New SKS project.

its funny, that pictures actually pretty close to how i see iron sights. I can see the little black blobs that are the targets, but thats about it.
I can't shoot peeps to save my life. I agree on the blobs.
I try to find a round target that matches the size front sight at the distance I am shooting.
Black on white or orange on white targets are also easier for me than orange on black.

As an insurance policy, you might want to purchase an SKS trigger group while a few NOS are still available. There is a guy, Kivaari, on the SKS boards which I used to frequent that does trigger work on SKS trigger groups and apparently excels at doing so if you ever needed to use his work.

You are getting great results from that RL-7 which I have never used when I reloaded for the SKS.

Be safe now from that volcanoe. Hope it isn't affecting your air quality too much.

Good suggestion boom boom, I probably will, I like having spares of stuff. I'm also probably going to buy Murray's fcg parts and firing pin at some point.
Im almost out of rl-7, when I'm done with the I'm going to try cfe black, ive actually got quite a few powders that will work in the x39. But I'm happy with rl-7 so far, so if nothing else beats it (and is cheaper) I'll go buy a bunch.

And thanks, the volcanos leaving us pretty well alone. It's gonna suck if the wind changes, but shouldn't be a serious issue.

That's a good idea! i bought those black shoot and sees because the contrast on white made it seem like they would be easier to work with. Me, being me, I didn't take into account the front sights black. Ill try orange next time, that sounds way easier.

My wife visited Pompeii and since then has had a healthy fear of volcanoes.

I've had good luck with H-4198 on accuracy using hornady soft tips with a bit less accuracy using Accurate 1680. I do have the Murray Firing Pin installed because I wanted to use standard rifle primers rather than the harder mil type. Worked fine with no slamfires.

You know i was wondering if everything was okay with you seeing how the volcanos erupted but it looks like it is. :)

They are over dramatizing the "Eruption!!!" A bit. We don't have tv, so I haven't seen any of the broadcasts, but what I've read makes it seem more dramatic for those not actively involved than it is. There were warnings for a few days before lava broke ground, and it's about where they suggested it would likely pop up.

To be clear tho thr residents of lower Leilani estates and below are in a bad spot right now, and I in no way want to make it seem like it's not a big deal, and my best wishes go to everyone involved, and who had to evacuate, mostly due to the gasses being released.

For those of us not directly involved tho, we aren't being affected too much.

And again thanks for the compliments and suggestions on the rifle, and the concern guys. It's appreciated.

I have to ask and I hope this isn't rude. No tv? No tv by choice or no signal in Hawaii? Just curious as I have no clue about Hawaii.

Lol, no worries. Back when I played alot of fps online one of the most common questions I got, WHILE PLAYING, was "do you have electricity".
To which I usually replied "untill the gerbil gets tired"

No tv is by choice. The kids like Netflix, and my wife and I will usually watch a movie or play videogames. Rarely do I ever want tv, besides for local news.

Down towards the bottom of hpp tho there's no cable, and hispeed internet (which we would die without) isn't readily available.
Oh and no county water in most of the park....it's kinda like civilized boonies.

I cut the cable cord myself a few months ago and use an attic antenna. We still have internet, as the internet is like having oxygen these days. :D

I’m in the same boat. I stopped watching tv two months after Obama was first elected. I got tired of seeing on my tv.
Now it’s Netflix, Xbox one and DVD movies.
I hope that volcano doesn’t delay the mail.

Oh, I gotcha now! I meant like no television/electronics whatsoever cause maybe you guys don't get channels. I know some of my families remote properties you cant get dish, cable or antenna cause its just so remote and antenna you do get is all news.

I don't do normal TV as I do Netflix a lot or DVD too much drama on normal TV or reruns. I know some people in remote areas have to use a hot spot to get internet.

Yeah I don't miss network tv
Mail should be fine, post office is well out of danger zone.
I'm glad we have decent internet at where we live, it's up near the top of the park, otherwise half of the dumb and poorly informed things I do would be even more so. I've had to deal with just having a hot spot and that was rough.

Lol, somebody asked me once if I can drive in the winter or do I have to take snowmobiles and dog sleds everywhere, and they were dead serious.

I get ABC on the antenna and Netflix on the smart TV. When I’m in the ice fish house I have about 50 dvd’s and if there is cell reception on the lake I can watch Netflix too. Technology is amazing, you can hook up a TV to a phone and watch movies on a frozen lake on the Canadian border, who could have envisioned that?

No TV for me either. This is why I shoot a lot. I feel TV and other things are designed to make us docile, unmotivated people. Glad you are safe.

Yeah, I'm stoked on it. I thought the 5 rounder promag was ok, but this ones perfect. I still need to go tinker with it a bit, after talking to Gunny, I think I might have got it in a little crooked as rounds coming from the right hang up a little, not bad enough to stop the bolt cycling tho.

That thing is almost perfect.

I like the timbersmith stock more than any stock I've felt on an sks so far. They aren't horribly expensive, and it's a non permanent change.

I'm still (and probably always will be) waffling on mounting a scope on this thing, I like the way it handles without, but I shoot scoped rifles alot better....

I saw an SKS at a gunshow that had the rear sandwiched together by 2 small plates and the top cover drilled and tapped. It used Allen head screws counter sunk into the plates.
This is a mod that I will be doing when I get time.

Overall very well done. If you’re like me you’ll spend too much time to get it to shoot well when it’s essentially a semi auto 3030...

That being said I bought sks-m today and looks like I have another project. It has the paratrooper barrel and shoots ok but it’ll get tech sights etc

OP, do you plan on bedding the stock?

HB

Thanks HB

This won't be the first time I've spent more time and energy on something than is probably warranted....it's kinda what I do for fun:D

The techsights are a solid choice. I've never used them for the sks, but I have on a few other guns I've gotten to play with, and they have been very good.

The reciever is bedded to the stock with Marine tex. There are a few places along the sides where the gap was larger than I thought, and I didn't put enough epoxy.
To get the action to hinge up out of the stock now it takes some force.

And thanks again for the compliments guys
