suppressed 1911-380?

Has anyone seen one? I'm really wanting to buy the browning 1911-380 if it would be a good candidate for a suppressor. I think it would be perfect for a small B tube form 1 suppressor.

Any advice on these or if anyone has seen one speak up.

Just out of curiosity, why do you think it is a good candidate (other than being a .380)?

I haven't seen any tall sights for it, and I haven't seen any threaded barrels for it.

It seems to be a nice gun. I haven't put more than 50 shots through it, but no failures yet... fingers crossed (figuratively, it's hard to shoot with crossed fingers...). Feels good in the hand, etc.
 
From what I understand it is not blowback operated and it is a fixed barrel. Both of those are better for adding a suppressor.

But i have been wrong before, and that's why i'm asking for any advice on this. I'm very new to suppressors and i've never shot one of these 1911-380's..

Okay, not a straight blowback. Correct. However, it is a tilting barrel, so it isn't fixed. From looking at it, it really is more of a Hi-power than a 1911 as far as the linkless barrel/tilting locking etc. It just has a bushing to retain the recoil system and barrel. Of course the lower has 1911 features, but that is pretty much irrelevant as far as sticking something on the end.

Take a look at the Walther gas delayed blowback thing they have going for 'em. It would seem to me that that would be a better host for suppression, as increased gas pressure will increase the strength of the "delay".
 
.380 is a fun round to suppress and it works well with microsuppressors. I have a Poseidon on a .380 Makarov and the ammo is generally subsonic, has less gas volume, and the life of wipes is significantly increased.

Tall sights aren't really needed. Talk to someone like tornado tech about extending/threading the barrel.

With a tilting barrel action you will need either a very light suppressor (like the TM Poseidon/ Degroat Nano) or a neilson/booster in order to get the gun to run well. Still expect to play with spring rate and possibly have premature parts failure. I know my Makarov is blowback using a wiped can,so it's not an apples to apples comparison, but slide velocity is significantly increased Even with the strongest sprigs I can find which will probably mean more wear on internals.

The walther gas delayed blowback is similar in design to the P7's gas delayed blowback. I haven't had the heart to thread my P7, but I have heard that they have a lot of port pop, so keep that in mind if looking at that action.
 
Make sure your 1911-380 runs, preferably before you buy it. I've only seen two and both had to go back to Browning because they choked every magazine.

HA! better than every magazine here! It hasn't choked even once in my EXTENSIVE testing of my model! "Extensive" meaning... less than one box of ammo.... but still better than every mag!

Have you tried adding some weight to the slide on the Makarov? If F=MA, then increasing the M will result in increasing the F holding the breech closed... right?
Don't know how you would add weight short of drilling/tapping/welding, but thought I should ask to see if it has been done.

I haven't really looked into adding weight to the slide. It would help delay opening slightly but wouldnt it also increase wear on the gun because it would have more momentum when it bottomed out at the end of its travel? (Not sure if that makes sense...) it would probably take a good bit of weight too.

It was a while ago, but I do remember hearing of some gun designers doing concept work on a bolt design for a SMG where they wound up putting a huge bolt on a Makarov. It was the prototype 1130. Ugly gun, even by Russian standards!

Back to my gun...
I have heard of machining a slight ring inside the chamber to make the case stick a little bit more and delay extraction that way, but I haven't really tried to find a smith to do the work. Part of me wants to optimize the gun for the suppressor, but another part of me doesn't want to pour a whole bunch of money into a solution that might not work. That and it's a pain to get that barrel out :D

Correct, except that by increasing your mass, you are also slowing it down (which is what we were after anyway), which effectively increases your acceleration due to your recoil spring/hammer spring, (and friction, incidentally) because you are giving them more time to exert their forces. Plus, your hand will move under the gun more, again absorbing more energy.

I think. It has been a while since my physics credits... I had another formula in mind, but I forgot where it went...
