S&W 9mm ve

I bought one way back when. As others have said, it’s a very functional gun. I got it as my brother recommended it as he has an SD9. At the time I also didn’t see the value of the M&P over the SD9VE.

As I’ve learned more I’ve learned they’re decent guns that people either love or hate. And many of the hate is based on its Sigma predecessors. I also find it humorous in a dark way that they also have a reputation of being more accurate than the early M&Ps.

I like the inexpensive price. I also like it’s a S&W. I don’t like the trigger. The take down pins are annoying, and I don’t like that mags are more expensive than M&P ones. Fit and finish is ok. But compared to my XDs and M&P it’s clear they’re cheaper guns. I also don’t like the smooth grip.

If I was doing it over again, I wouldn’t feel bad getting one. Nor do I have a problem recommending one, depending on what someone is looking for.

Today I got two Smith & Wesson from one shooting, a SW40VE and a DS40VE . I thought I would post some side by side photos of the two.
They updated the frame giving it a better feel.

The inside of the slides are pretty much the same other then the cut where the extractor is. SD40VE on the bottom.

They gave the slide a better, slimer profile and beefed up the extractor. SD40 0n the bottom

There was very little change to the rear sight , but they went to a dove tailed front sight

They didn't change the trigger that I can tell, but they did make some changes to the striker sear. The SD has a much better trigger then the SW model.

Is that rust on the internals on the right frame?

I had the opportunity to shoot a friends Saturday. It shot everything we fed it. He thought it was rather inaccurate, but once I tried it he thought it was decent. :) I thought it was decent. No issues keeping a decent group at 10 yards. Plenty good enough for home protection. He started having an issue with slide locking open on last round. Once call to S&W and they confirmed there were come bad mags and are sending him two to replace th two and one for his time :)
Based on my limited use and experience it seemed to work and decently for what it is, basic protection.

That’ll usually get the cops involved. And will get you in a lot of trouble unless there’s a real good self defense reason.
I think the shooting was drug related. The bad guys really like the SW’s and SD’s, both in 40 and 9. It’s reliable, similar to the Glock and under $350.

Drug related shooting?
Who woulda thunk?

I’d think reliable is important when you’re in that world. But then again, when they’re strung out, they don’t think.
