Cheapest NEW 22 combo ever?

While waiting for my AR12 I've been a little antsy having not purchased anything this year yet. While at Walmart today I spotted the elusive (at least around here) Savage 62. I said to myself why not, could be a fun plinker to tinker with. Keeping with the dirt cheap theme I grabbed a $25 3-9x32 scope off the shelf and away I went.

Got home, unboxed, mounted "glass" and proceeded to shoot. Overall impression is it seems to be a functional fairly accurate rifle. But my GOSH it's the worst trigger hands down on any gun I've ever shot period. It's extremely difficult to shoot it to it's potential because of that. It basically feels like a dead trigger until you hit this wall of china, which takes hulk like strength to break through.

But it will shoot if you "do your part". I'll be researching modifying the trigger and would take any advice with open arms.

It's no tack driver but it's not bad overall. Could definitely be a squirrel snatcher at 50yds and in. For a price tag of $99 I'm not disappointed. Like I said it's functional and should be fun to play around with. I put 100rds of Federal value box through it with no problems.


I was unable to keep a full 10rds in the black at 50yds, with that trigger there were always a few fliers. Below are a few pictures and the best/last 10 shots of the afternoon.

I should clarify I'm used to nicer triggers. If you've ever shot a gen1 Axis, and they have notably bad triggers, it's worse than that. I don't think there's anything wrong with it so I won't be contacting Savage about the crappy trigger on a hundred dollar gun.

On the bright side, I just found Mcarbo makes a trigger spring kit for these guns. That's what I used on my Axis along with some polishing so that will be the plan with this gun.

There's an albino running around that looks like a small cat.

The outside of the 9 ring is pretty accurate as to the body of typical greys around here.

I had one for a few hours. Got it in trade, couldn't get it to feed right and just felt funky. After a box of 50 I was ready to pass it along in trade, and did so very quickly for a hi point cf380. If you rip it apart and sort out the action I would love to see pics.

Surprised with those saying they had functioning issues. I don't doubt you guys, but that was the one thing that was 100 percent on mine.

And that was with the cheapest ammo I have.

Just a small update....I have a bit of Crow to eat.

Went to my buddies range today and was going to let him shoot it. Right off the bat he shot two shotgun shells one after the other at his 50yd set up. Then all of the sudden he couldn't even hit the 8x11 plates. Realized the scope was loose and I don't know how long they were like that. Tighten and re-zeroed and a few mags later same thing.

Ended up lock tighting the screws and she's now holding zero and consistently smacking golf balls at 50yds. Even hit a couple at 100.

BUT the trigger still sucks so I'll still be installing the Mcarbo kit once it gets here, which should make it more pleasurable to shoot.

Anyhow my fault folks. It does seem to be darn accurate little 50yd shooter and still no malfunctions after now about 400rds.
