That’s awesome to hear op keep up the good fight on the varmints and you will see even more of them!

I don't mow the entire property and am thinking about leaving 15 to 20 ft of fence row like my grandpa did in Illinois. I have to cut hay to feed the horses and pay for farm investments.
Oh yea, i didnt mean any disrespect. Believe me, we do it too.
I had a pair in my yard today. That's not a good sign. We have had 8 inches of rain and their nesting ground down by the creek was totally flooded.

You might look into planting crops that attract quail and afford them food and cover
I need to look into that.
I did plant millet along the treeline and let it go to seed last year. I was hoping for dove but only saw ones in my yard. I must be getting soft because now I find excuses to watch them instead of eating them.

Pile a bunch of brush in an area near some water and cover, quail love brush piles, makes for a secure home. We had about 100 quail a year ago in our back lot near our brush pile.

Tons of quail on my property. Unfortunately I live in a city that doesn't allow you to shoot birds on your property. Wish I could. Got squirrels and big deer, too.

I started a war on Coyotes and feral cats when I bought my property.
I think it is paying off. I see rabbits all the time and saw my first quail this evening when I was mowing hay.
I think I will leave a bigger strip on the fence line for them.

In Texas we can call Texas Parks and Wildlife and they will send out a wildlife biologist to help you develop a quail program. I bet Oklahoma has something similar.

Glad to hear about the quail. Growing up in California nothing gave me more joy than going for a walk and seeing huge coveys of quail. Sadly where I would hunt quail they were always few and far between.

40 years ago when I was first married (has it been that long?), we lived in Southern NM. I had permission to hunt the section of land adjoining us where the owner had about 4 head of cattle. That square mile was just loaded with quail. I also had a covey living under the skirting of our mobile home, but they were safe from my hunting.

Where there is mesquite with fairly large branches growing from near the ground, cut the branches halfway through so they sag to the ground. They stay alive, and quail can put nests with some safety via the thorns.
Good idea. I'm not far enough West for mesquite. All I have are Hackberry, Mulberry, and Cottonwood.
