Well, that's not quite true. I just have a couple of guns that are chambered for 41 magnum. I bought the guns, not the cartridge.

If you remember a couple of weeks ago, I bought a S&W Model 58. Got the dies and the bullets and brass, and figured I was set for 41 magnum. I didn't have much real interest in the cartridge , I just like the big bore, fixed sight gun.

Then late last week, I stopped by the dealer and saw a beautiful 4", N-frame with a presentation box, in the case. Man it was pretty. I knew I shouldn't have but I asked to see it. Well, what do you know, it's a Model 57, that except for the Hogue grips is about as pretty as I've seen since I could walk in and buy a new one off the street. Sure enough the virus left the gun and got on me.

I ordered a set of target grips for it yesterday. There was a set of presentation grips in the case, but they were for a K-frame. I suspect the former owner took the original grips off and sold them or something.

The gun looks better in real life than in pictures.
 
I originally bought a 6" .41 model 57, and while it was nice, it wasn't All That. Then I found a NIB 4" 57 much like yours... If memory serves, mine is a late '70's ('79'ish) build, has the smoothest, nicest trigger in the safe. It wears Magna grips when it's resting, but the Pachmayrs go on when it's headed to the range, that's for sure. My 4" was sort of the same deal, too... someone had switched the original grips to target speedloader grips... not correct, and I don't like them, so off they came.

Oddly enough... I have a 58 headed to me as we speak. It's been on my Unobtanium list forever, and a friend is getting out of the .41 business, so I finally get to check the box off.
 
You aren't really a member of the 41 Club until you mortgage the house for a Dan Wesson 41... ;)

..or spend the kid's college money on a Marlin 1894 .41.

...or eat Ramen for 6-months straight to afford a Ruger .41...

Lol, I know that feeling. It is soooo hard to put them down.

It happened to me with a nickle plated no dash 4" M-57. I didn't have much of a chance when I saw it in the case, but I had no chance at all after I held it. I still drool a little when I get it out.
 
I doubt if I'll ever be able to tell you if one is better than the other. I suppose any of them will punch a hole in a piece of paper. :)

I took the 57 to the range and put about 50 rounds through it. Nothing hot, or even warm really. A below starting level charge of Unique, a 210 plated Berry's bullet in Starline brass, with a CCI primer. Fun to shoot, accurate (Although I freely admit I'm not a very good shot, so my targets are close), and pleasant to shoot. Trigger in both DA and SA are just great. The sights are sort of fuzzy, but that's a common fault I find with guns these days. I've been meaning to write a stern letter about it.

Now to get the 58 out next.
 
A .41 fan, here! I have an OM BlackHawk .41 that's been my favorite deer revolver. For niceness, it's my 6" no dash 57. Love those things.
