Walther PPS Classic

I’ve had my PPS M2 for over two years and about 5K rounds and I can certainly chime in about it’s quality, accuracy, and reliability.

S&W might have been the importer, and the Gun itself made in Germany.

I'm no expert on Walthers, but would like to be someday.

My first Walter was a PPS.

Wasn't too fond of the paddle release, but waited until they made the
PPS M2 , then sold the PPS.

If you like the paddles, then the PPS should serve you very well.



I would pay $400 for it or less, depends on how many mags, holsters.

You can buy a new PPS classic, or a PPS M2 for a lower price right now.

Unlike with CZs Glocks, M&P and others, I've never had a jam with my Walthers.

I first had an M2 and now have a Classic. I much prefer the classic. The accuracy is as good as anything in its class, it is boringly reliable with a range of ammo that I've fired through it to include 115 FMJ range fodder, 115 +P Barnes JHP, 115 and 124 Sig V-Crown, 124 HST, 115 and 124 Gold Dots and 124 Hornady SXT. I carry the gun when I'm wearing something that requires a smaller, slimmer profile than my P99 or P30SK. It's a great little gun and I really prefer the paddle release to the push button of the M2 for the sake of consistency among my carry guns.

The takedown procedure is odd, funky, poorly designed and not likable. Other than that the gun is well made and reliable. $300 sounds like a good and reasonable price these days. Good place to start a Walther collection.

The PPS takes down in exactly the same manner as a Glock, PPQ, or P99. You must be thinking the CCP with the goofy takedown system that requires a frequently lost proprietary tool.

$350. S&W made slides for some of those early Walthers. I would not pay more for that than second-hand G26. There is nothing classic about a gun with plastic frame loaded with pile of stamped parts. In this game new model is usually preferred.

The PPS had a removable back strap that decocked the striker when you removed it, making it unnecessary to pull the trigger. It also acted as a “safety” feature since the gun was inoperable without the backstrap.

Easy solution: leave the backstrap in place and field strip the pistol as you would a Glock.

Go for it OP... There are plenty of polymer handguns in the single stack sea. I wish Walther would have stuck with the paddle release with the M2. True Walther fans, guys and women with smaller hands, and lefties preferred the paddle. Guys/gals who carry other Walthers preferred the same manual of arms. It's just more ergonomic IMHO... The anti paddle guys had a plethora of other options to choose from....

I own a fairly substantial stable of high-end and moderately priced well-made firearms. After struggling for years with what to carry, my rotation has always consisted of the flavor-of-the month AND the PPS Classic. I nearly always chose the PPS...it conceals like a mouse-gun, yet shoots like a full-size. I no longer rotate. The PPS goes in my waistband every morning. I carry it in a TT Gunleather IWB Slim, but it was just fine in my Crossbreed too. I have a standing post on Armslist as a WTB and currently have 4 including my carry gun. Buy it!

S&W made slides for their own pistol, the SW99, and used the German made P99 frame from Walther. S&W was the importer for Walther for years and had their name on the slide of Walther pistols that came out if the ULM plant in germany as the importer but S&W did not manufacture any slides for Walther pistols.

The Walther PPS 9MM original is a terrific pistol and my main CCW pistol. As others have mentioned it is easy to conceal and shoots very well for its size. The PPS has a metal sub frame that the serial number shows through the poly frame. There are very substantial steel frame rails inside the PPS and that steel sub frame accounts for it being a bit heavy compared to the competition but also makes for one extremely accurate, easy to control pistol, and robust pistol.

I was referring to having to remove the backstrap, which is the only takedown method described in the manual. However I have to confess that, even after owning the gun for over four years, I didn't know the gun came apart without removing the grip part. You made me look, and just now I did remove the slide "Glock style", and it worked just fine. I learned something today. Thanks

I don't have a CCP but I do have a PK380 that requires the goofy tool. What were they thinking?

The new models have more comfortable more ergnomic grip. One finds many of these old ones in .40 probably because of excessive felt recoil. In this case new model is clearly preferable to the original.

I prefer the original model for a couple of reasons. I like the paddle magazine release better as it is similar to my PPQ and HKs and I use the large back strap that fits me better and gives me better control and accuracy. I personally never give a second thought to how "comfortable" a pistol is holding it. Shooting live fire is the determination for me. There have been more than a few reports of problems with barrel peening with the new M2 PPS due to changes implemented in it and not sure if that has all been resolved or not though I have not been reading much about it lately. Since I have larger hands most will probably prefer the M2 PPS with the button magazine release but the original PPS still has a strong following.

I have the PPS M1. It has been one of my "grail" guns for years since I always had trouble finding it. And when I did find one it was either a) too expensive or b) didn't have the money on hand to get. A few years ago I was doing well enough financially. I found one used at a local gun store. $319 out the door with one magazine. I jumped all over it and it is one of my main carry weapons. The other is the P99 big brother in .40.

I like the M1 better because it has a rail, in case I want to put something there. I prefer paddle releases. And the grip was better. I tried holding onto the M2 and I really wanted to like it. The grip just felt too awkward in my hand with the overpronounced bump into my thumb joint.

I've also got a PPS-9 M1 that I've owned and carried for about 6 years. I've also shot it in a couple IDPA BUG matches.

I've never had an issue with mine and it seems to shoot "bigger than it is"... I'm also a huge fan of the paddle mag release as I carry either Walther's or HKs. It's truly the only mag release I can hit without having to change my grip in the slightest.

Love mine. It is my edc. Flat, easy to conceal. I love it, it really shoots like a full size. When the m2 was announced, I rushed to pick up the classic version. Love the paddle mag release. I very accurate. Get it. I carry mine in a stealth gear iwb.

I’m now the new owner of a PPS. It looks just like new. It is 2012 production date so slide is stamped Smith & Wesson, Walther started their own import company in 2013. I got it for under $300 OTD. I will shoot it in a couple of weeks and post pics and review. I like the way it feels, and the paddle release doesn’t bother me at all. It is slightly larger than G43 but just as thin if not thinner. I think it will carry easy, I just need to find a holster. I’ve heard good things about crossbreed IWB. Congratulations, where in Kentucky do you live? I live in Western Kentucky in Paducah. Love my PPS m-1

I picked up a new PPS M2 LE at Sportsman's Warehouse a month ago for $299. I have been looking for a gun this size for quite a while. I also have a Walther Creed and really like it. Both guns perform very well. The trigger on the Creed is better but I only have 150 rounds through the PPS and it will improve with use. For a smaller gun the PPS performs very well. Enjoy your new gun .

Keep an eye on the rear sights. I have seen lots of posts on the Walther forums and on Facebook that the filler likes to fall out under recoil.
