Have not done any real shooting with it yet, want to make a good pellet trap. I have fired it a few times to see how the trigger and firing behavior is.
Some things I've noticed so far- it's heavy. My bathroom scale has it clocking in at 10.2 pounds. The side lever is easy to cock, I've no way to measure this, but I've read that it is listed at 12 pounds.
This rifle has some miles on it. Looking at the serial number, appears that it was made in 1976. On the bottom of the grip cap, it shows that it was part of the Cumberland County Board of Education in Fayetteville NC. So perhaps this was used in their school's shooting sports program? Pretty cool. There's some light freckling here and there that I'll work on. The stock shows many nicks, bumps and wear- there's a lot of character going on
The trigger is going to take some time getting used to. It's light! It's in another realm for me. I have a Daisy 853 with a modded trigger that I thought was light, but this is beyond that. There looks to be several adjustment screws, but until I properly learn what's what, going to leave them alone for now.
The rear sight has nice positive click adjustments- not sure what make it is, but seems well made. I've read that these 300s were sold with and without sights- and that those without sights were cheaper, thusly sold more and because of that, there was a shortage of original sights. I guess there was a chinese copy of the sights that filled in the gap (and was supposed to be pretty good as well), so maybe that's what I have? No markings that I can see on the rear sight.
