The new Glock model 45

Well I can tell you I like the black finish better than the flat dark earth.

Handled one today,not impressed
AND the gun I edc is a G-23 & G 43

So a change of color gets it a new number? There must be more to it than that. What else is going on?

Front bottom tab removed so standard Gen 5 mags fit, unlike the 19x. Front slide serrations. No plug/lanyard loop. 17 round mags.

That's about it. I stopped trying to make sense of Glock's naming convention a while back. But even so this is a stretch.

Got me all excited thinking there is unique Glock .45ACP coming along. I will say black is big improvement over baby poop color. I don't understand why military wants baby poop colored stuff as Russia has completely taken over initiative in the Middle East.

I believe someone within the Glock organization has gotten senile to have come up with that name.

I wish they'd put out one where they had a Glock 17 length slide with a G19 frame with front slide serrations and that instead of the front bottom tabs removed that they did it on the side (but where standard G19 mags could still be used) with Ameriglo sights and a longer frame to hide the underside of the slide.
Here's one that someone on ARF.com put together.



Easier to hide the slide than the butt of the pistol.

They should've just called this one a second gen 19X.

I agree. Keeping long pistol grip while shortening slide/barrel is a stupid idea.

People like the longer grip with the shorter barrel. For me, I just don't like the look or feel of it. However, I won't begrudge anyone their preferences.

I do like the longer barrel with a compact grip idea. It's actually how I have my P320 set up. 15 rounder in the gun, 17 and 21 mags as back up.

Still, a Glock 19 in whatever flavor or nomenclature isn't a bad gun to go with it.

Glock’s naming convention is pretty straightforward for the most part. They started with 17 (supposedly that was Gaston Glock’s 17th product) and counted up from there. Sometimes they decide to simply add letters to denote a special modification to an existing model (17L is a long slide 17, “C” denotes a compensated model, the 19X is a special edition 19, etc.) instead of making it a new number model.

The gun numbers occasionally are released out of order (the 41 and 42 came out before the 40), and I’m not sure if this is simply because of differences in development times or it’s done for other reasons. Maybe the reason they skipped number 44 is because that’s a gun currently under development that was conceived before the 45, but the 45 came out first since it didn’t really require much development; they simply mated a 17 and a 19.

It's like trying to conceal a S&W 686 with a 1.41 inch barrel and target grips.

May want to tell that to the Walther P99/PPQ, HK 30, VP9, SIG P320 carry, 227 carry, 220 Carry, 229, FN 509, Beretta APEX, XD 4", 1911 Commander, and probably a few more I missed.

The full grip 4" barrel is a very popular size for duty guns and works great for us folks with big hands who can conceal a full grip fine.

For what it's worth i shoot my 19X every bit as accurate as my 17, so sight radius doesnt affect me, as well as faster under the clock likely due to balance and a little faster out of the holster.

The 45 is pretty cool but I personally dislike the front serrations on Glocks (maybe if they were smaller?) and have grown to like the baby poop frame of my 19X, the burnt copper slide I always liked.

Does the 45 have the same finish as the rest of the Gen 5s I assume?

My comments were more in what I wish Glock released next rather than bagging on it as a pistol.

I'm sure there'll be lots of people who'll like it and buy it.

I think this pistol is the perfect dimension for a silencer host. Since I wouldn’t plan to conceal it, I’d prefer the longer grip of the 17, but the 19 upper allows the overall length to be slightly shorter, which is nice when you add a silencer.

Could be, also I had thought it might be a real nice size for a comp, a la the Wilson Comp Carry or the STI costa comp.

Not that you really need it for 9mm, but that was my first thought when the 19X was released.

Then again maybe that's why they skipped a number (Glock model 44 being a G17 slide on a G19 frame, unless that information has been released and I just haven't heard).

I'll leave you to it though.

Yeah. It makes sense, except when it doesn't.

And I'm sure it's just pure coincidence that the Glock 17 just HAPPENED to hold 17 rounds. Nope, not buying that one. They can make up any story they want. I'm in marketing. I can smell BS a mile away.

I figure Gaston had to scramble for a naming convention that made sense after his pistol became a hit. Easiest way is to follow S&W's example.

I would love to shoot one side by side with a G17.

Some folks like government model 1911’s. Some folks like commander model 1911’s.
