Hello all.
First time here.just signed up.
need info...
I have a S&W 629 8 3/8" Classic that came from the factory with the rubber grips Hogue or Pachmayer. I can't stand the looks of the grips and they also wind up abrading my skin after 50 rounds.
They are skinny too narrow.
I have target grips on all my blued model 29s and love the way they look and feel.
My 629 has what is called the round butt.
Does anyone know where I can find original Smith wood target grips for this gun?
If no factory original grips are available where can I find a suitable substitute?
Thank you all.
Dave D.

Want some grips that look good, are comfortable and come from S&W? I have them on my MG, prod_248700000 @ $68. They are round to square conversion.

The grips that came on the gun were horrible, they were so bad that shooting .44 Spl left my hand hurting for the day. With the above grips I can shoot magnum loads and it doesn't bother me.

A search on line will turn up several sources. What you want to search on "S&W N frame round butt grips" or maybe "round to square butt grips".

Midway sells a brand called Ahrends that come in several varieties, target, with finger grooves, without finger grooves, and so forth. I think Brownell's sells those as well.

Hogue sells lots of different wood grips for S&W revolvers.

You can go to the S&W store on the company web site and see what they have. I have not looked at what wood grips are available.

These are some of the ones remember. I've been looking for new grips for my N frame round butt gun so I know there are folks out there making them. You just have to decide which one you like.

Hope this helps.

I don't understand why S&W would sell 6 or 8 inch barreled revolvers with round butts. I prefer a square butt on long barreled revolvers. Am I missing something?

Midway USA carries a number of different S&W factory grips along with Hogue stocks. Also check out Kim Ahrend's grips as I believe he offers round to square butt grips as well.

Because it's cheaper for them to manufacture just one frame, and it's easy to make grips that turn a round butt into a square butt (or at least feels like one), but not the other way around.

It saves money if they only have to make round butt guns. Of course you can do like I did and put a pair of round to square conversion grips and create a square butt gun.

The regular target grips will fit the round but frame and lock up tight. Of course you have a void in the grip that has to be filled. I used epoxy and brass as I wasn' t too concerned about looks. You could use hardwood as a filler. I'll post some pics of my hack job to give you an idea.
