Democrats want no guns at all, but lack the courage to say so

I say we give it to them, no guns within 1000 feet of a Democrat home, office or headquarters, just like the gun free school zones that seem to be so effective.

Except make it even safer and drop the “unauthorized” part and disarm everyone for a super safe environment.

Well...... I find that while I still care about some misguided folks, when it comes to politics, I don't want any Democrats at all.

I couldn't tell for sure which direction the author was leaning. I consider that to be a good thing. I consider it responsible journalism. So, the point is, either ban all guns, and leave the law-abiding citizens defenseless, while giving the government the onus to enforce it; or ban none, because feature bans will not have a noticeable impact on gun violence.

I also liked how the Pro2A camp is shown to have courage and facts, though, again, I couldn't tell if the author was being facetious. Regardless, a fence-sitter reading this might have to pause and consider the facts.

That sounds like chicago mentality.
The home of the strictest gun laws perhaps in the nation.
The home of the highest crime level in the nation.
Home of the most corrupt politicians in the nation.
Home of the highest poverty in the nation.

...All this while draining the rest of thr state of its liberty and money.

Is it any surprise that chicago has been led by Democrats for generations?

One of the faculty at the college I was teaching at was on the other side of the building when my classroom was shot up. Because she was on of the far left bleeding hearts she was able to spew her anti-gun agenda and got a year off with pay to go fight the Second Amendment and the Constitution.

Before she went off on her crusade she tried to recruit me to join her effort. At first she was feeling me out to see where I stood. When I explained that no laws could have stopped the shooting, she then said that her real goal was to eliminate the 2nd Amendment and the Constitution. At the time, I wasn't in any shape to understand what she was doing nor able to fight it.

What it taught me and what we're seeing is that the far left will do and say anything to get their way.

Look at Baltimore as well. Baltimore school district is busing kids to shill for gun restrictions, while ironically, the state of Maryland has just about the entire leftist gun control wish list already. Oh, and Baltimore also has the second highest per capita murder rate in the nation. TWICE that of Chicago.

Oh STOP IT

you know those PESKY FACTS just get in the way of their rhetoric

Interesting article, I saw a Democratic representative from Ohio, explaining how they won the race in Pennsylvania with a candidate who wasn't on board with the standard positions. The commentator ask if the Democrats would accept progun candidates in the party. Said representative fell apart in his answer and started to say that they need candidates who would reach out to hunters but will be in line with AWBs, etc. Same old 'sportsmen' line. Unfortunately, lot of supposed progun politicans use the same talking point! I'm a hunter, blah, blah.

Research shows that the current energy in the gun markets is self-defense.

Tim Kaine uses that LIE, that he's pro 2nd Amendment but then he goes on and on an on with how anyone who has more than one gun is crazy, etc etc etc.

Last figures I saw were that 1 in 6 gun owners were hunters. I suppose some of the balance are purely recreational but self defense seems to be where the energy is, as you say.

People, regardless of their party, have different feelings and thoughts about complex issues.

Some people feel one way and others feel other ways. There is no simple formula to say "All republicans want X" or "All Democrats want Y."

The issue is not black and white and neither are people's attitudes.

The antis lied about it for decades because they knew if they told the truth they would get nowhere, but in the last couple of decades they have have let it slip a few times as they thought they had enough traction to actually tell the truth and still get what they want.

Baloney.

Some people who are registered Democrats probably would like to get rid of all guns entirely, but the views of Democrats on any issue is so diverse that any time you say something like "[All] Democrats want..." you are almost certainly wrong.
Agreed, it's the antis our fight is with. A lot of them just happen to be Democrats, but many are Republicans as well. There are more issues out there than guns.

Again, our fight is with the antis.

Exactly, the Anti 2A folks have a strong element in the party, but it isn't universal. The divisions within both political parties are real and something we need to work to use to protect the 2A.

It’s true when generalizing about any large group, the generalization isn’t totally accurate.

If we look at the vast majority of the Democratic leadership, and a large number of Democrats in office, we’ll be right more often than not saying they’re anti gun and Anti 2nd Amendment. Now there are exceptions to the rule, and there are members of the GOP who will join them, so we really have to look at not only what the politicians are saying but how they vote and who they take money from.

We also need to look at committee assignments.

Personally I say we trust NONE until the6 show that trust is earned.

It's so ironic that those who speak the loudest on the banning of guns all have armed security details; and it would be a safe bet that they won't give up their armed security.

Geraldo Rivera is a very loud advocate of disarming us, yet his body guard was arrested in Maryland for not having a Maryland permit (which is virtually impossible to get if your not from the “No Longer” Free State.

Of course I couldn’t find an article saying what his sentence was as it’s just like others said. After the initial news the media moves on to the next story.

The 2016 presidential election demonstrated that the Democrats need to take a different approach in order to win the general election. The current leadership's extreme left agenda is simply not popular. The current intra party struggle is based on the common knowledge that Democrats need to have a real economic policy and to not attack the 2A. Bill Clinton learned in the 1994 midterm elections that there are consequences to picking a fight with the NRA. Overhauling the Democratic leadership to be pro gun should be a priority.

The negative association with one of the two major political parties is understandable, given the fact that for several years the nation's most strident and dedicated gun control advocates include the likes "Chuck" Schumer and Dianne Feinstein.

The zealousness of those two has certainly tarnished the reputation and the image of the many.

I think the author did a good job of calling out the Democrats on their anti 2A stance. I read the article a couple of times and due to the basically anti 2A language, I believe that's where the author stands. Of course, that could just be the result of the language that predominates the "debate" today.

FWIW, I've met more voting Democrats that aren't afraid to admit that firearms should be banned.
