124 Xtreme load data info ?

Hodgdon does not publish 9mm load data for WST
Yes, WST is great stuff, but not for top end loads, better to use for light to medium stuff and pick a different (Tad slower) powder for upper end stuff. It excels at low pressure. It can work for 125 PF, but the margin for error is small.

All great information; thanks ALOT! The WST is my fav for my .45acp LSWC. And I started using the WSF when loading 40 S&W with good results. I haven't really settled on the 9mm yet, but I'm changing bullets. Thanks for the detail, I'll be printing some of this info out. The weather is starting to get a little crappy around here, so I'll have some time to spend on the bench.

I tested a few loads this weekend with the Xtreme 9mm 124gr FP bullet and HP-38. So far I like what I see. Following is the best grouping load I tested, but I still need to do some additional loads, especially at the higher end. This load is just a light accurate load, but not making minor PF if that is what you are looking for. Testing was done from a rest with chrono at 12 yards and target at 15 yards.

Thanks, I tested some similar to yours this week;
124gr FP Xtreme - 4.2gr HP38 - 1.08 COL - and I averaged 1007fps on my Chronograph. I had to shoot low over it because of the weather conditions, and I'll be daggone if I didn't nick the back end of it a tad. It's not that bad though and still works fine.
I'm going to bump the load up a few grains this week. I haven't punched the paper yet; just getting an idea of bullet speed and pressure signs on the cases.

Yeah, I hope he meant granules (individual flakes/rods/balls of powder), not grains (unit of weight measure)!

For my next loads I will probably go 2 tenths lower and 2 tenths higher to see if I learn anything new. It is always nice to have two accurate loads, one high and one low for the same bullet/powder combination. Choices when deciding on a load is always nice to have.

Since I have never used HP39, how well does it meter?

I plunk tested the Xtreme 124 FP bullet in my guns and found that my Witness Match had the tightest chamber. It was touching the lands at a COL of 1.067, so I seated those bullets to 1.045". For all my other 9mm guns, a COL of 1.065 worked well.

FWIW, for load data, I treated these bullets like the HAP bullet. The HAP is .356 instead of .355, and is jacketed instead of plated, so I would expect a higher pressure with the HAP. I was not looking for max velocity, so I figured the HAP load data would be conservative. The only powder I tested with the Xtreme 124 FP was Longshot, and I settled on a charge of 4.5gn (0.1gn over the HAP max listed on the Hodgdon website) which gave me 986fps. A charge of 4.3gn would not lock the slide on an empty mag.

This bullet did not feed as reliably as the RN bullet in one of my guns, so I used them up and never tried them with any other powder.

At 1.045 I am not surprised. Do you have any of the X-Treme 124 Gr HPs to try the plunk test with in that Witness? Anyway, the X-Treme 124 Gr RN shoots well for me, although I felt like the 124 Gr HP had a slight edge.

No, never tried the 124 HP. I do use the 115 and 124 RN (same profile, so same COL). I generally seat the RN to 1.140-1.145", and they feed very well. My go-to bullets for 9mm. In the same Witness Match, they touch the lands at ~1.170".

I'm curious what type scope mount do you have on that Sig SP2022? I have that same gun in 9mm. I usually use my Beretta Inox 92FS with a longer barrel testing new loads. It actually has better sites on it then my Sig with the factory white dots.

Also, are you using some type computer program for you targets with the reload data typed on the target sheet?

I just use an IMI pistol scope mount and a cheap BSA 2x20 pistol scope. The mount is just moved from one pistol to another, so I normally don't zero it completely since I am just looking for grouping results. The target without the load data is actually a pdf I created. I normally just print a few of those. Once I have my loads documented in my Excel spreadsheet, I then used the printed targets as source paper, and just print my load data over the targets. It is a two step process for me. No special computer program. Attached is the target pdf I use for testing at 15 yards with the scope, and following is a picture of the mount and scope on my P229. The scope has been moved back the maximum to cut down on the overhang in the front.

You mean HP-38?

HP-38 is same as W231 and it meters quite well - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...-different-labels.797388/page-5#post-10644897

I got the above throws from Pro Auto Disk using .40 disk hole.
Thanks, FAT fingered that one.
I picked up a pound of HP-38 this afternoon. I hope the weather is good enough to try some out. I'm looking to start of at the lower end of the scale and work up from there for my SA Range officer Champion.
I have had prety good accuracy in XD 40 with Accurate #5, but had no luck in 9mm 124gr Xtreme RN. Poor at best.

Ordred the IMI mount for my P226 based on info from vaalpens.
Fairly inexpensive, attaches to the rail and seems to work pretty good.
Ordered same inexpensive BSA scope.
Not the scope I would choose if I was handgun hunting but decent and works well for testing, price is right.

Preacherjohn,
How is the LNL progresive working out for you?

different bullet but some chrono data from my Springfield "Loaded" 9mm 1911
Mixed range brass, S+B SP, OAL is short due to the profile of the MPR JHP bullet so it may not be any help to you.

Thanks Dudedog.
I have always started at or near the bottom because their intended use- informal IDPA shoot and plinkin on the weekends. I can't wait to get this thing up to par with my ability, haha. So far 4" low at 10 yrds, and a 4"+ spread.

I tried a similar mount on my XDm and it would shoot loose in less than a mag full. Where did you get that mount?

This is the one I have: https://www.amazon.com/Defense-Hand...123485&sr=8-1&keywords=imi+pistol+scope+mount

I have realized once that the mount moved forward, but I can't remember if it was on my Picatinny SP2022 or the P229 with the Sig rail. What I do now is make sure I always mount it in the front flush with the dust cover. This way I can check it after every load to make sure I don't have any movement. I only use the mount and scope for load testing, so I basically shoot 5 shots and then reload again. All my normal shooting is done using the stock sights.
