Looking to add something odd and eclectic in the above caliber. Purpose would be casual plinking. Wondering what is out there that isn't too collectable to shoot? Would be interested in a lever, single shot, slide action or possibly a revolver carbine. Just a fun range toy, no need to handle full power loads, just powder puff cast bullet loads. I might consider some of the older BP rounds such as .32-20 or .38-40 or .22 hornet as well.
 
My vote would be a Ruger Number 1. Not odd, but definitely not run-of-the-mill. I'd love to have one myself.

Get on Henry's web site and tell them you want a new Single Shot Rifle in .357 magnum. If enough of us do so, perhaps they will give in!

How about a Marlin Model 62 Levermatic in .30 Carbine?

Plus.....now you have no excuse not to grab an M1 Carb. or a .30 Blackhawk.;)

Fixed it. I got my 2nd 62 last year, and I’m still looking to add more guns to the pile of ammo eaters. I now have one of each on the 62s. The .256 is a much more fun round but ammo is nearly impossible unless you reload, and reloading isn’t easy since necking down cracks a lot of brass. With a .30 cal intermediate sizing die, I’m still losing about 30% during forming.
 
My brother and I took a shot out model 92 38-40 rifle and had it rebarrelled to .357. This was when you could get a 92 for $50 and modifying one wasn't a mortal sin. Shoots great. Wish I could have found the Rifleman lever in bro's stuff when he died. It has a conventional lever now. I shoot it every year on his birthday.
 
if you are open to the 32-20,the browning model 53 is a super nice rifle. its a miroku copy of the Winchester 53 with the pistol grip and curved lever along with the button mag tube. very pretty rifle.

its a rare rifle to find tho. I never shot mine with cast but with the little Hornady 80 and 100 grn hollow point pills,it was very accurate. with warm loads absolutely devastating on varmints.

I sold mine years ago for twice what I gave for it. very dumb idea. wish I had it back.
 
Never been a fan of the "mare's leg" platform. Not really a pistol, not really a rifle. I have .357 revolvers, and a .357 contender is a possibility, would come in handy for silhouette. The marlin .30 carbine is definitely on my radar now though. Didn't know those existed before now. This may all be out the window as I found a Rem pump in .300 Savage if I can get Cabelas to love it a little less than I do. Otherwise the Lightning or a Handi Rifle in .357 are probably at the top of my list for now.
 
The Handi Rifles aren't easy to find in .357. Ask me how I know! ;)

Well shoot, son! If .300 Savage is on the table, might as well consider the greatest lever rifle ever made- the Savage Model 99:

....also available in .22 Hi-power, .250-3000, .303 Savage, .348 Win., .243, .30-30, .308 and (rarely) a whole bunch of other bizarre calibers. You can get 'em with rotary or clip magazines, round or octagonal barrels, takedown versions, and a host of different sighting and wood variations too!:thumbup:

Thompson Center in .357 Maximum. Higher velocity than .357 Mag, but can shoot .357/.38 too.
 
I wish Taurus would make an eight-shot .357 magnum version of the Circuit Judge, with the ability to take moon-clips. I've sent a message to them suggesting it.

I have a late '20s M99 already, that's why another rifle in that caliber intrigues me, as does the Rem 81 in .300. Found the Rem slide action after I made this post, and it kind of caught my attention, especially with the vintage post and cross (enfield sniper pattern) reticle scope in serviceable condition.

And expensive and difficult to find. Midland Arms is making single shot shotguns in 12, 20, and .410 and soon will be coming out with .357 Mag barrels that drop in to the frame like the Thompson Centers do.

The only difference is the shotguns are $140 and the barrels will probably cost half what T/C wants for them. Obviously not as good a barrel, but within 100 yards I doubt the difference will be very noticeable. Maybe a 1 inch bigger group.
 
I have a few .357 rifles and like them all. I really like my H&R Trapper. It is simple and fun to shoot. We like to sit around the campfire and take turns plinking at targets with it. Everyone loves it. I really hope that Midland comes out with a Backpacker in .357. I would get on for sure.

If they made that in a 16"-20" half octagon half round barrel for under $600 i would own one. Even at $1300 it looks pretty good.
