Not for mowing the yard, bicycling, jogging, for those a pocket gun (Kahr PM9) has to suffice.
I need something for when I'm running errands, shopping, church, going in & out of air conditioned buildings dressed in summer attire.
Something that fits my hand, is easy to shoot, in a caliber that offers ASAP incapacitation potential.
That describes the pistol I've been carrying; I'll keep carrying a full size pistol, plus a pocket gun. :D

You are a smart man.

Stats clearly show violent crime rates increase during the summer months. During a long heat wave and tempers get short. Add booze and drugs and most rational thinking goes out the window.

So during the time period when violent crime is must likely to happen many gun owners choose to downgrade their level of personal protection.

I like my Ruger LCR in the pocket of my cargo shorts the best. I am about to go run errands and it will be there with me. An LCP can be carried pretty much however you're dressed.

Not exactly pocket, but I'm going with my Walther PPS M2. Really liking this gun.

Warmer weather months I like to go with something lightweight and easy to conceal. That could be either my S&W Model 638 or my Kahr CM9.

I am fixing to walk out the door going shopping. Temperature is 70 with the high today of 91 very muggy degrees.

Gun I will packing? Beretta 92FS in Milt Sparks EX IWB holster with spare magazine on belt. No covering garment. I guess you can call it semi-open carry as grips and rear frame are showing.

Nice thing about Open Carry is I do not have to reduce my level of personal protection especially doing the months when violent crime is most likely to happen.

I carry my 380 S&W Body Guard. It has a side clip installed so I can carry it tucked in appendix carry without a holster. The heavy trigger and solid safety are reassuring. It disappears even in most summer clothing that way. 3C

Nothing says incapacitation like a big ole .45 ACP bullet. For that reason a Shield .45 suits your purpose and will disappear under your untucked shirt. Works great with IWB holster. Recoil isn’t the problem that many think, I find that I shoot the .45 Shield better than my 9mm Shield.

Same gun for all seasons, an LCP in a kydex pocket holster. Besides being small and light, more plastic equals less metal to rust.

I wasn't aware of any handgun rounds that provide "ASAP incapacitation potential". :)

But my summer and winter conceal carry guns are the same. Either an SP101 or a 442, both loaded with .38 +p.

While the "bigger bullet is better" thing is highly debated...

I REALLY like my .45 Shield. The flush fitting mag is just long enough for me to get all my fingers on the grip, and I got it before the gen 2 9mm came out, and I really liked the more aggressive sandpapery grip. I also really liked that the flush fitting mag was just long enough to get that last finger on (this is what really killed the 9mm version for me, just a hair too short).

And no, it doesn't kick as much as it should. The Shield is a VERY good design. Based on my very subjective and not very scientific tests... I think it kicks less than any compact 1911 I've shot!

Because of this... I shoot it very well, and will be carrying it all summer! I'd probably rather carry my higher capacity arms (evidenced by their usage during colder months), but I feel very well armed with my Shield.

A simplistic comparison: most people would agree that 45 HST has better (quicker/ASAP) incapacitation potential than 380 FMJ.

I see an impact difference on gallon jugs of water, with 4 layer denim, between a 9mm bullet with about 300-400# KE and a 10mm bullet with over 600#
I have seen what a bullet with over 600# KE does to tissue, holes from 1 1/4'' to .95'' made by a bullet that only expands to about .65

A quarter is .95 the exit hole on heart (in pic ^ linked) is bigger than a quarter.

IMO some handgun rounds have better (quicker) incapacitation potential.

My summer & winter carry guns are the same too, point of thread. ;)

That's why I stay off of these .380 or bust threads. I really have no faith in .380 but that's just my opinion. I don't care what other folks do, I look at data, gel tests, etc and I, myself, see a difference in performance vs. say a 9mm that I'm just not willing to trade off.

Oh yes, I know, if it's .380 or nothing ...., better the gun you have ..., but these are false choices. I've managed to carry .45 ACP for a long while, then moved through .357 Sig to .40 S&W and recently added 9mm to the list. If I need to pocket carry a 9mm I can do that with my p290RS ... this would be a jacket pocket (hopefully soon a p365 ... sigh) but that's not my normal carry method. I generally IWB or OWB as I can.

and ... gotta add the gun porn (bonus, this m11A1 is sweat proof as is the holster):

During summer months, my attire is either roomy shorts, or Dockers, with a polo shirt, or an oversized camp shirt on top. For either, I carry a Ruger LC9 Pro in a DeSantis Superfly pocket holster. The LC9 is larger than a typical pocket .380, but I'm willing to make the accommodations to carry a gun chambered in 9mm Para. I did have to do a bit of shopping to find shorts with pockets large enough to accommodate the gun and holster but when I found some, I bought several pairs.

For some reason this year I seem too have gravitated to a Kel-Tec P-11 9m/m with 12 round Magazines. Up until this year it was an ultra compact 1911 Springfield .45 acp.

I used to own a P-11 and it was a jam-o-matic. Not only that it SUCKED to shoot. I bought an M&P Shield 9 and it is leaps and bounds better and doesn't cost a whole lot more.

Yes the do tend to thump a bit hard in the hand but with the addition of a wide trigger shoe and the finger extension on the magazines it handles well enough. Haven't had any jamming problems either, maybe I got lucky and got a good one.

LC9 for me in the summer, as it easier to carry than my 44 special, which is with me through the winter months.
