thinking of downsizing

i have about 18 guns and was thinking about downsizing to only one deer rifle a 22 for small game a 12ga shotgun. and maybe a target/varmint gun i have a ar15 to fill this. then there are the guns that i cant sell. they are my Siamese mauser in 45/70 made by navy arms and reworked by my dad it was given to me from him for are first hunt when i was 13 and i shot a trophy European boar. 2. is my 1909 arge mauser by j.w.van patten in 7x57ai has a great story. 3 my rossi 62 pump with the octagon bbl my first 22. 4 and maybe my ruger 77 in 7x57 gun just shoots so good and fits very good its a 1974 i believe.

2 unfinished type 99s
a custom 1891 arge with a j.p sauer bbl 8x57
a mauser finished in Germany in 1914 for local hunter in 8x57 with set triggers
a mauser for hunters in Germany i 1944 both these 2 have the makers name under the bbls
savage 111 in 300rum very magna ported crf small shank can be made it to almost anything
Remington 33 22 lr first months production 1931
a marlin 336 30-30 with ballerd bore drilled and taped 50s gun was a barn gun and was camo painted shoots very very good with lyman peep
a marlin 336 35 rem 1977 year was a barn gun to also camo shoots very good to with williams peep
a marlin 1894 44 mag with xs peep sights think its a late 90s or early 2000s gun shoots very good
a 10/22 ruger with green mountain 18 inch ss bbl hoage stock with hi end parts in it very good shooter
a verona 12ga auto shotgun
a Remington 700 ss with bell and carlson metalist m40 stock a bbl of a mili spec Remington 24 inch ss 5r bbl with swfa ss 10 scope mark 4 base Leopold rings 308 win sub 1/2 moa
and a underhammer bp shot gun can get a rifle bbl for it
think thats all them had more but sold to help out with my dad . what u guys think i should do keep them or sell any only have some but be nicer. im in ny state so that makes it harder to
 
If you really don't want them anymore AND don't think you'll ever want them back, then I'd sell them now. If you think they may go up in value, you may want to hold them longer. Some of them sound pretty well used and may actually go down in value. None of them sound like they will be on any ban list for at least another 50yrs.

they shoot good but i dont use them much only the 2 marlins in 30-30 and 35 are not pretty but in good working order
 
If you have a younger family member who really likes guns, you are more fortunate than some of us.

The bug never bit my son, and one day fairly soon his wife wants to move the family of four very far away to northern CA near San Jose, where she grew up (I despise the area), and all of her relatives live.

my sisters kids are the only young ones around here and show no interest in firearms or anything outdoors just there face glued to the tablets all day. i gave my best friend a savage axis about 5 years ago he likes it. wish there were more people around here to get in to guns but with all the fake crap these way left teachers are telling the kids now. they are thinking guns are evil. for hunting the ever shrinking land to hunt makes it very hard to get kids and older people in to hunting. i lost the 2 farms i hunted my hole live just this year very good hunting most years a 8 pointer or better and good fishing on both bout 350 acres between them both.

I think you should PM me with prices you want for them.

Kidding aside, if you don’t want them, you don’t want them. I look at them a lot like my stamp collection. The “work” was acquiring them and that’s a lot of their value to me, much like many tools I have.

I could likely get more for them now if I sold them than others will get after I die but I think that might be more detrimental to my health that the hit they will take after I’m dead.

This and maybe the Remington Model 33 and the Marlin Model 1894. The rest I would try to sell either on consignment or else online at a local gun shop.

18 guns is not even a good accumulation yet.

At least wait until November 7th. If the Democrats win the House there is going to be a Danic.

My main issue with trading and selling guns is usually six months after I do it I find a need for it and wish I had it back.

I am a firm believer is "3 is 2, 2 is 1, and 1 is none" so I want a least two AR's in the same caliber. I also have a weapons system attitude about guns, especially semi-autos, For example since you have a AR my system has 11 magazines (1 in the gun and 10 spare in a 50 caliber ammo can), 600 rounds of ammunition so I can load the mags twice with 1,000 rounds per gun preferred, slings, optics such as Red Dot, Scope and "iron" sights.

I love ammo cans. 30 caliber cans hold 420 to 600 rounds of .223 depending on how you arrange them. 50 caliber cans will hold 10 30 round mags with space left over for extra ammo or accessories. I especially like 20 round mags as I can easily put 10+ mags and a lot of extra ammo or other items in it. So if I was looking to sell or trade it would be for the reason of adding more ammunition and what I consider to be essential shooting accessories.

(And buying before November 7th is a very good idea).

They don't make 'em like that anymore. Personally I'd keep them, except maybe I'd sell the .300 rum.

If they don't tickle your fancy, you can use them as trade fodder.

i sold about 85 guns last year 40 or more were nib and the others were 95% or better. my dad broke his neck and some other things at work. they tried saying it did not happen there when he was working. i got pis from when it the thing fliped over it was a backhoe. not even my dads fault the pin in the petal broke witch made it go full bore backwards in to a ditch. good the va did the work on him but with all the bills i sold most of my guns to help him.

i have some friend they my wont the 2 marlins the 44 mag is like new. and the rem 33 is only going to bring 50 bucks around here

However, I keep finding reasons to "rationalize" keeping the ones I'd consider selling, except for a few that wouldn't bring me much, anyway.

I agree with others that this is not a good time to, uh, unload extra guns.. (see what I did there?) :D

lol thanks for the post. i dont know why i have the need for a higher end gun. maybe i have to go to a big gun shop and just look around all day to help get this out of my head.
 
I have downsized a couple of times. But then, I look at the space in my cabinet, and the niches that are no longer filled, and I go shopping.
 
Problem I see with a lot of guns is that the potential market is shrinking, not expanding. Fewer and fewer guys want wood and blued guns. For example, Browning A5’s and Winchester Model 12’s bring less now than they did 20-30 years ago..

I’ve gotten to the point that I’ve sold off about 1/2 to 2/3rds of what I had. I’m 67 and really don’t have anyone to leave them to.
