I'd say pass. With a cheap can, you're going to give up performance in at least one of these categories: Effectiveness, weight, durability. Based on what I know of the SOS ("Screw On Stack") cans, with which I admittedly have no personal experience, they're not great performers in terms of dB reduction. And aluminum is never gonna be a great choice for centerfire rifle cans, save for ultralight hunting cans that don't see rates of fire beyond sighting in.

If you can bump the budget a bit, there are far, far better options. Lots of good .30 cans in the $500-$600 range, especially if you use promos, coupons or other discounts.

If you're looking for a 5.56mm can, the BAT Po' Boy is $200 and performs well by most accounts. Just heavy.

I think they're extremely optimistic in their figures for a very simple 4 baffle suppressor. The only reason it does much at all is that it's huge. 10" length is significant, cumbersome. I did one prototype that long, and it's impressively quiet (much more going on in mine than this thing, but I digress). I have pursued shorter units ever since. For a rifle you're actually going to use afield, I would suggest a 7" or 8" can at most. It was exactly this cumbersome nature of large cans that drove me to develop a unique reflex model that is 9" overall, but only adds 6-3/4" to the barrel.

Might be worth playing with if we didn't have the NFA hurdles, but not even considering the wait time, you have to figure it's not really a $300 can vs. $550 can; it's $500 vs. $750.

One thing I always feel compelled to bring up in these low priced suppressor threads is that once you buy a can, it's basically yours for life. There's no real resale market, it's really a buy once cry once proposition. I would not want to hand Uncle Sugar $200 and wait 6-12 months only to wind up with a bargain barrel suppressor that's too loud, too long, too heavy, or won't last. It's worth waiting a bit longer to save up a little more scratch.

Luckily the suppressor market has come a long way in the last few years, reputable companies are offering good cans for reasonable prices, and retailers are often running sales.

I see the YHM on sale for $370 right now, and the Griffin on sale for $440. Both are made from 17-4, and the YHM even has an Inconel blast baffle. In addition to being made of much better materials, both are also shorter, and the YHM meters very well (haven't seen any meter data for the Griffin, but read somewhere that it uses the same baffle stack as the Recce 7).

As MachIVshooter mentioned above, the total cost of the can you posted is $500, the total costs of the three I mentioned are $570, $640, and $799. Really not a huge bump in costs to move upscale a little bit. (Add in $60 - $75 transfer fee for all of them if you are ordering from somewhere other than your local dealer).

Scoping out those sites should give you a good idea of what options are out there, and what kind is deals you can find. Also, a certain AR-15 oriented forum has a subforum on suppressors with a few good deal threads that are worth keeping an eye on.
