Anyone use this Forster Datum Dial?

It's a cool little tool that should work well. I just make little "buttons" to do the same thing. For those like fguffey who love datums, it would be just the ticket, and I actually did that when making one for .35 Remington.

I have the tools from Hornady and PT&G, it all works. They're nothing more than reference dimensions, and don't give actual headspace contact positions, but they are perfect for what you're describing - measuring the CHANGE in the case after a processing step, as well as consistency among bullets and cases.

The downside to the Forster version, however, compared to the Hornady tool, is the throat depth. The headspace bushing can't be used with loaded ammunition, because it's not deep enough to allow a cartridge with a seated bullet to feed into the throat.

Good point. Mine for .308 suffers from that, but I made mine for .223 long enough.
