Thoughts on .327 SP-101?

If they made an 8 shot GP100 in 327 I'd probably end up sleeping on the couch for a week.

I don't think I would go for the GP100 version. I have the SP101 in two barrel lengths and a Single Seven. I think the GP100 version will appeal to those who would like a heavier gun that allows them to enjoy full power 327 without as much recoil, not to say that a Single Seven is ever a problem, but it is single action. Personally, if I was going to carry as much as a GP100, I would want my 41 Special six shooter custom with a 3" barrel and adj sights. Using that platform for smaller than 357 Magnum doesn't compute for me. I have enough just-for-fun, range-only guns.

It would be interesting if Ruger brought back the 3" Speed Six with a 7 round cylinder and the original style wood stocks. I'd buy three of them in stainless.

I've been waiting for the 3" version for a while. To me it's an ideal carry length, I'll be getting one in January.

3 inch sp101 in 357 here. Awesome little revolver. Trigger is plenty good, especially if you get it worked on!

I have considered picking up a 327... just have not gone there yet.

I Really like 32 caliber revolvers. Got a nickeled 4” Colt Police Positive in 32 Long. It is svelte and sexy. Keeps the others in line... I reload and shoot 32 Long, 32 H&R as well as 327 Federal in my Ruger’s. Easy cartridge to reload. Cast bullets really sing in these guns. Excellent range toys.

I’ve had both Ruger models for several years now. Got the first run SP101 with adjustable rear sight and 3” barrel. I replaced the front sight with a highly visible tritium night sight. I am not a fan of the small factory grips, so I ditched them and put a set of Trausch grips on it a while ago, but recently swapped them out for a set of Pachmayr Diamond Pro grips, my goto for small frame revolvers. I had Black Hills Leather make me a pair of 6 round 32 caliber leather slides, and an OWB pancake holster for it. This revolver is heavier than I wanted for CCW though. Good shooter. I set it up to shoot the 85 grain JHP. Great nightstand / desk drawer gun.

Then, when Ruger introduced the 7 shot GP100 in 327, I had to have one of those and got a 24 round 32 caliber cartridge belt from Blocker and a Galco DAO holster that I set up for cross draw carry. I put a fire sight up front and dialed it in for the 115 grain JHP and 115 grain cast SWC. Sweet little trail gun. Fun shooter, as well. Can go all day, last long time, light recoil.

Added a new Henry 327 Carbine lever gun with wide loop lever as a trail companion to the GP100. Excellent light weight predator carbine in close timber like I have around me.

I don’t get my panties in a wad over how ya load them Henry’s. Six of one, 1/2 dozen of the other as far as I’m concerned. If I’m expecting a firefight...weeelll then, that’s why God ordered Eugene Stoner to make the AR15...just sayin’. Right now, only show in town for an out of the box shooter ready 327 carbine and that certainly trumps not having one in my book. Very slick action. Smoother than my recent JM Marlins (don’t have, don’t want any Remlins).

Next, I’ll Probably get a Ruger LCR in 327 to round out the stable for a winter coat pocket gun. Got LGS on the lookout.

The Ruger’s are excellent.

Keep in mind that you should not be messing with the spring tension on the 327 SP101 below 12 pounds or you could have misfires like I did or a need to use the softest primers only. A dreamy action is not what these guns are about.

One of my range buddy's has a SP101 in .327 Mag and loves it. I have a SP101, 2.2 inch in .357 mag, but I must admit full power loads are not fun to shoot in it. 90% of my shooting is with cast 158 grain wad cutters. The trigger has got much better after several thousand rounds and overall I like the gun. hdbiker

I have had a 3" SP101 in .327 Federal Magnum for just a little over a year and like it a lot. .32 S&W, .32 S&W Long, .32 H&R Magnum, .327 Federal Magnum, and even .32 ACP all function nicely - it is a 'something for everyone' shooting experience.

I have been shooting .327 Fed Mag reloads exclusively the past six months and it goes with me to practically every range visit with a 100 grain coated LSWC, sometimes over Trailboss and more often lately over H110. Some rubber replacement grips that keep the rear lower trigger guard from rapping my finger have made all the difference in shooting the hotter .327 Fed Mag loadings. The 100 grain bullet / H110 load is exactly what I hoped the revolver to feel like when I first bought it. For the first time in months that SP101 is not in tomorrow's Thursday range bag - have not had time to reload any H110 lately.

It is rare to nonexistent for reload resources to list H110 use with lead bullets. Much more common is 2400, Enforcer/A4100, and AA#9.

Oh my! Good catch - glad somebody is paying attention!

The H110 loads are for the 100 grain Hornady XTP bullets in my SP101 .327 Federal Magnum.

I came here to talk about this gun, glad there is already a thread going!

My friend brought his 4" sp101 327 to the range today with a bunch of different types of ammo. What a versatile fun little revolver. We had a good time shooting everything from little powderpuffs to lightning bolts. My favorite was the H&R. Call me crazy, but I think I have to have one of these guns. Think .327 is here to stay? I hope so but if not with so many calibers available Ill always have something I can shoot out of it.

I think the point of the 4" barrel, moving up from the former 3+, was to get more from the 327 Federal Magnum. I have one of the older SP101 3+ that is dedicated to 32 H&R and it seems just right. I think the 4" 327 FM, one of which I own, makes the SP101 in that cartridge more versatile. Anyone who intends to just shoot 32 H&R would do well to buy the 3".

I think there will always be ammo available for the different 32 calibers. I would think that production of 32 H&R and 327 revolvers will come and go every few years. My Charter 32 H&R has been in continuous production for a while though. The 32 H&R is an ideal cartridge for a lightweight snub in my opinion.
Getting a 32 cal revolver is a good excuse to learn to reload too. That’s how I got started.

I like the 32's shooting mostly 32 H&R rather than 32 FM, but they're both fun!

I also am lucky enough to have the now discontinued S&W 632. I have changed the laser grips since I really don't like them. These guns are great fun, and of course easy to reload.

.327 in a 4" sp101 Would be a hand hiking and beating around the woods gun. I kinda want one. Buffalo bore has some pretty impressive looking hardcast for it too.

I went to my LGS to look for one of the new Sp101s, but then I saw a used one with the windage adjustable rear sight, so I took that instead. Initial observations: First, recoil with 85 grain .327 magnum rounds isn't bad at all, but the wrong grip gets your knuckle rapped. Second, .32 Long is so mild it's almost unnoticeable. I haven't tried the H&R magnums yet, but I expect they'll be easily manageable. The gun balances well in my hand. I'll probably opt for a slightly thicker grip. at some point. So far I'm having fun!

Shot my new SP101 3" barrel chambered in 327 for the first time yesterday. Very pleased that it shoots to POA with just a slight variation between the 327's and the 32 magnums. I know that this caliber may never have a huge following but I thoroughly enjoy these rounds. Currently have 4 handguns chambered in 327, seven chambered in 32 H&R, and also the new Henry Golden Boy carbine in 327.

On the plus side, it has also forced me to get into reloading !

Just picked up my new 3" SP in .327 federal. The fit & finish is quite nice. Hope it shoots as good as it looks.

Have a 4" GP and an LCR. The GP is fantastic and a pleasure to shoot, the LCR is..unpleasant, I suppose. Not atrocious but not a range gun. I would assume the SP is somewhere in between.

Near .357 magnum performance in a J-frame size cylinder with service revolver 6 round capacity?
