What 5 Guns only forever?

I'm really surprised that most lists don't seem to have an EDC. The last gun to go would be my carry.

A carry, a discrete carry, AR in 5.56. I could get by with that. My other two would be something like a G19 that I could carry but would be a house gun. Either a shotgun or heavier rifle depending where you live.

Since I have not owned a .22 since the 90s I don't believe you need one unless you have kids around.

Only 5 firearms? That is a hard question. For me it goes like this in no particular order:

1) My Anschutz 1712, .22 LR
2) My Remington 700, .308
3) My Remington 870TC , Trap-Competition shotgun 12 ga.
4) My S&W K22 Masterpiece with 6 inch barrel, .22 LR
5) My S&W model 14 with a 6 inch barrel. I would love an older K38 Masterpiece but my model 14 is very nice.
.38 cal.

There are other firearms I would love to add to the list but this is my 5.

At 52 years of age, I could see selling my current small collection and purchasing what's on the list below to satisfy me for the next 20+ years.

1. S&W 63 in .22LR
2. Colt Cobra with 6 shot capacity in .38 Special
3. S&W 627 with 8 shot capacity in .357 Magnum
4. Marlin 1894 in .357 Magnum
5. CZ 527 Carbine in 7.62x39

I have had a lot of different guns over the years but these are the ones I pick

1) CZ P-07 with 22 conversion . I would do the P-10
but no 22 conversion out yet
2) Ruger Security Six 6”
3) S&W 638
4) Toss up between an XDS or Shield

I don’t do shotguns and almost never shoot rifles. These 4 will do everything I need

Im just going to play using guns I already own.

1. My late Grandpa's Belgian light twelve.
2. My late Grandpa's '43 1911A1
3. Contender G2 with a whole pile of barrels that I still need to buy. (cheater move)
4. Monson Mass Dan Wesson 15
5. Remington Sportsmaster model 341

Not hunting anymore. But love sporting clays!

1- Berretta 391 12ga
2- AR-15 {just because}
3- 1911 {45 of course}
4- Sig Sauer P226 9mm
5- Glock 42 CCW

There. One of the most generic lists ever.

A hunting shotgun
A 22LR plinking rifle
A high capacity magazine fed semi auto
A bolt action deer hunting rifle
A compact handgun

The boring basics:

-.223/5.56x45 AR15, probably either a Ruger or Smithy.

-9mm handgun, probably a Glock (or maybe an FN, I LOVE the way they look)

-12-gauge shotgun, probably a Mossy 590

These guns are common, easy to use, and flexible in their roles. They are generally reliable and solidly-built. I think of them as tools more than anything.

The fun guns:

FN FAL (7.62x511/.308). The FAL is my absolute favorite combat rifle, and .308 is a fantastic full-power round.

Long-slide 10mm 1911 (probably a DW Bruin). Nothing like a long-slide handgun that packs a punch while looking sharp.

12 gauge repeater. Pump or autoloader with an edge to a pump gun due to long term reliability. Upland hunting, deer hunting here in Ohio, home defense and general utility.
.45 ACP 1911. CCW and range fun.
.22 rimfire rifle. I prefer bolt guns. Squirrels, varmints, plinking. Between economy and versatility, it's a close second to a shotgun.
AR of some convenient flavor. I like carbine length. Inexpensive as far as center fire goes for ammo, serves double duty for home defense and plinking, as well as varmints and medium sized game with the right bullet choice.
.30 caliber center fire of some flavor. I like .308, would not feel slighted with a .30-06. Farther reach than anything else on my list, will take any game in the lower 48. Fun to shoot little groups at big distances, too.

My own examples are Mossberg 500, Springfield 1911, Marlin I forget the model number but it's tube magazine fed, a Spikes/BCM/Windham Frankenrifle and a Savage Model 10

I started off in the late 1960s with a goal of one good gun of each of five types:
1. sidearm handgun for hunting/plinking
2. rimfire small game hunting/plinking rifle
3. centerfire deer rifle
4. centerfire varmint rifle
5. general purpose shotgun.

Over the years my interests in self-defense and military history plus particpation in organized matches (.22 silhouette, muzzleloading, black powder cartridge, modern and vintage military) have added to my collection. Plus I hate ties so on birthday, Father's Day and Christmas, family members very often gifted me guns. So I now have more than five.

Five guns. Hmmm. Simpler could be better. Common ammo and verstility might lead me to choose from my current selection for the five types:
1. .22 Ruger Mark II pistol
2. .22 Marlin 39 Mountie leveraction rifle
3. .30-30 Marlin 336W (JM)
4. .30 M1 Carbine
5. 12ga Mossberg M1000 autoloading

Good thread. I won't talk about survival guns or any scenario or situation other than the one I'm living in right now. SHTF is something that could take a lot of different forms. Let's just say finances dictated that I could only own five guns...what would they be? I'll limit it to the existing guns I own right now.

My .22 Winchester 190 - not valuable but the first gun I owned. Bought it new at age 18, and everyone can use a .22.
My .357 Highway Patrolman - I inherited it from my dad. 1954 vintage...first year they made them. Nuf said.
One of my two 1953 K-38 Combat Masterpieces...because, IMO, no gun collection - even a small one - can be without a legendary K-38. My favorite gun to shoot of all time.
The next one is difficult, because it will mean three out of my "only five" will shoot the .38 Special cartridge. That's a lot of redundancy, but this one is NICE. 1947 Colt Official Police.
Okay, I need a centerfire rifle. It'll have to be an old '94 model Winny. Either my 1966 in .32 Special or my 1957 version in 30/30. I don't entirely believe the myth about post '64 94's. They're both nice.

Wow...no semi-auto pistols. Am I old fashioned or what? If I was allowed to sneak in a sixth it would be either my Ruger SR9c or my Taurus PT1911 or minty Hi Power.

1. A 16” off the “Might Mo”, because, well...it’s the Mighty Mo. And she’s awesome.
2. A GAU-8 Avenger off an A-10, because who doesn’t love “Brrrrrrrrrrttt”. I know Ernie does.
3. A Phalanx CIWS, because I don’t want my ship sunk.
4. A Schwerer Gustav, because it fired a 7 ton projectile almost 30 miles.
5. The EM Railgun, because 23lbs at Mach 7 and almost a 200 mile range.

I mean, go big or go home.

1. Mossberg 500 w/24" slug barrel and 28" barrel
2. Colt 6920 M-4 with an EOTECH 512 + G33 magnifier or ACOG TA-31
3. Winchester Model 70 in .308 with a decent 3-9 scope
4. SIG P-226 9mm
5. S&W 442

Should cover all my hunting needs, home/property defense, self-defense and concealed carry needs ... Or defense of my village/tribe after TEOTWAWKI ... Worst case scenario if I'm down to 5 guns, I just can't see needing anything in .22 LR ...

What? No Mini-gun? Everyone needs an M134 ...

1. Handgun in .357, preferably 3" over 4"
2. .22 rifle
3. Centerfire rifle
4. Shotgun (preferably 12 gauge)
5. ???

I am on the fence on what #5 would be for me. Realistically it would probably be a snub .38, as that has been what I have carried for many years. I could also put another centerfire rifle in a different caliber there, since #1 can do whatever a snub .38 was going to.

I love .22LR shooting, it is probably my favorite kind. So I kind of surprise myself when I say that a .22LR handgun does not quite make the cut and falls outside of the list as "nice to have". I can make a better argument for another centerfire caliber rifle there IMO. If I really need to make the shot, make my .22 a rifle please.

I actually don't shoot shotguns very much at all. That being said, the versatility is unquestionable and it retains the #4 spot on my list.

A 12 gauge pump (brand doesn't really matter)
A 22 rifle (probably a 10/22, but the brand doesn't really matter.)
A 38/357 revolver (Smith & Wesson)
A 9mm semi (Browning Hi-Power)
A 30/30 lever gun (probably a Marlin, but again, the brand doesn't matter too much.)
