What is your favorite rifle to hunt with?

My Abolt 2 in .375 Ruger.
Started life as a 7mm stalker, bout 8-9 years ago. 1700 rounds and a stock change later, its barrel was pretty well shot out.
I swapped the barrel for a .375, I always wanted. Its light, handy and it's fun to shoot.

I always look forward to getting a chance to hunt with it.

I don't know yet. Strange as it may sound, I just sold my "go to" hunting rifle that served me well for over 20 years: a Model Seven in .308. Maybe I'll regret it, but I don't think so. I replaced it with a semi-custom Remington 700 Ti in .260 Ackley. Newly scoped it weighs in at 6 lb 5 oz. I haven't hunted it yet, but since I don't have the .308 any more, it will be the one next time I get out. No idea when that will be, though; I haven't hunted since moving to Texas ...

While not always the one I take out with me as I try and rotate through the calibers a bit, I have to give the nod to my Marlin 336 in .30-30 during most deer seasons.

While my bolt actions in .243, .270, .308 and .30-06 have served me well, as a matter of personal choice, that lever action just feels the most natural in my hands.

Before my son "appropriated" it I had a Remington 788 carbine (18.5" barrel) in 7mm-08. LOVED that gun. Was as accurate as a varmint rifle and enough pop for deer and elk. Had weight to it so recoil was mild. Carried a Tasco 1 3/4-5 World Class scope. If it was under 300 yds it was dead. Ugly as hell but man what a shooter.

Great story too, you should be proud.

To the OP, I had planned to use my new tiika t3 lite ss 30-06 for hunting this year, and also take my cz527m in x39. But instead I am laid up in the hospital having emergency surgery and recovery this fall. So no hunting this year. But that tikka is nice...

I would say my browning bps upland special, which is the first gun I ever owned, but since this is the rifle forum,

My 444 marlin handi rifle. It is the cheapest rifle I’ve ever owned. I bought it used as a heavy barrel 223 from a gun shop in Minnetonka years ago while my wife was in grad school. 2 years ago I sold the 223 barrel and got the 444 marlin barrel and fitted it. I have always loved the H&R action. Wish there were more around in decent shape.

I’ve never owned a rifle with stainless receiver and barrel. Looks are fairly far down the list for me in terms of importance. I also like an oiled wood finish as opposed to something real glossy. That being said, over the past few years an oiled wood finish rifle in stainless has come to be my definition of the perfect looking rifle. Yours fits the bill 100%. To me it is a beautiful rifle that’s fun to just take out of the safe occasionally and admire.
