Front cocking serrations, revisited -- be honest

Maybe...

I tend to ignore them. I have and have owned firearms with and without serrations on the front of the slide. If you asked me right this second if my 1911 has them, I would either have to look at a picture or pull it out of my safe to give you an answer.

I really don't care either way. Don't even notice them. I literally had to go to my safe and see which of my guns have them and which don't. Four of my 11 handguns have them. Including both 1911's.

I use them all the time.......to show my friends just how stupid a 1911 looks with front cocking serrations.

I owned this one for awhile. I got rid of it, but not because of the useless front serrations that were added.

Same for this one, it wasn't the front cuts that made me get rid of it.

I still own this one, it isn't going anywhere.

This is more the look I like. Slick up front.

Don't need them, never have used them, but they don't really bother me if they're on the slide or not.

I think they are awkward and problematic from a practical standpoint. In order to use them and see the chamber, you are darn close to flagging yourself and maybe someone else. I had a career in Special Operations, where I extensively used the 1911A1, the M9, the M11 (Sig 228), the MK23, and the Glock, along with a slew of other handguns like BHP, Makarov, etc. for training purposes. None of these pistols had those things, and I don't feel we were at a disadvantage for not having them.

I do not use the front cocking serrations on my semi-auto handguns.

They don't really bother me when they are there.

Like some other folks, I'd have to go look in my safe to see which has front serrations and which do not.

About 20 years ago, I built three M1911s. All three were built without front cocking serrations. Just to give an idea as to what I do when I have a choice.

How many of us carry a light on rails?
I carried them at work in the military and as a contractor, where I slept by day and worked at night. I also have a pistol set up with a light in my nightstand next to my bed, since when I am in the bed it is almost always dark. I also carry a pistol with a light mounted on it when I hunt wild hogs at night, which is very comforting to have when tracking a wounded boar in the dark in a Fl swamp. Pistols with lights mounted, riding in safariland holsters, are now commonplace on the belts of law enforcement professionals, even in my town of less than 8,000- and even among the FWC officers (who I actually see more often than the sheriff deputies). According to current news, there are over 163,000 people without power in my zip code after the category 4 hurricane that struck this area a week ago- I think in this situation, having access to a handgun with a light mounted would be considered a valuable tool for the armed professionals, homeowners, and other "mall ninjas" effected by this catastrophe.

I agree.
A weapon light is an undeniably useful tool.
I have them on my 9mm ccw/nightstand gun, and my ARs. I wont be taking them off either.
It is dark on both ends of my day here. Bad things happen in the dark. I like to see what im doing. I would mount a light on my pliers if they had a rail.

Don’t mind them, but prefer not to have them. I don’t use them, and for me it’s just another corner to catch crud. On pocket guns they are sometimes nice if you have big hands and grip the whole slide to cock it, but on duty sized guns they are wasted machining.

So, since on several boards the release of the Glock 45 precipitated debates in the viability of FCS, I began to wonder if, like the debate on grip length on the Glock 19X, we simply again are bagging on glock for adding a feature that has been present, not complained about, in many other models.

Since I dont particularly care about FCS I had to go look through my safe (and glance on the interweb) to see what actually had FCS.

Turns out, unsurprisingly, almost everybody not named Glock.

A quick look shows: some 1911, XD, M&P, CZ P07/P10c, APX, FNS, FNX, FN 509, Sig 320, Sig P220/229/226 Legion (possibly other models too), Hudson H9, PX4 Storm. In sure I could go on, but it seems like if you dont like FCS you are gonna be pretty darned limited in what you can even buy these days.

But somehow when Glock releases a model (admittedly, about the ugliest implimentation) it becomes a hot debate.

Fascinating to me.

My Remington stainless Enhanced Commander has them. I don't use them, and was looking to avoid them when I was shopping for this gun. The other contender at the time was the Ruger, which does not have them. The $100 rebate and the all-matched finish (no black on it) swung the pendulum in favor of the R1s. Now that I have it, I find the FCS pattern to be fairly tastefully-applied, and their presence doesn't bother me at all.
