Here's a shining example of a rifle without many of the "scary" features of the AWB from '94-'04. Just insert a 10 round magazine and install an non-threaded barrel to be rid of that "evil" flash hider. It has a thumbhole stock, which is not telescopic or folding. It comes with a 17" barrel and the overall length is greater than 26".

Do you think the anti-gunners would allow such an animal? I think not.

My "sleeper" assault rifle is a Saiga Sporter carbine in the stock condition as it was imported into the U.S.

I suspect it is also fairly rare as most of them were converted to AK configuration.

Vepr should work assuming thumbhole stocks are allowed. Fightlite makes a traditional rifle style stock for ARs so even that could be non assault weapons. All transitional rifles like SKS and VZ 57.

I’m not making a convenient confiscation list, you shouldn’t either. Reporters and politicians are very aware of other styles of firearms. They don’t care and they have an agenda, one you further by titling the thread with assault weapon. Starting a thread to prove their bias only preaches to the choir.

No.

In fact the case can be made that the 30 Carbine round was actually the first "intermediate" cartridge to be widely adopted.

I don't actually think there's that many non assault-looking semi auto rifles out there. There's a couple, like the Mini and that Kel Tec 223. I guess that Ruger PC rifle looks pretty traditional too. But most centerfire semi-auto rifles are modeled after assault rifles, and nearly every assault rifle made in the last 60 years has had a pistol grip. That's not being an anti, that's just facts. So there's just not much demand for a non-scary looking rifle while the scary ones are 100% legal.

What would be interesting is seeing all the non-scary semi autos that would spring up if a no-feature AWB were to ever get passed. You'd have millions of Americans going "golly gee, Uncle Sam just took my ARs, is there anywhere I could buy a replacement?" Ruger, Smith et al wouldn't just sit on their hands with that kind of unmet demand. You'd have some brand new SKS and M1 carbine looking things out on the market in 6 months.

Lever and pump action rifles would make comebacks as well. Traditionally styled and non-traditionally styled.

Oh...don't kid yourself, the Anti's KNOW they screwed up on the first AWB and won't make that same mistake again. They are fully aware that ANY semi is just as lethal as any other despite it lacking the 'ugly' features they used to ban back in the '90's. If you dig into some of the recent proposals they include EVERY rifle made...pretty much. Their goal is TOTAL DISARMAMENT and any talk otherwise is just them being coy and trying to get what they think they can without alienating so many people that they'll end up with nothing. If they thought they could get away with the Whole Enchilada....they'd do it. So now the 'poster child' for hate is the AR-15....but they WILL be coming for your Mini just as soon as they can.

The problem is that once they realize, they'll call for a ban on those too.

Winchester had a really good semi-auto 308 decades ago. I think the model # was 100. They had a lever action that was basically the same gun with a lever instead a gas system I remember that one, it was the Model 88

And my Model 100 Winchester. It was my first big game rifle, and my folks bought it for me in 1964 when I was 14 years old. Mine's a .308 Winchester, but dad had a Model 100, .308, and a .243 a little later on.
I can't remember hearing the term "assault rifle" back in those days. But it seems to me, the anti-rights jerks started making noise not long after JFK was shot. Which is rather ironic I guess, because Oswald had a 6.5 Carcano, very similar to the one my mom used for deer hunting. And I don't remember anyone saying my mom's Carcano was an "assault rifle." Nevertheless, the noise the anti-rights jerks was making increased in volume after Bobby Kennedy was shot, and GCA '68 was the result. I remember that.

Oh yeah. Kind of like how 1911s and single action revolvers became popular during the hi-cap ban.

If they ban "scary looking" semi-autos then many will transition to the non-scary variety.

If they ban lever/pump rifles many will transition to bolts & single-shots.

If they ban all of them, then.....

.....guess what, machine guns will become popular. Why? Because once they have banned what are now legal firearms there will be no reason to limit yourself. "In for a penny, in for a pound." If you are going to go to jail for having a weapon it really doesn't matter what you are yourself with.

This is 100 percent true. I’ve talked to several who want all guns banned and confiscated. And they’re working hard to get their wish.

We have to stop believing we can believe anything they say short if this and and we can’t give an inch.

Maybe I’m overly suspicious but it’s awfully odd that we were getting momentum, then all of these shootings occurred. It just seems too coincidental.
