Ordered a used FWB 300s today, hopefully will get it by this week. Looks a bit rough on the outside, but has been worked on professionally and shoots as new. Will post some pics when it comes in. Always wanted a top tier air gun for basement shooting.

The FWB 300s was delivered last night. Here's a picture of it.

Have not done any real shooting with it yet, want to make a good pellet trap. I have fired it a few times to see how the trigger and firing behavior is.

Some things I've noticed so far- it's heavy. My bathroom scale has it clocking in at 10.2 pounds. The side lever is easy to cock, I've no way to measure this, but I've read that it is listed at 12 pounds.

This rifle has some miles on it. Looking at the serial number, appears that it was made in 1976. On the bottom of the grip cap, it shows that it was part of the Cumberland County Board of Education in Fayetteville NC. So perhaps this was used in their school's shooting sports program? Pretty cool. There's some light freckling here and there that I'll work on. The stock shows many nicks, bumps and wear- there's a lot of character going on:)

The trigger is going to take some time getting used to. It's light! It's in another realm for me. I have a Daisy 853 with a modded trigger that I thought was light, but this is beyond that. There looks to be several adjustment screws, but until I properly learn what's what, going to leave them alone for now.

The rear sight has nice positive click adjustments- not sure what make it is, but seems well made. I've read that these 300s were sold with and without sights- and that those without sights were cheaper, thusly sold more and because of that, there was a shortage of original sights. I guess there was a chinese copy of the sights that filled in the gap (and was supposed to be pretty good as well), so maybe that's what I have? No markings that I can see on the rear sight.

Can't wait to get a home range going.

This air rifle is a sleeper, all the parts are worn in and mating. Everything has settled down and it will shoot very smoothly.
Not to mention having very tight groups.

Nice acquisition. I have one and it is a lot of fun to shoot. The only negative for the application you have for it is the weight. If you're going to shoot it offhand, you should rig a rest for it so that you can set it on the rest between shots and while loading.

You can see an example in the picture below.

Your sight looks very similar to the sight on my FWB 300S. There should be a stamping on the top of the sight forward of the clamping screw.

John, thank you. I'll look into making a rest like that. I checked and double checked the rear sight and couldn't find markings of any kind.

10mtr match rifle, Very nice haven't seen one since my league days in the 80s
The way to shoot it is to prop your left elbow on to your hip, lean back and rest the fore end on finger tips, no recoil for them so wont jump about

Just looked at your picture,, That's a short stock Olympic gun C/G much further back, youll need to lean a lot more with a full stock. having said that very nice good will very well, they tend to like RWS full wad cutter or Eley Wasp pellets,,,, id go with the wad cutter

Thank you. Is the Olympic gun the model, or the short stock? Trying to find out as much about it as I can. It's very much appreciated.

Hi. No its the type, the way its built and set up, the one in the picture is prob a top of the line job built for top level comps. However a lot of the design and changes are age and cost related, the wooden stocked type you have is the 70/80 design targeted at general and informal target shooters, here in the UK they were mainly used for indoor 6mtr bell target and 10mtr paper target, but a few of the later types did start to creep into the informal arena. Like most forms of shooting the higher level you competed at the higher the price of your rifle and the higher its spec. I myself used a Walther LGR Match, state of the art in its day but was soon superseded by the Co2 guns. One guy who might be able to tell you a lot more is Chris Miles, hes a shooting adviser here in the UK, I dont have an addy for him but he does have a web site, just google Chris Miles UK,

Tom- thank you! First time I've heard of bell shooting. Lots to read now:)

It was quite big over here a few years ago, Must of the teams were clubs, pubs companys all shooting in one league or another, I shot in the Birmingham League, was the biggest in the land lol, where it all started back around 1900 . there were inter league comps too, the best of each league would shoot agains each other, teams were 8man and you fired 6 shots at 6yrds, target was a 5" steel plate with a 3/8" hole for a bull, put your slug down the hole and the bell rang. scoring was 5.1 for clean bell, 5 for a bell where you grazed the sides then 4,3,2,1. So a max score could be 30.6. were great social meets... I shot for the Birmingham league for 14 years, then age got the better of my eyes lol lol and 3 teenage daughters :eek::eek::eek::eek:

I watched a news video on bell shooting- man, that is just awesome! I like the fact that it's done at 6 meters- that's easily doable in most places. Have more reading to do on this, seems like it would be a blast for basement shooting.

you really wont need a fancy trap for that gun... a box of rags or a phone book would stop them... nice guns- I have a model 80 pistol based on that action and the newer ssp 601 NICE GUNS
I am fond of the old school fwb 124's too :) I havent really met a FWB I did not like :) Gotmyneighbor kid hooked now I think :p

You sure can, I had a range set up in my garage, me and a couple of mates practice there a few nights a week, the plunger type targets are easy to build and the bell can be made self setting. Theres nothing quite like the buzz at a big comp, some great parties after too
