I bought one way back when. As others have said, it’s a very functional gun. I got it as my brother recommended it as he has an SD9. At the time I also didn’t see the value of the M&P over the SD9VE.
As I’ve learned more I’ve learned they’re decent guns that people either love or hate. And many of the hate is based on its Sigma predecessors. I also find it humorous in a dark way that they also have a reputation of being more accurate than the early M&Ps.
I like the inexpensive price. I also like it’s a S&W. I don’t like the trigger. The take down pins are annoying, and I don’t like that mags are more expensive than M&P ones. Fit and finish is ok. But compared to my XDs and M&P it’s clear they’re cheaper guns. I also don’t like the smooth grip.
If I was doing it over again, I wouldn’t feel bad getting one. Nor do I have a problem recommending one, depending on what someone is looking for.

I thought it was decent. No issues keeping a decent group at 10 yards. Plenty good enough for home protection. He started having an issue with slide locking open on last round. Once call to S&W and they confirmed there were come bad mags and are sending him two to replace th two and one for his time
