Is this an addiction? Is it bad? Can I be helped?

Okay, I stopped by the gun store today and handled a pistol that was seemingly made for my hand: The CZ 75. Okay, maybe my hand was made for this pistol, because the pistol is older than my hand. But I've got a few questions...

The 75 full size was beautiful, and I thought I had found my perfect match... until I handled the 75 compact. However, with both of these handguns, pulling the trigger resulted in the hammer coming back further than when they were cocked (single action) already. Are there aftermarket triggers that make this pull smoother/lighter without camming the hammer back further?

Is there a version of this pistol (75 compact) that has a rail but has the safety option rather than the decocker? The only one I found on the website was a decocker model. Or (horror of horrors) do I need to buy both guns?

Finally... will slides swap back and forth? I know that there are GLOCK people out there who like this feature, swapping out uppers. Can I do it with the CZs, or is there extensive (and expensive) fitting required? (question because I want a compact gun for carry, ideally a compact frame with a rail, but would like to swap to full length slides/barrels for competition). I have hope because it is supposed to be easy to get a .22 conversion that works pretty much across the board. I'm hoping that other slides will fit too.

I promise... this will be my last pistol. Maybe.

Google CZ 99021 and 99041 and see if that is what you are looking for.

There has only been a limited supply if these models imported, so, if one of these are what you are looking for, don't put it off too long.

The CZ 75 design by its nature cams. Some guns will cam more than others. Going with parts like what CGW, Cajun Gun Works, offers is worth a look. They will produce a much cleaner pull in both DA and SA. I know it is still caming but I do not notice it on my CGW 75B. CGW makes a great CZ into an amazin CZ.

IIRC you can swap slides between different size pistols. The exception is the Omega trigger models.

The 99041s were just brought in. Some dealers sold them off at dirt cheap prices, $549, before they realized they were selling 1 of 50 guns in this configuration. The 99041 have a P01 marked slide on a P01 style all steel frame with a rail. I picked one up from CGWs and they are dropping a Pro Package into it for me. Should be done in 8 weeks. These have manual safety no decocker. They are the same as the older 99021 but they have a different rollmark. CZ is king of the Frankengun. They have made tons of limited run production guns with different combinations of parts from different models. e price has shot up on these. Most are selling for over $600 now before any custom work.

My brother has an older CZ 75 (back when they first came out), and while I liked the overall design it was a bit of a reach to the trigger. Finally found a P01 that fit my hand perfectly (much like the feel of my favorite Hi-Power), and have been enjoying it's more compact size and ergonomics. Works great in both the home defense role and for concealed carry and you can use the Kadet .22 conversion kit with it.

Most DA/SA hammer-fired stock production pistols will cam the hammer back somewhat before it releases when shooting in SA mode. This is actually a safety feature to reduce the likelihood of the hammer stepping off the sear. In some pistols, the backward motion of the hammer will be visible. In others, it may only be appreciated by holding one's thumb against the back of the hammer as the pistol is dry-fired in SA.

The extent to which the hammer cams back is primarily determined by the angle of the engagement surfaces of the sear and hammer. I must admit, that I don't know that much about the action and internals of the CZ, but I suspect that eliminating the extent to which the hammer cams back would require the engagement surfaces to be adjusted to a more neutral angle by a knowledgeable gunsmith, i.e, a trigger job. Or possibly swapping the sear and hammer with aftermarket parts, if available.

A lot of DA/SA pistols are somewhat over-sprung when it comes to the hammer spring so as to reduce the likelihood of light primer strikes. Again, I am not that familiar with the CZ line, but all of my SIG and Beretta DA/SA pistols have reduced power hammer springs. You might find that you can significantly reduce the trigger pull weight with a simple hammer (mainspring) swap and still have reliable ignition. The effect of a reduced power mainspring will be most pronounced during the DA pull, but because the SA pull cams the hammer back, a reduced power spring will also reduce the SA pull weight some.

I bought my first CZ75 last Christmas and love it. I am an old 1911 shooter so prefer a nice crisp trigger. Didn't take me long to get used to the CZ trigger and I shoot it very well.
Good luck with your decision. Look forward to hearing what you decide on.

I love my cz p01. Buy the cz and don't look back. Cajun gun works specializes is CZ's and offers different tune jobs if you don't want to do it yourself.

They are very reputable and are a sponsor of on of the cz forums. I have a set of their night sights for my p01 and love them.

Edit to add: not really sure if you can swap slides out on these. However I don't think you would need to. Unless you're shooting straight bullseye ,rather than idpa or something . Even though it's a compact it shoots as well as a full size gun for me .

To answer your first three questions:
Yes.
Depends upon your budget.
If you could be helped, would you want to be?

I just got my first CZ, a VZOR 70 a few weeks ago. I have also been looking over a
CZ75 for many years.

Yes, CZs are an addiction. Oh yes, it's very bad... and the only way to help it is to feed it.

Full size CZ-75s come in any flavor you want. Most are DA/SA, but there are indeed SA only and DAO models.

They did indeed make some railed compacts with the safety instead of the decocker. They are harder to find, but they are out there. Honestly, you can find a CZ in almost any configuration you can dream up. They've made lots of small batches of oddball configurations over the years.

You can indeed. This is one of the first things I do to all my CZs.

The Brian Enos forum has a pretty good sub on CZ technical stuff. Heavily populated by USPSA gamers who are very into tweaking their guns. If you're interested in learning about the way the guts of these things work and the changes that are frequently made to them, it may be worth checking out: http://forums.brianenos.com/forum/200-cz/

Okay, I'm thinking I want a P-01 with a safety instead of decocker. I feel like I need to feed my addiction, but where can I get one?

A 99041 would be ideal, but I don't mind an aluminum frame, I just want the safety! Or... probably the best option yet... Can I switch from a decocker on a standard P-01 to a safety with (legitimate, reliable) aftermarket parts? If that's the case, and it ends up being cheaper than a 99041, I'd just do that. Or... I might just go for the CZ-75 compact (no rail) for carry etc. and get a full size with a rail for competition, range, etc...

I buy every gun I can. Only trouble is I'm retired and don't have a boatload of money .Limited income.:(

Okay, I can get a -75 compact for $460-475. The cheapest 99041 is $650 before tax, by the time I pay for shipping and a $25 transfer fee....

Anyone ever used one of these?

https://ramlite.com/products/cz-magnetic-weaver-rail

Are they any good? All of my seeking is about a compact with a rail that is SA for the first shot. The only thing I'm going to use a rail for is a flashlight. No lasers for me. If these things work and stay stuck on the gun, I think my mind is made up! I'd even be happy with a drill/tap rail, so if you have used one... I'd really rather not fabricate my own, but I hadn't even thought of drilling a hole in the dust cover to mount a rail. Yes, it will look clunky. But if it works, I will take it off when I care if it looks clunky.

Skip the add on rail. Use a handheld flashlight.

Already considered that route. For CCW I'm fine with that. Let's just say I have a flashlight more often than a gun! However, I want the option for the HD/competition role.

Has anyone used the add-on rail? Does it work, or does it flop all over the place?

Did all the surplus CZ-75s dry up already? I'm not LE or enlisted... so I think a discount via "used" is my best bet.

Oh, and back to the trigger camming the hammer back after already cocked...

My Sarsilmaz K2 .45 does not cam the hammer further back any noticeable amount. I believe that the K2 is a copy of the CZ internally as well as externally, which gives me hope for the CZ. Is my hope unfounded? I've never used a drop in trigger upgrade for a CZ because I've never had a real CZ. What's it like?

Anyone want to sell me a used CZ? ;)

Only compact CZ pistol I know that you can switch from standard safety to decocker and back is the P-07.

b6kDXbm.jpg

The newest P-07s have a lot of rave reviews. The other ones, like everyone says, are unicorns. You can also search for the P-02, a rare version with the P-07 swappable decocker/safety.
Welcome to the addiction - there is no cure and no need for one.

BOOO!!!! Down with the plastic!
Joking, kinda. I have plastic already, but if I wanted another GLOCK I'd get it from S&W not CZ. Or maybe Ruger. (although it does at least have a hammer...)

Just went to the LGS, they didn't have any CZs (more of a pawn shop than a real gun shop); but they did have a full size Tanfoglio with a decocker. Feels good, but... again, not interested in a decocker...

Are the Tanfoglios as good as the CZs? Did or does Tanfoglio make something like I'm looking for?
