I am looking for ideas or a store bought 5gal bucket seat, pack combo. I have been using my homemade one for dove hunting, turkey hunting, ice fishing, river fishing, etc.
I want one with backpack straps, but i want it to still double as a seat.
I know the make bucket accessories that have pockets. Im looking to make a pack or buy one.

Does anyone have such a thing?

I bought a $20 folding chair from Academy thinking it would work well for sitting in my popup blind. It's comfortable enough to sit and fish in, has a pocket under the seat and a seatback. I didn't account for the material being so squeaky and ended up resorting back to a plain ol 5 gal camo bucket with a folded blanket to sit on after flipping it upside down.
I have seen some padded swivel chairs that fit 5 gal buckets but I couldn't begin to remember where. Cabelas or Bass Pro perhaps? Only thing about them is they don't have shoulder straps nor pockets. I imagine you could fasten some shoulder straps onto the bucket and put a nice pouch opposite the shoulder straps, but it sounds like you want something a little more put together than that lol.

Those 'bikini chairs ' ,as my daughter in law calls them, are ok unless youre sitting in mud or sand....then theyre about useless.
They bucket is nice height for sitting, plus it hauls all your gear.
...maybe I'll design my own and make a fortune!!

I have a store bought seat/bucket that's square. No backpack straps but it would not be hard to modify, in fact I think I will now that you gave me the idea.
I'll see if I can find one like it online.

Don't forget us little people! Lol if you need somebody to bounce some ideas off of I'm all earsa

Here is the one I have. Can't find a brand name or any mark on it.
It was my Dad's and is maybe 20 years old. Should be easy to put backpack type straps on it.
Another option is the plastic pails that granular chlorine (HTH) comes in. They are taller than a 5 gal pail and the lids twist and lock on.
Public works departments of towns often have them.

Yes, i want one that doesnt reek of chlorine or pickles, or hydraulic fluid. I will be using it to deer hunt too.

Shoulder straps and barrel straps are from an old external frame pack. The barrel straps are from the sleeping bag attach points. I walked around a little bit with two 10# barbell weights in the bucket and it held together. You ought be able to find a backpack at a yard sale for $5 or so. $10 if you have to go to Goodwill.

Yes something like this! But camo, with a padded lid.

I like this thread !........... That idea has crossed my mind before. I've already got a 5 gal. bucket with one of those padded swivel seats that gets used in an Ameristep "Doghouse" blind. Love that picture of Mutinous Dougs setup with those straps. All mine needs are the straps and I'm good to go, ( or good to sit). Thanks to all for the tips & ideas. Gonna make the old bucket a lot more versatile. IMG_1033.JPG

I thought about getting out my reciprocating saw if I was really going to use something like this and make a seat out of a couple of pieces of plywood, some foam and a piece of naugahyde but I already have a 3 leged stool and a couple of spare backpacks, so I think I'm good for now.
Looking forward to further posts though...

I think a 6 gallon bucket will serve you better. That is what I have. It is taller and easier to stand up from. Kind of like the taller toilets.

Plastic milk baskets make good seats. If your up and down a lot bird hunting screw two of them together to make taller. Would be easy to put straps on.
Now you've gone and got me thinking...
2 milk crates fastened together or hinged, opened ends up or fastened together with the bottom cut out of one, with backpack straps, could hold a lot of gear. A cushion to sit on could also cushion the back while packing and I have a $4 tree stand seat cushion that would work perfect for that. I also recal that a 5 gal bucket fits inside a milk crate. (my 5 gal bucket has a Styrofoam liner. I like to keep my shot doves cool.

All of the permanent stands on my land have two milk baskets with a cheap boat seat bolted on top. A lot of singles scattered thru woods at places I like. No seat, just sit, stick legs straight out and lean back against tree.
If your up and down a lot, three might even better.

Came across an old fart one day in the woods who had made a swivel seat for his fiberglass trappers basket. Said for years he just sat on the lid. I would think one could find an old pack frame and attach the bucket to it easily.

I made one years ago from a "baby backpack" and a five gallon bucket. Used it while hunting, canoeing, etc. Garage sale pack, free bucket, cheap at twice the price. Pirated the swivel top from my Wal-Mart dove bucket.
