About theree years ago I picked this rifle up new in the box from a friend. He said he need cash for a new project and only wanted $150. I can’t seem to pass up a good deal so, I bought it. I really didn’t have any use for it at the time so it got stuck in the attic.
The other day I was up in the attic looking for something and saw the box up Marlin and got to thinking. I had just pulled the Bushnell 4-12 scope off the Savage Axis rifle I picked up, and it should fit the Marlin.
I got the rifle down today .

I dug out a box of old mounts and found a set that would work.

If the weather stays nice this weekend, I may take it out for a test run.

Nice set up.
I have the XT-22 TR, and it's a fantastic, reliable, accurate rifle.
I think the XT series as a whole, in .22LR, .22M & .17HMR, is a very underrated line, especially if you've got some well suited ammo.
For general plinking and critter control, they hold their own against CZs just fine.
(Competitions where those fractions of an inch make or break you, Ok, maybe go with a CZ or an Anschutz)
I think you'll have a lot of fun with your attic find.
 
Gunny You amaze me!!
You have more parts in your shop than many gunsmiths. That tray of scope rings and mounts is outstanding.
Please keep up these posts, I really enjoy your photos and other stuff!

Bill Nutria, you must, like me, also be amazed at the picture quality displayed by Gunny. Not only that, but my fun is exploring all the other junk and collectables in his shop and trying to identify some items. Right now I'm trying to identify the jar behind the gun with the letters "NEVR" readable. Probably just some Avon hand lotion for reloaders :) He sure has the world's most interesting stuff. Keep it up Gunny!

That’s an easy one. It’s a can of Never-Dull, a metal polish.

Almost bought one of those a couple of years back. Was looking for a "pretend" sniper bolt .22, and figured the WMR version would be cool.

Before I did, though, a nice 1985-vintage Marlin 25 popped up in the same store. I like wood over plastic in long guns, so I went that route. But I did like the look and feel of the XT I handled.
 
Gunny, you coulda' been a swabby like me. I polished more brass in 4 years than I care to admit. Good job!
Now I only have to tumble brass.
The Never Dull does a good job.

I use the Never-Dull to polish my badge and buttons on my uniform. I had the can out on the bench because, I had to get all nice and pretty on the 9th for an award in my class A uniform.

I still have a can or two of Brasso that I've had since boot camp back in 87', which was a staple in every PX and foot locker at the time
Amazing how that aroma can take you back in time.
They still sell it, but I've read they changed the formulas in the early 2000s so it'll be less likely to explode. Where's the fun in that??
 
Brasso and Nevr-Dull were regular staples at the fire department I was with back in the early eighties, too. Used them on the brass nozzles mounted to apparatus tailboards, the brass shields on our NY-style helmets, and a few other applications.
 
I have a stainless XT-22 and it sucks. Not accurate, the grooves have visible chatter marks, the plastic stock is the cheapest feeling stock I've ever felt. Compared to a Mossberg 702, I would have thought it was made in Brazil and the Mossberg made in the USA.

Ever since I got the Ruger Charger, I've been thinking about selling the Marlin. I have no use for a bolt action that with every ammo shoots 2 inches at 50 yards.

I hope yours is a good one, but it looks to be made around the same time as mine at the Mayfield factory, so I would be suspect of it. I love the idea of a tube fed bolt action, but if the results on paper don't meet my expectations, I lose interest and all the others issues I've heard of from others in regards to Marlin, I've lost interest in owning any newly made Marlin.

Yup, and I sent it back to them where they said they "lapped the bore" and there was no improvement and I'm not gonna bother sending this thing back and forth to a company multiple times, especially one whose reputation for poor QC going back 10 years has been well known.
 
Well if I bought a new gun and it wouldn’t shoot and factory service didn’t correct it, I wouldn’t have any trouble getting rid of it.
