I just ordered a S&w model 10 from buds. A French police trade in for $269.00 Has anyone seen one of these? I'm hoping for a carried much, fired rarely example.

I just looked but couldn't find them. Just be sold out already.

Bud's still got them.

I bought one, ended up looking like this. Haven't shot it yet so can't speak for that, but it came into a pretty similar condition to what Bud's advertised.

Mosin Bubba,
What is the dash number on yours? It looks like it has a heavy barrel.
Thanks

Mine from another source was a canadian trade-in 10-11, carried a lot and shot a lot. It was functional but needed to have the cylinder stop replaced, though it could have been shot for a while with the old one. Thankfully it actually dropped right in. MIM parts can make things easier sometimes. When yours arrives it could be anywhere from new-in-box to kept in a toolbox to be used as a hammer.

They are worth a try but never get your hopes up. I expect them to be functional and that is about all you can ask for.......

That is not a bad looking revolver, especially for the price.

I agree, those grips have to go but I'm betting they will be very comfortable when shooting.

Mosin Bubba, what kind of a grip is on that revolver?

Some kind of French rubber grip that's not made any more is what I've heard. I don't know the details.

I'm a bit of a newbie with revolvers and don't know all the makes and models of Smith revolvers. It is definitely a heavy barrel.

Haven't shot it yet, but just holding it, the grips feel pretty darn good. They're keepers.

The Police in France have guns? I thought they just blew whistles at people......

Sadly, the influx of radicalized anti-western folks have made them much more openly armed than you would think. Gendarmes and soldiers are regularly posted 4-deep openly slinging rifles and sub guns at most public events and tourist-target zones.

Looks like they figured it out but way too late.....

Great old revolver! I have two Model 10's. One is a "pre Model 10" that was probably a service weapon at one time. It's over 100 years old and still goes bang every time. The other is a police turn-in from 1961 (IIRC) that I got earlier this year. It has a truly exceptional trigger and is more accurate than I am. I hope that the OP enjoys his new revolver for many years. :)

It became fashionable in some circles to bash the French because their government thought that George W's invasion of Iraq was a bad idea and said so. Yeah, they're sure looking like fools now.

France was one of (and often THE) premier military powers of Europe for hundreds of years. Many Frenchmen fought bravely in the Colonies to help the United States become a nation. Just because their General Staff was incompetent during WWII doesn't make all Frenchmen cowards. (No one else was having much luck against the Germans in those days, either.) Also, I read a lot of memoirs. DON'T commit crimes in France. Commit them in Sweden or something. The French judicial system is not lenient, and you DON'T want to be in one of their jails or prisons.

Sorry to go OT. As a former History teacher that sort of thing tends to annoy me.

The bashing of the French was not because of Iraq. It was primarily because of the Petain government at Vichy, allying itself with Hitler. And later, deGaulle throwing U.S. and British forces out of France in the sixties, after the extraordinary lengths both countries had gone to in saving his sorry***!

No one has forgotten the debt we owed to the French for their help in our war of independence. That does not, however, give them a free pass for later actions.

And BTW, you just might not be the only former history teacher on the board.:p

I was there in the spring just before 9/11. Driving through a toll plaza somewhere near Marseilles the Gendarmerie stopped every car... One officer in front, another behind, both armed with subguns. A simple passport check and general look over, but it was clear they were not messing around. Sorry about this off-topic post, just had to respond from the memory of it.

I love the looks of those grips. The wooden ones are small for me, so I usually use Pachmayrs. Those French ones look even heftier. I would probably buy a set if I saw them for sale.
