I was going to order pillars from V3 precision for my axis rifle and new laminate stock but I cant get him to reply to emails so I was wondering what other options I have? I searched Brownells and found some for various Remington rifles but nothing for Savage. I seen a youtube video on pillar bedding an axis rifle and he said use steel bushings from a hardware store and gave an ID and OD but im not sure this is the proper thing to do.

Anything will work, but...... I don't like the bushings as they are rolled to shape, not solid, nor consistent diameter, and smooth on the OD. Any generic action pillars will work as long as they have workable ID and OD for the screws and the stock. They don't have to be Savage specific. Pillars with deep ridges work better than smooth or slightly roughened outer surface. I prefer to cut the top of the pillar to match the receiver profile as close as possible if they don't come that way. Makes for a better, more stable, longer lasting job.

Pick up some 1/8" pipe that is sold for lamp repair at the hardware store. The ID works well for action screws and the threads on the OD make for a secure bite on the bedding compound.

This is what I've done the last couple times. I have to say it's cheap and functional, but not ideal.
They are also not solid, or at least every one I've used has had a seam.
BUT, so do the pillars on every factory stock I've looked at and those seem to hold up pretty well.

The video would seem to answer some questions?

Before pillars, i just used Brownells Acraglas kit. Drilled out the front action screw hole , and let it run down to the magazine floor plated . Tang screw i did different.

Of course, if your a first timer, try not to glue the action into the stock.

I was going to purchase his kit but i seen on his facebook page they had tooling issues and were not running. I sent him an email and got no response if they were running or not so i figured go with another maker.
