It's not very long ago that NYC Bronx EMT Yadira Arroyo was run over by her own ambulance as partner Monique Williams struggled to stop the neighborhood crack head Hose Gonzalez from running her over.
In NYC District Attorney Vance has taken it upon himself to redefine knife laws, guns are out the question as they mean serious trouble for the carriers in NYC although considering what happened to Yadira it may have been the lesser evil but still very bad since she was the mother of 5 kids. The fact that our EMS agency has banned pepper spray doesn't help either.
Granted that letting their guard down gave Gonzalez the opportunity to hijack the ambulance are there any in vehicle fighting techniques that could be used when fighting a hijacker from a passenger seat or when outside the Ambulance.
In these days of terrorism these unarmed most probably untrained in combat arts individuals did everything they could to stop him at a great cost.
As these things go unfortunately, the police arrived on time to ID her almost lifeless body and the city still might not be safe as I understand this guy may actually not stand trial due to an insanity plea and may be released (who knows maybe sooner than later) to hurt and kill again.
I see bad times ahead as we are forced to contend with predators like Jose Gonzalez unprotected by the law and forbidden to use the necessary force to save our own lives and the lives of others.
We need tactics at the very least. Are there any sources for this.
