Walmart joins the age limit idiocy

Yea saw that. They stopped selling ARs to be PC awhile ago. So this doesn’t surprise me.

I don't see such a lawsuit gaining traction. Race discrimination? Yes. Discrimination against 18-20 year olds? No.

Except for those that could and had previously purchase firearms and ammunition and are now banned through no fault, without having committed any crime, for no other reason than being of a certain age. This whole thing is stupid. If I was 18 I’d be taking out loans if I had to, to buy every gun I could.

Wal Mart will disenfranchise 17 to 20 million potential customers . That is not going to be good for their sporting goods departments bottom line.

Can't remember the last time I was in a Walmart. The only one I go in is in my old hometown because it is the only game in town. Where I live now, there are a lot of options. We even have a 325,000 sf Scheels coming.

I think Walmarts policy as 18 for shotgun/rifle and 21 for handgun has been around a long time. They would have been sued a long time ago.

Walmart can do just about whatever they want and they will still make gobs of money.

You're late to the party if you're just now going to start boycotting them, and it still won't matter.

I frequently buy ammo from them and will continue to do so. By far the cheapest 9mm, 45acp and 308 I can get.

Unfortunately Wal-Mart could forego the sporting goods business portfolio they have and probably not skip a beat. If your intent is to boycott Wal-Mart, because of their policies, you must boycott them completely IMHO.

This is why we shouldn't spend our gun/ammo money at places like Walmart.

Not by a long shot. Besides, most of these kids will end up getting their rifles or shotguns anyway just as gifts from Mom&Dad vs buying them.

Sometimes it’s hard to get the things you need without going to Wal-Mart. But in the last few years I’ve been finding ways to avoid Wal-Mart. I buy my ammo on line now and don’t have a hard time finding it cheaper. I don’t mind spending just a little more at my LGS because I know the money I spend there stays in my hometown.
There is a local supermarket right around the corner that finds my truck in there parking lot more often. And their meat is of better quality.
The pharmacy down the road is family owned and very friendly. When I walk up to the counter they already have my meds in hand and ready to check me out.
Come to think of it, I’m enjoying finding other places to shop other then Wal-Mart.

Same here. I was just lamenting this week about the quality of products. At this point, AFAIK, Wal-Mart has simply made a policy change, in contrast to Dick's. So, I personally am not boycotting (for now), but I will be avoiding their sporting goods section, and will be utilizing alternatives for most other products.

News to me, and I work there. I'll believe it when I see the policy. I'll have to look for it tomorrow at work. I still plan on buying some of my ammo there, I get 10% off on it, though I reload as much or more than I buy there.

I like the idea that more people will then go to a LGS owned by someone local.

Possibly for transfers, but I suspect he majority of the dollars not spent at these stores are going to now be spent online.

There is nothing that I buy that can be only found at Wally World, especially firearm related products.

Ever since Sam Walton died, the kids have been ruining Sam's legacy.

I meet Sam Walton back in 1987 at the Wal-Mart in my hometown. We spent about 20 minuets shooting the bull. He was a hunter and loved the outdoors. Back in the day Sam Walton was part of every store. There’s not much, if any, left in any of the stores today.
Yes you are right I can buy everything somewhere else, and a good bit of my shopping is done at local stores if their prices aren’t that much higher. Now, for my hunting and shooting needs, I do go elsewhere and have for some time.

When I was a kid, the legal age to buy .22 ammo from the hardware store was 16. I used to simply ask my cousin or uncle to buy what I needed...

I don’t see what the Walmart policy will change in the real world...

Wal Mart is interested in making money with the least amount of problems. Wal Mart quit selling guns and ammo in many stores in states with oppressive gun laws. Too much paperwork and too many chances to screw up or get bad press.

Many newer Wal Marts don't sell cigarettes for the same reason.

3 of the 4 Walmarts in my area don't even sell guns. I live in a very gun friendly area. All sell ammo if you can find someone in sporting goods to get it for you. One time they had 9mm on sale at a really good price. I asked someone from another department if they would get someone to come to the sporting goods counter. I waited 15 min. then gave up and left. I'm 65 so the age thing doesn't effect me. I found way's to get gun's and ammo when I was a kid and I didn't even have any money!

I've never seen a Walmart in Ct. that sells firearms but some sell ammo. I tried to order .177 pellet gun from them on line (single shot, bolt action multi pump handgun) a couple of days ago and was informed they could not ship to my zip code and I could not pick up due to state restrictions. Today I'm unable to view pages(air gun category) from their website I viewed yesterday. The local news today said Walmart is going to discontinue selling toys and air guns that look like "real" guns. I guess they could paint them orange and hope nobody paints them black again.Maybe they'll get out of gun business altogether in Ct.and have a clearance sale. They're between a rock and a hard place in this state.
