I’m at it again.

Well back in 1986 I only had six firearms. That has taken a pretty big upswing over the years. Here are a few hints to what I have now. I’ve bought 15 to 20 guns a year for the last few years, and the word few is subjective.
A few years ago I decided to buy a gun a week or at lest 52 for the year, that was easy. The next year I had to out do myself and I bought something like 79 guns that year. Right now I have somewhere around 20 ARs.
But when it comes to the total amount of guns I have, I’m really not sure, but I would guess somewhere in the neighborhood of 400. But then I did build another AR this weekend and bought a rifle yesterday.

I couldn't do that. While I could probably afford it now, I couldn't keep track of them. Kinda like to know what I have, and as it is now, I can't remember how to field-strip them for cleaning. Also, the safe is full.

I find I can double the capacity of safe / locker by pointing some rifles up and some rifles down. Gun socks help protect the finishes.
Here's my old Stack On locker before I bought my Liberty.

This is the 22 safe. I can't get them all in there so, I have some 22s in other places.

I had to move the 22 safe and this was what was in it. That's not much, is it?

huh... why didn't I think of that (muzzle down.) I'm already a gun sock fan to help protect 'em when they invariably clink together. is there any additional protective measures I should consider when storing a rifle muzzle down? some kind of "boot" or "foot" that fits over the muzzle?

"I have a firm rule about how many guns or good books I need. If I have space to put another one, I don't have enough."

I limited my collection. I collect WWI infantry rifles. And period correct ammo for the display, of course. I collect .32 ACP - or 7.65mm Browning - semi-automatic pistols of the Art Deco period. And period correct ammo for the display, of course. And sporting rifles and ammo of the same era. And I have a full outfitting of modern arms for shooting as needed. And 'cop guns', mostly double action revolvers of the 20th Century. And 'transitional' guns, like the Lebel 1886, the M1892 (and such) Krags, the FN High Power and such.

Boy! It's a good thing I limited my collecting! I'd have a bunch of stuff.

I have envy in my heart. I've cleaned my benches, but it seems they are a center of gravity because any flat surface in my garage seems to attract what my wife calls junk; hers is stuff.

Stay well Gunny.....

Gunny, with your job, you oughta' get the department to finance your gun collection as an aid to your on the job training at home.
That would enable you to buy a new Mazaratti with the money saved. :)

Then I would have to give them a complete list of all my guns, which I don't even have.

A while back Total Recoil sent me an 81mm crate and I’ve used it to take pics on when the weather has been bad. But it needed to have a better purpose. Here is what I did with it.

My friend’s son, my helper, Noah came by today and helped with the project. And he approves. He said that it was cool and would like to have one in his room, but doesn’t think his mom would approve.

That looks really cool Gunny. Great use for an old ammo crate.

Also I find it hilarious that you have a 22 safe. Most people would have a 22 ammo crate, or maybe a shelf in a safe. Nope, you have an entire safe.

"How many safes do you own?" "Hmmm, how many cartridges are there?"

or

"How many safes do you own?" "Dunno. there could be one or two I've misplaced."

Glad the cancer war went in your favor. I just lost a lifelong friend a few months ago to brain cancer. He was a gun nut, and his reloading room looked a lot like your shop did at the beginning of the last thread.

Cancer is a bitch in every way.

I lost a good friend and coworker to brain cancer last year. He was also a gun nut. His desk was next to mine in the lad. He would read the HK gun forum every morning and laugh. When I would ask what he was laughing about, he would just say stupid people.
I’m also glad that things went in my favor with fighting cancer. I’m still fighting small battles with issues from the treatments, but I’m not giving up.
I have three gun safes, a Mauser crate and a Mosin closet and still need another safe. I like my 22 safe, because most people can’t say that they have one. The bad thing is, I can’t get all of them in there.
Noah is supposed to come over this weekend to help wipe down the guns in the 22 safe and inventory it. Last Sunday while he was here I pulled out a K98 that had a broken ejector spring. I showed him how to remove the bolt release and take it apart. Explained to how it worked. We replaced 5he spring and put the gun back together. I think that will be the rifle I end up giving him.
If I don’t get sidetracked, I’ll get some work done in the shop tomorrow. If you look at the last pic, you can see a rifle on my workbench that I took apart for pics in another post. I got it back together already and out of the way.

Well y'all are all welcome to come on over. :)

Are you sure??? So far I've "uncluttered" three storage buildings and two garages. Not to mention this house when we first moved in. (When my uncle died he had over 1000 textbooks here and I didn't even bother to count the novels and non-fiction. I won't even mention some of the other items... I still can't figure how a man that was nearly OCD on having his work areas, tools and equipment shipshape and squared away could have such a mess in his home and storage building(s.) My SIL and I could have your shop cleaned & organized in less than a week and Good Will and your local historical society would absolutely love you.

I think we caught the same bug Gunny. I spent most of today in my gun room. My 5 year old "helping me." I filled two 13 gallon trash bags of stuff to throw away.

Changed out the ammo in my P99 magazines.
Changed the batteries in my ammo lock box. 4xAA
Sharpened and cleaned my outgoing EDC knife Benchmade Pika II. Went to my Benchmade Adamas.
Cleaned a few rusty knives in my knife drawer. For some reason my 2 Balisong butterfly knives got some rust on the hinge.
Fixed my phone case.
Cleaned and oiled my leather holster. Going to start carrying a larger gun for a bit.
Moved around the rails on the M-lok of my built AR-15.

And then my wife comes in (a rariety) and says that I need a larger bookshelf with a built in liquor cabinet to replace my Walmart special bookshelf. What a great idea! Now I want one.

If you ever wanted to get fancy (ish), I can tell you that the inexpensive, thick, vinyl tile snap together flooring you can get at Home Depot, combined with the felt underlay from the same, does wonders for providing a nice, relatively durable surface to work on.

vinyl tiles, felt pad, concrete slab. got tired of replacing the carpet every time it flooded (4 times now. please, no more)

It seems like I’ll never get things perfect in my shop because I keep getting stuff like this in the front door.
Three gun related orders arrived today.

A few items from Delta Team Tactical
Three brass catchers for AR,s, a flat wire buffer spring, AR vice mag block, and a set of backup sights..

Target Sport had a sale on Fed M855. Who doesn’t need an extra can, one can never have enough ammo.:)

I needed some powder to load some 458 SOCOM and Brownell’s had free shipping the other day on orders over $150, so I added a few things. They also has 458 SOCOM brass on sale for $65 a hundred.

Are you advocating giving away or throwing out all my stuff? Your welcome to come over for coffee, but I don’t think I would want you to do any cleaning. But if you want to get rid of stuff, we could go down to the Bass Pro and throw some lead down range at their indoor range. I’ll supply the ammo and guns.

Felt pad...

So what happens when your basement floods again?

My basement has flooded twice and now we are going with painted concrete floors as they make some really nice paints nowdays.
I can replace the pad easily enough, and the floor comes up as it went down, in tiles.
The fact we've had as many instances as we had is amazing, considering I live on the top of a hill. We had...
* water come up through the perimeter french drain
* foundation burst due to improper construction 40 years ago
* sewer line back up and flood out from the basement sink
* whole house water filter housing exploded

the first two were because of major hurricanes (Irene, Sandy) and were partially caused by the fact the ******* who built this place did a crap job setting up the water drainage. the second happened because when they laid the foundation blocks, they cut one out for the sewer stack (which really didn't need to be done), and filled the void left with building materials and covered it with cement. A little over 30 years later that material had decomposed, leaving a void as big as an entire block that filled with water, with the inevitable result. The last two were just plain bad luck. I was getting tired of dealing with the carpeting anyways. :D

I'd have to count (and no, I'm not going to), but I think I've got him beat on the textbooks! Probably because I don't do novels. I much prefer to sit down with a decent textbook and read before bed than a horrid book where the author made up lies to feed you!

Those library discard sales/giveaways are killers when you live in limited space... Which means almost ALL of my textbooks are out of date...

Not all of it, just what isn't being used or likely to be in the future. Men get emotionally attached to possessions and sometimes need a woman's touch to truly organize their storage areas. I don't do indoor ranges but if you have an outdoor range with 100+ meters I'll bring Dad and his Springfield rifle. I get the feeling having you two together would be an interesting experience.

One of the textbooks kept was a volume from when Purdue University had a graduate course in Blacksmithing. 20% of the history texts were pre-WWII and about a 1/4 of those dated in the 1800's. One of the "lit" texts were a compilation of newspaper poems by a Jay Whit that was autographed by the author with his real name- James Whitcomb Riley.
