Washington Post thinks that they can ban sharp objects

This stood out to me when I read the article:


Guns are by far the leading cause of homicides in the nation.

But knives are No. 2, according to the FBI, making up 11 percent of killings...

That is not a simple matter of careless writing. It is integral to anti-gun (and knife) talking points that the weapon causes the crime. Framing matters that way gives something to demonize and to ban. It is a simple and visceral argument that is persuasive despite, or perhaps because of, its gross oversimplification.

Other than that, I found the article an interesting rundown on Knife Rights and what they are doing.
 
Ugh. UK keeps calling for chef's knives to be blunted. Which will make filleting fish or paring vegetables a bit iffy.
Even some calls to blunt the ends of scalpels and xacto blades (if mostly "for show" at this point).

Too true. Note the angst where a mother is all distraught that her son was killed with a (then) illegal knife. The knife and the murder were both illegal. The murder remains illegal, even if the "bowie" became legal to carry the next September First.
 
From the article:

Aside from the fact that TX law never defined the term "bowie knife", what the article's author apparently fails to fully comprehend is that the knife was illegal at the time of the attack and yet the attack happened anyway. Bizarre, isn't it--it's almost as if criminals ignore laws... :confused:

So what is the mother mentioned in the article fighting for? The reinstatement of a law that didn't prevent the tragedy that took her son? How does that make any sense?
 
Speaking of Chicago, it is well known among Chicago police officers that many crimes are committed using screwdrivers and many stabbings are carried out using screw drivers. Screw drivers are cheap, effective and completely legal to possess. The charge is usually Aggravated Assault or Armed Robbery with "Other Dangerous Weapon / Cutting Instrument"
 
Since our specie first climbed down out of the trees - we've been more than able to find some kind of tool to defend ourselves (or murder our brothers...). There's a town down at the south end of Dade county (sorry, these days it's called Miami Dade country...) where the typical weapon of choice for a homicide... is a rock or bottle... I'm sure that there are other similar communities in every country where folks are living "close to the bone" and the weapons used aren't much different.

Our real problem is law makers who are pretty much clueless (bet you can find them almost anywhere in the "civilized" world - in primitive places the old rules still apply....).
 
I believe that the category of homicide by knives, includes any object used as a stabbing instrument whether sharp or not. Screwdrivers, mentioned above, go in the knife category as would cutting someone with a broken beer bottle or other glass.
 
The lawmakers push remind me a bit of the movie Demolition Man with the Verbal Morality Statute. This stems from people believing that the tools are the problem.o_O
