Hello,

As many of you know, YouTube has pretty much abandoned its gun enthusiast members.

I got to looking around, and found TheGunTube.com .

TheGunTube.com was created specifically with us in mind. Anyone can make an account and post, or just view.

I don't see any trackers on the website. This should appeal to those of us who do not like advertising; YouTube is terrible for data mining.

My TheGunTube.com account is at https://theguntube.com/view_channel.php?user=Smith-Sights . I've begun uploading my Mosin-Nagant tech videos.

I should probably note that I have no financial stake in the place, and this is a public service announcement only. I feel that TheGunTube.com is a site worth of consideration; it's something that's been needed for a while now.

Regards,

Josh

I'll have to check that site out. Good to read that a couple sites are looking to displace youtube. I never thought pornhub was a good alternative. Unless it was solely gun porn. :D

Hooktube is another one.

I am done with YouTube

This is a perfect example of a company cutting its own throat. Opening an opportunity for another site to capture a huge segment of videos

I hope they fade away eventually. Same as Facebook

If there's too many video hosting sites they'll all just end up fading away. A different one will never be as popular as Youtube, but if there was just one you might get enough traffic to attract some good advertisers, and that's what's going to keep a new video hosting site alive.

Ideally, it should be open to everything, not just firearm related stuff. As much as I'd love to stop using Youtube it's just too valuable a resource. I learned to mud drywall and hang a drop ceiling over the winter using it. I've used it for work to learn some stuff for Excel and Adobe Illustrator. My infant loves the Baby Einstein series and my toddler can be entertained for hours watching kids music video's about stupid stuff like eating your veggies or potty training or just random nursery rhymes. Somebody needs to find a way to capture all of that stuff to be truly successful. Don't think it can't be done, I remember when Myspace was huge and Facebook was practically nothing. Heck, I remember when if you REALLY wanted to find something online you use Webcrawler, or maybe AskJeeves. Then some weird sounding search engine named Google showed up....

I see it as competiveness. The good ones will survive. Youtube got to big for itself.

The only thing constant is change.

YouTube isn’t “The Platform”; it’s a business that makes its revenue selling advertising (and using viewer data to do that). Same with Facebook.

The internet is the platform. Some other businesses will rise - and hopefully find a business model to make a profit without censorship.

Just remember: if it’s free to you, then you’re the product.

And, despite the Chicken Little crowing about, there are few actual changes on YT.
Demolition Ranch is still there; Forgotten Weapons and InRange are still there (if doing other things to protect revenue streams); MAC and Hickok45 are still up and running. (The latter being the really amazing one.)
Kind of funny that Matt Carriker '08 only had one of his original videos yanked, and that was several years ago.

On MACs channel, look up video '' State of the 2nd: AWB of 2018, YouTube Gun Channel Ban, Online Cultural War'' @11:00 minute mark. In that vid he states how many 1000s of monitors YTube has hired, and who :scrutiny:hired from. It's a big change, I do not think YTube ''responded favorably'' to pro-2A enthusiasts complaints and just... left it all alone.

I'd be perfectly happy to be wrong!

Link no longer works. I wouldn't be surprised if YouTube demanded they change their name since one can easily argue "guntube" is an obvious knockoff of "youtube", especially if it's a video hosting site. Don't know if that may be why the link doesn't work, assuming YouTube did, in fact, ask they change their name.

Does anyone have a list of which channels HAVE been cancelled?

I don't know if it's necessarily channels being deleted as it is particular videos within a channel being deleted or requested to be deleted. I think it's the videos showing how to "modify" a firearm that concerns youtube, and not so much videos showing a firearm shooting at targets.
