The best handgun stopping power!

There is a lot to be said for living in a rural area in a county where you can't get elected dogcatcher unless you're a Republican. Unless a criminal is incredibly stupid even by criminal standards, he knows everyone in my area has a house full of guns plus a carry permit. That has to be a deterrent.

We have stand your ground, the castle doctrine, and conservative juries here.

If my memory serves me, I think the NRA states that there are several million incidents per year where just the appearance of a pistol deters a crime, and of course, hardly any of these are reported.

Maybe we need to start a "me too" movement to get people involved in the these lawful positive outcome events to come forward and negate the negative narratives being told about firearms use.

We can wish more of these incidents get publicized but two things are against it: one, people don't want to be publicized as having to use a gun at all, it promotes an identity as a victim who overreacts and social media will inflame his notoriety. The second is the media will do the same - and has - writing up most police shootings as brutal exercises in racial profiling to churn discontent.

The media is NOT our friend any more.

Do NOT rely on them even trying to tell the truth of the situation.

The latest shooting by police in Chicago is an example, rioting in the streets was the goal of the early reports, then video of the gun bearing perpetrator carrying an extra magazine surfaced after all the damage was done. It was deliberately exploited.

The media is not only complicit with fomenting these situations, they also participate in a systematic dispensation of news based on a single editorial source who publishes guidance thru a Securedrop post at 4am. Which results in the daily headlines and stories being repeated across the press, often using the same wording.

Did you know the US Government is acting under color of law by deliberately manufacturing propaganda to be inserted into our news? It was passed and approved during the last Administration. Uncle Sam may legally lie to you.

Lets not hope we get the news to become a source of truth concerning the appropriate use of firearms any time in the near future. It's not going to happen when 6 corporations own the networks and major newspapers, and one investor of foreign birth holds the majority of shares in each. The Press is not our friend and under the current situation - which has existed for decades - should be treated as the enemy.

This all came to light two years ago when the financial backers of certain candidates were reviewed by citizens who dug a little deeper into documents. It's all open source. But don't even expect the news to report it. Why would they paint themselves as purveyors of propaganda and lies?

When you control the news you also control not reporting your own sins.

Actually you want to quote Professor Gary Kleck on that, do NOT cite the NRA for any statistics, actual or estimated. First off the NRA itself does little in the arena of such studies themselves. Their forte is promulgation of actual studies by entities like the DOJ, criminal research institutions, and medical agencies that refute most anti-gunner publications and rhetoric. Secondly, your audience may become closed-minded at the mere mention of NRA as a source of data. Just a suggestion.

It's called "Guns Save Lives" #GunsSaveLives

There is a website by that name and they used to publish regular newsletters about defensive handgun use. I looked them up again just now and they seem to have gone off and are doing something else.

But, Here is a great post:

https://drgo.us/guns-save-lives-and-money/

Also, NRA, GOA and others regularly publish such stories

Unfortunately this is mostly preaching to the choir. The trick is to get the information out to people who aren't particularly interested in guns as a hobby but are concerned about crime.

Actually, I want to report exactly what I said!!!! My comments were because of what Moderator Odd Job said in the 2nd response to this post that "I wish these incidents were more widely published". As far as I know the NRA is the only entity that I know about that does publish them routinely. I don't care where the NRA gets their info from, whether it be DOJ, CDC or whoever as I trust where it's coming from. By the way my audience is THR's and they should be well aware of what the NRA is doing. If we have THR members who aren't NRA member then they are doing themselves and the shooting fraternity a dis-service. IMHO

Milt1,
I am with you sir. My suggestion relates to audiences that are NOT pro 2nd amendment. Pretty safe to assume most of here are of a like mind on such topics. I did give kudos to NRA for "putting it out there." I'm simply saying citing the original source(s) to folks outside of this arena might make it easier for many of them to accept. Peace.

A lot less of one than you think.

I don't think so. Criminals say they avoid occupied homes where they expect those inside to be armed. I'm sure they don't mind showing up when people are out, though, to steal the firearms.

It's very nice to live in a place where I'm armed, my neighbors are armed, the castle doctrine and stand your ground doctrines are in force, I'm allowed to have a 3000-round magazine if I can find one, a liberal judge can't get elected, no witnesses can see what happens on my property and lie about me, and the cops are extremely biased in favor of self-defense. It's not perfect, but it beats living in a place like Chicago or DC, where the presumption is that a dead criminal is a murder victim and a nice boy.
