RMR 124 "match winner" FMJ OAL- Verify I'm safe plz (9mm)

I just received a nice box of 124g FMJ-FP "match winners" from RMR and they look awesome. I checked my hornady load manual and it called for a 1.06" oal for a FMJ FP at 124g. I tried a plunk test in my two lone wolf 40-9mm conversion barrels and had to get down to 1.062" for the dummy rds to drop in and out freely and spin without resistance. at 1.07" one barrel would hang up and not spin. 1.06" takes up a whole lot of space in that tiny case.

I plan on starting at about 4.5g and working up to 5.5g (BE-86) or so, I wanted to see how you all have been seating them. I was loading the 115g fmj at 1.135" and they shoot great, just wanted to try a heavier bullet.

1.060 (+/-) sounds about right for a 124 Gr flat point. I know some folks here are using that bullet, so they can share what OAL they use.
 
The published Hornady data is the minimum COL. In most cases you will need something longer to feed properly in your given pistol. For this bullet I use 1.110" because this is what feeds best.
 
I'm shooting the rmr 124 fp at 1.08 from my g-34 with kkm barrel. Just looked thur my targets and had good groups from my sig at 1.09 ,can't remember what it plunked at but I'm pretty sure at around -.02 from plunk on all my barrels.

I have several Lone Wolf 40-9 conversion barrels and while longer OAL works for older LW barrels that have been reamed from factory, newer 40-9 barrel with no leade requires 1.080" to drop with a "plonk" and spin freely. I am using .378" taper crimp.

After a 125 PF load so I didn't go any higher than 5gr.
Looks like 4.8 or 4.9 may do the trick for 125 PF.

Dude dog how was the recoil comparing the 5 gr load to a faster powder that's making power factor or comparing it to factory rounds?
 
5gr Slightly less recoil than factory, BE86 feels less snappy to me than HP38 at the same vel. 5gr was about 50fps faster than they need to be to make PF with wiggle room.
I like my match loads to be about 1030fps give or take.
My favorite for match loads is WSF which is about the same burn speed wise as BE86.

Looks like 4.6gr WSF with this bullet/OAL would be about right for 125 PF (5" barrel),
4.8-4.9 with a 3", apparently I didn't save the 4.9 3" barrel results---senior moment, sorry guys

Thanks for the info, I loaded up several rounds with a .2g spread and hopefully I can make it to the range this week. oaL is 1.065” and plunks fine, I will report the results
 
A few target Pics.
I was trying a new scope mount and scope shooting from a rest to see if that helped.
It did, however I discovered that my cheap plastic folding table is not up to the task of keeping the rest stable on uneven ground,
so the results are not what they could have been if I would have had better support for the rest.
Sig P226, S+B SPs, mixed range brass # of firings unknown, charges as thrown after setting measure
(I sure thought I shot 5 at the CFE-P target but I only see 4, possible 5 went through the same hole but not 100% positive, bummer 4.6 did not make 125 PF need to try 4.7, 4.8)
The bullets shoot well if I do my part.

diggin up an old thread to update chrono data and load development. very accurate load, soft recoiling and fun to shoot. the lot of BE86 I have is a hot one, i am .7 to .9 below their max charge but I am getting an average velocity that indicates I am already pretty hot.

the lot of BE86 I have is a hot one,
Ran into that myself, had sort of wondered if was just me. .....
The first BE86 I had ran hot. I was getting around 1200 with a 124gr bullet and 5" barrel with 5.3-5.4gr and looking at the MAX of 5.8 going :eek: no way am I going another .5gr to 5.8.
(Note I started well below 10% off the MAX at around 4.5 gr. on the first lot of BE86 I had, glad I did. )
The next lot was giving me closer to 1100 with 5.3 so yes 5.8gr seemed reasonable with that lot.
Maybe the first lot was on the fast side of the allowed range and the second was on the slow side.
Always a good idea to rework up MAX loads when changing lots of powder.
If I had started with the slow lot and then got the hot lot and failed to work up the results could have been bad,
or if I hadn't checked the next lot (which was slower) and needed to make PF I would have been under PF using data from the first lot.

I haven't used that much BE86.
First two lbs were the "hot" lot. If I remember correctly BE86 had not been out long when I got them.

The 3rd lb I picked up maybe a year later was "normal".
The 4th lb purchased may 6 months later seemed about the same as the 3rd.
So 3 and 4 were consistent, and since I have such a small sample I can't really say for sure how it is normally.
I sure there is an allowed tolerance in burn speed lot to lot and it could just be the one lot I had was on the edge of the tolerance allowed.
I probably should have got the lot number from the first ones and emailed Alliant to see if they had any other reports of it being hot, but hindsight is 20-20.

z7, is the lot you currently have hotter than some others you have used?

I have only had one pound of BE-86, and judging by my results in 9MM with a 124 Gr bullet, I would have to say if there was a 'hot" lot, I've got some of it. Unusual that Alliant would make such an error.

I have only tried one lot, but I am seeing hotter numbers then most it seems
I purchased an 8 lb jug after it came out based on discussion here, too a leap of faith because it was during the powder drought and I was tired of always looking for powder, it has performed great, but after I got my chrono I am getting speeds higher than expected in 40 and 9mm, if I start at 10% low and work up, I am getting near max velocity at the “starting” load in 40 and 9mm

I like the powder and my es/sd are pretty tight, especially considering mixed brass from public ranges

Some of the extra vel is because of the shot oal 1.06. I shot some loads of sport pistol today that dropped about a 100 fps. I went from a aol of 1.083 to 1.133 and I lost about a 100 fps I knew would be slower but I didn't think it drop that much but it did unless my crono is lying lol.

I think that is probably accurate, it’s amazing how such a small change in length can impact volume and pressure
 
I have done very limited load workup in 9mm using the RMR 124gr FMJFP bullet since I have been using it mostly in 357sig. This will change though since I picked up some more of them with the last 10% discount sale. My first load workup will be using PowerPistol since I like PowerPistol in 9mm.

Following was my most accurate load in in 9mm with this bullet using BE-86. The accuracy was not very good, but it is a work in progress for me. Please note that I load mine with a COL of 1.065". Testing is done @15 yards using a rest:
