Well, is Justin not exactly the sort of person we should be reaching out to when he says the 2nd Amendment is outdated and irrelevant? He seems like a thoughtful person with an open mind. I'm sure he has friends who likewise could be receptive to reason and he probably has a social media presence with the ability to reach more. The people we should be reaching out to -- inner-city residents who want guns to protect themselves from the thugs in their midst -- probably don't even know about the 2nd Amendment, much less have an opinion about it.. Even the entire Constitution is not very relevant to them. They live their lives on a much more basic level. (What Oprah says is more to them than the Constitution.)
We can debate the meaning of the 2nd Amendment among ourselves, but such legalities are not persuasive to the fence-sitters.
I agree, inner city dwellers have much more immediate concerns than the Constitution, though they certainly make use of the 1st Amendment frequently and vocally. But I hardly consider a large number of them to be fence sitters, they are firmly entrenched on the other side of the gun control debate thanks to the realities of their situation and the voices of their community leaders. Until the root causes of urban decay are addressed, I don't know if any amount of effort will lead this voting demographic to pull the lever for RKBA candidates.
Let us speak to anyone who will listen, with clarity and reason, and let them choose for themselves- but deaf words fall on closed ears and shuttered minds.
