just joined the forum , looking for R51 owners to chat with ,I live in the Central east coast of florida, is there any r51 owners in florida, I bought my r51 this Feb 2018 put over 1000 rounds threw her and just order my 2nd a gray smoked , so the r51 has work great no problems I use only new ammo , I have seen post and videos on the r51 but that was the recalled guns ,,,,,,,I HAVE A R51 GEN2 ,,,,, if u have a r51 hit me up , if not go buy one, and after fireing it hit me up , that's all for now , and I say most people never shot one so how do they know ,

mine is also pretty flawless and the best looking pistol I own.
 
Ah yes.... I remember what it was like to be in love with my gun, the feel of it in my hand, the awe-inspiring beauty of it when it is cleaned and oiled. The irresistible urge to shout from the rooftops "This is the best gun in the world !!!"
 
I had an early gun that was replaced by version 2.0. The early one was poorly machined on the inside, and was likely short chambered as I believe most were. The new one is much nicer all over and works fine.
Remington bungled the introduction, for sure. I've heard some 2.0 guns have problems... and I wonder if this may have something to do with why my local Academy Sports no longer has any .... but otoh many also seem pleased with the 2.0 version.
A lot of people who've kept track of the history of this gun are still --forgive me -- gun shy about it. I can't say I blame them.
 
Looking for one of these. I followed the less that stellar release issues. I just want the little thing. But.... I want a used 2.0 that is proven reliable but not abused. Maybe I'll find one that just isn't the owners cup of tea.......
 
I recently found a used R51 on Gunbroker (seller was a gun range) at a good price. I’ve only had one range trip with it so far and not a lot of rounds. On that range trip with a friend (he wanted to try a few different polymer semiautos) we had a:
Glock 26,
S&W Shield 9mm,
S&W M&P 9mm full size,
Walther CCP (another handgun I was test firing)

I say that as background to say this about the R51. WHAT A SWEET TRIGGER!!! Among all the very good modern, striker fired handguns there (and those are fine handguns), it was the nearest to a true, crisp, single action trigger. I look forward to shooting it a bunch more.

(Oops. My bad, & my stupidity. Hammer fired, not striker. I should have known that; it’s the same design as my model 51 that I have field stripped!)

It should feel like a single action since the R51 is a single-action hammer fired handgun.
 
If you couldn't tell that it was a single action hammer fired gun, well that does not bode well for the trigger
 
Love shooting my R51 as well. Has never had any of the problems exhibited by others. It has shot great with a very consistent smooth trigger since I got it, oh, 2 years ago I guess? My favorite 9mm for sure.

Ive got so many nice metal framed 9mms, though, the 51 just doesn't excite me much. Might pick one up at the pawnshop if I find one dirt cheap- the "elastomeric" extractor button doesn't sound like a good idea for longetivity on these things though. o_O
 
I am glad that someone has gotten a good R51 gen 2. I bought a smoke R51 gen 2 and had problems from the beginning. if you fully loaded the magazines you could not chamber a round. The slide would stop about half way back. If you locked the slide back and inserted the magazine it would feed the first round fine. If you only loaded 6, you could rack the round into the chamber just fine. It also wouldn’t feed most hollow points. The only hollow points that I found that would work even part of the time were xtp 115 grain. Everything else hung up on the front of the magazine.
So it went in for warranty service. When it came back, it still wouldn’t load the first round from a full magazine. And then it jammed on the third round of fmj. It hadn’t been jamming on fmj before. With hollow points it was a single shot. So Remington service made it worse.
Luckily the gun shop that I bought the gun from (and sent it for service) told me that if Remington service didn’t fix the gun, that they would Allow me to return the gun for a refund. I took the money and bought a Ruger lc9s. The Ruger has been perfect.

Incidentally, my original Model 51 .380 has never malfunctioned with FMJs.......and it's 90 years old!

Never tried HPs in it.:)

Ugly? Wagh! Pilgrim, that be one purdy gun! A really svelte and sexy contoured shootin’ iron. Nobody is making beautiful firearms anymore. Savor it like a fine single malt highland whisky in a Glen Cairn glass before a well lit fire.

Not at all like the blocky plastic brick pieces of junk that the Grand Theft Auto crowd swoons over.
