What to do with a bag of foam

I had a mountain of that stuff. Didn't know what to do with it so I blew it up with some tannerite. Looked really neat.

And the best part was I could just pick up the pieces and blow them up again.:D

I hear you there! I go like the Energizer Bunny and then crash and burn hard when I finally stop. One time years ago a car drove into the building I was renting an apt in, into the rental below and to the side of me and I did not awaken until the wrecker was pulling it out of there. No light sleeping for me. Dog and alarm or I might miss a break in these days.:uhoh:

I know what I did with a couple of SUVs full of foam. I made about forty children's seats for my library, insulated my server room, re-partitioned several Ryobi boxes to hold some of my larger pistols and their accessories, and used what was left to buffer the noise coming through the wall from some of our larger air conditioner compressors.
The foam came in 3 foot by three foot by 10 inch chunks, with rows of cut-outs on one side. I get the stuff for free from a company that recycles the waste from several large maquiladoras near Reynosa, Tamaulipas, Mexico. I think that they were for shipping car radios and other delicate electronics. Add a little carpet adhesive, some agricultural cloth, some contrastingly colored foam slabs, and a bit of imagination and the sky's the limit.

Sometimes I sits and thinks and sometime I just sits.

How do you switch off your brain at bed time?

Sometimes a focused concerted effort to meditate to calmness works. Sometimes it's a glass of Jameson.:)

I love free foam knee pads, that are also disposable. No one likes to kneel in motor oil when they are placing concrete.

For rigid foams (EPS and the like), the gold standard for cutting is Ni-chrome wire heated with a mild electrical current. One advantage of this being the wire can be bent to precision shapes , if repeatability is wanted.

For the "soft" foams, a razor sharp edge seems to be best, although very fine serrations can work.

I have a personal bias towards the softer foams for firearms stuff. I have found that you can get the style Pelican uses in bulk at wholesale rates.

But, those are my biases.

Nice repurposing project Gunny. It's definitely better to see that stuff being reused than just pilling up in a landfill.

Cut a bunch of it up in small pieces, stuff them in a cotton sack and sell them as pillows. I hear a guy did that and made a bazillion dollars. He has convinced everyone in this Country to buy his pillows.

That guy from Minnesota ground up the foam and stuffed it into a pillow case. Made a million bucks on that idea!
:)

Yes, he did but I got my money back from him. Sorriest d--- pillow I ever tried to sleep on. :cuss:

I just hauled four big bags of memory foam to the dump last week. Since it's memory foam I keep watching for it to come back home. If it does I may try Gunny's idea. ;)

Dalai Gunny,

I followed your wise teachings and paid a visit to a local Academy Store. They had three of the Ammo Can Inserts on clearance.

Notice I said "had." They now reside in the mancave waiting on acquiring three ammo cans and ammo can lock kits.

The Gun Santa is very happy. He is sending a email to the Big Guy at the North Pole giving you double points for being good.

On the way home from Academy, I stopped at Walmart and grabbed to ammo cans for $9.77 each.

Ah Master,

My excuse for going to the Spring and Fall Gun Show is to buy surplus ammo cans. I usually buy one 30 and one 50 caliber and worry about finding something to put in them later. (Like you I really like ammo cans so finding stuff to put in them is never a problem). My usual gun show vender charges $9.00 for 30's and $10.00 for 50's and I usually have no problems picking ones that are in excellent condition. However at the Spring Show he only had a few 50's and they were beat to heck. Even his stock of 30's were pretty sorry condition. I rarely visit Wally World so I am not sure what the closest one has.

My plan is to make three child proof gun storage containers. They also great for bug-out, trips and transporting to the shooting range. I figure they are the perfect Christmas gift.
