it's internal parts, so any gen1, gen2, or gen3 slide assembly makes it a complete gun. But to quote an old friend, it is uglier than a dog's butt sewed up with a grape vine.
Therefore, neither have any "collector:" value - (hehehe; sorry, i can't say that with a straight face about a plastic pistol)
My dilemma is what to do with them. I could:
1) take them to local LE and do the process needed to destroy them and have their serial numbers so recorded.
2) shop around for inexpensive slide assemblies and a lower/grip parts kit, and eventually rebuild them. I don't really want two compromised Glock 17's though. And i surely don't need them. even for truck/boat/workshop guns.
3) try to sell them, although - in the current buyer's market - i can't imagine anyone wanting such things.
4) just put them in the in the back of the safe.
So, I am asking for other, constructive ideas and suggestions. Is there any way to fix a bad stipple job and a bad grip reduction job? I've looked at magwell extensions a little bit; are there any that would restore the shortened grip to G17 length? Other ideas?
