6-13-18 Deerfield BLOCKED!

It was pretty much a given that the courts were going to strike down this ordinance since the state preempted localities from engaging in further firearms legislation.

I can't believe this. How would deerfield know what someone has anyway??
The FOID card, required in Illinois, keeps track of all you firearms activities. When first instituted, they claimed it would be kept confidential but it was soon forwarded to the state police for their records and now is part of your personal file. Big gov't at work.

This statute (and similar laws elsewhere...) wouldn't need to be aggressively enforced... but... Come into contact with local authorities in a firearms involved incident, even if you were otherwise on the right side of the law - with something like this in place the local authorities would be obligated to act... Thank heavens it's been blocked for now.

And so it goes...

This sort of stuff is much more about politics and posturing than anything else - but honest citizens who own firearms, as usual, would be on the receiving end. You can almost point to the places in this country that would try this sort of stuff. They're the ones with a single dominant political party - thankfully not in power currently... They're also the places where things aren't in good shape at all.
Let's see... Chicago, Los Angeles, you get the idea...

The FOID, while required for purchase or possession, is used as the background check number. Actual type, brand, serials are not referenced or tracked. Yes, big gov knows you bought something but not what it was.
